अतिप्रमाणा बलिनो दीप्तजिह्वा महाविषाः। निपीडितशिरोग्रीवा व्यवेष्टन्त महाहयः
Enormous, powerful serpents with blazing tongues and deadly venom, their heads and necks pressed down, writhed violently.
किंनरोरगगन्धर्वयक्षविद्याधरास्तथा। पीडितं तं नगवरं त्यक्त्वा गगनमास्थिताः
Kinnaras, serpents, gandharvas, yakṣas, and vidyādharas likewise abandoned that oppressed great mountain and took to the sky.
स च भूमिधरः श्रीमान् बलिना तेन पीडितः। सवृक्षशिखरोदग्रः प्रविवेश रसातलम्
That glorious mountain, pressed down by his strength, with its tall treetops, entered the netherworld.
दशयोजनविस्तारस्त्रिंशद्योजनमुच्छ्रितः। धरण्यां समतां यातः स बभूव धराधरः
Ten yojanas wide and thirty yojanas high, that mountain became level with the earth.
स लिलङ्घयिषुर्भीमं सलीलं लवणार्णवम्। कल्लोलास्फालवेलान्तमुत्पपात नभो हरिः
Wishing to leap gracefully over the dreadful salt ocean, the monkey sprang into the sky, reaching the edge of the surging waves.

आप्लुत्य च महावेगः पक्षवानिव पर्वतः। भुजङ्गयक्षगन्धर्वप्रबुद्धकमलोत्पलम्
Having leapt, the mighty one, swift as a winged mountain, passed over serpents, yakṣas, gandharvas, and blooming lotuses and water-lilies.
स चन्द्रकुमुदं रम्यं सार्ककारण्डवं शुभम्। तिष्यश्रवणकादम्बमभ्रशैवलशाद्वलम्
He beheld the lovely moon as a water-lily, the sun as a radiant waterfowl, the stars as kadamba flowers, and the clouds as green moss in the sky.
पुनर्वसुमहामीनं लोहिताङ्गमहाग्रहम्। ऐरावतमहाद्वीपं स्वातीहंसविलासितम्
He saw the constellation Punarvasu as great fish, Mars as a mighty crocodile, Airavata as a vast island, and the star Svati as a swan at play.
वातसंघातजालोर्मिचन्द्रांशुशिशिराम्बुमत्। हनूमानपरिश्रान्तः पुप्लुवे गगनार्णवम्
Exhausted, Hanuman crossed the ocean of the sky, whose waves were formed by masses of wind, whose waters were cooled by moonbeams.
ग्रसमान इवाकाशं ताराधिपमिवोल्लिखन्। हरन्निव सनक्षत्रं गगनं सार्कमण्डलम्
As if devouring the sky, as if scraping the moon, as if carrying away the starry heavens and the sun's orb, he soared.
अपारमपरिश्रान्तश्चाम्बुधिं समगाहत। हनूमान् मेघजालानि विकर्षन्निव गच्छति
Though weary, Hanuman entered the boundless ocean of clouds, moving as if dragging along the masses of clouds.
पाण्डुरारुणवर्णानि नीलमाञ्जिष्ठकानि च। हरितारुणवर्णानि महाभ्राणि चकाशिरे
Great clouds appeared, shining with pale, red, blue, and deep crimson hues, and with green and reddish colors.
प्रविशन्नभ्रजालानि निष्क्रमंश्च पुनः पुनः। प्रकाशश्चाप्रकाशश्च चन्द्रमा इव दृश्यते
Entering and emerging again and again from clusters of clouds, he appeared now bright, now obscured, like the moon.
विविधाभ्रघनापन्नगोचरो धवलाम्बरः। दृश्यादृश्यतनुर्वीरस्तथा चन्द्रायतेऽम्बरे
Moving among various dense clouds, his white form sometimes visible, sometimes hidden, the hero shone in the sky like the moon.
तार्क्ष््यायमाणो गगने स बभौ वायुनन्दनः। दारयन् मेघवृन्दानि निष्पतंश्च पुनः पुनः
Soaring through the heavens like Garuda, the son of the wind shone as he tore through masses of clouds, bursting forth again and again.
नदन् नादेन महता मेघस्वनमहास्वनः। प्रवरान् राक्षसान् हत्वा नाम विश्राव्य चात्मनः
Roaring with a mighty sound, like the thunder of great clouds, having slain the foremost rakshasas and proclaimed his own name,
आकुलां नगरीं कृत्वा व्यथयित्वा च रावणम्। अर्दयित्वा महावीरान् वैदेहीमभिवाद्य च
Having thrown the city into turmoil, having distressed Ravana, having struck down mighty heroes, and having saluted Vaidehi,
आजगाम महातेजाः पुनर्मध्येन सागरम्। पर्वतेन्द्रं सुनाभं च समुपस्पृश्य वीर्यवान्
The illustrious Hanuman returned again across the middle of the ocean, and, full of strength, touched the peak of the lord of mountains, Sunabha.
ज्यामुक्त इव नाराचो महावेगोऽभ्युपागमत्। स किंचिदारात् सम्प्राप्तः समालोक्य महागिरिम्
Like a swift arrow released from a bowstring, he approached with great speed, and, coming a little nearer, gazed upon the great mountain.
महेन्द्रं मेघसंकाशं ननाद स महाकपिः। स पूरयामास कपिर्दिशो दश समन्ततः
The great monkey roared as he beheld Mahendra, dark as a cloud, and his roar filled all ten directions.
नदन् नादेन महता मेघस्वनमहास्वनः। स तं देशमनुप्राप्तः सुहृद्दर्शनलालसः
Roaring with a mighty sound, like the thunder of great clouds, he reached that place, eager to see his friends.
ननाद सुमहानादं लाङ्गूलं चाप्यकम्पयत्। तस्य नानद्यमानस्य सुपर्णाचरिते पथि
He uttered a tremendous roar and shook his tail; as he roared along the path frequented by Garuda,
फलतीवास्य घोषेण गगनं सार्कमण्डलम्। ये तु तत्रोत्तरे कूले समुद्रस्य महाबलाः
By his roar, the sky with the sun's orb seemed to tremble; and those mighty ones who were on the northern shore of the ocean—
पूर्वं संविष्ठिताः शूरा वायुपुत्रदिदृक्षवः। महतो वायुनुन्नस्य तोयदस्येव निःस्वनम्। शुश्रुवुस्ते तदा घोषमूरुवेगं हनूमतः
The valiant ones who had previously settled there, desiring to see the son of the wind, heard Hanuman's thunderous, powerful roar, like the rumbling of a great cloud driven by the wind.
ते दीनमनसः सर्वे शुश्रुवुः काननौकसः। वानरेन्द्रस्य निर्घोषं पर्जन्यनिनदोपमम्
All those forest-dwelling monkeys, their hearts afflicted with sorrow, heard the mighty roar of the monkey king, resounding like the rumble of thunderclouds.
निशम्य नदतो नादं वानरास्ते समन्ततः। बभूवुरुत्सुकाः सर्वे सुहृद्दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः
Hearing that loud cry echoing all around, all the monkeys became eager, longing to see their dear friend.
जाम्बवान् स हरिश्रेष्ठः प्रीतिसंहृष्टमानसः। उपामन्त्र्य हरीन् सर्वानिदं वचनमब्रवीत्
Jāmbavān, the foremost of monkeys, his heart filled with joy and delight, addressed all the monkeys with these words:
सर्वथा कृतकार्योऽसौ हनूमान् नात्र संशयः। न ह्यस्याकृतकार्यस्य नाद एवंविधो भवेत्
Without doubt, Hanumān has accomplished his task; for such a sound would not arise from him if the task were not completed.
तस्य बाहूरुवेगं च निनादं च महात्मनः। निशम्य हरयो हृष्टाः समुत्पेतुर्यतस्ततः
Hearing the force of his arms and thighs, and the mighty roar of that great soul, the monkeys, delighted, leapt up from where they were.
