सोत्तरीयमिवाम्भोदैः शृङ्गान्तरविलम्बिभिः। बोध्यमानमिव प्रीत्या दिवाकरकरैः शुभैः
With clouds hanging between its peaks like upper garments, as if being awakened with joy by the sun's bright rays,
उन्मिषन्तमिवोद्धूतैर्लोचनैरिव धातुभिः। तोयौघनिःस्वनैर्मन्द्रैः प्राधीतमिव पर्वतम्
With minerals gleaming like eyes opening wide, as if the mountain were being roused with delight; with the deep sounds of rushing waters, as if the mountain were reciting sacred texts.
प्रगीतमिव विस्पष्टं नानाप्रस्रवणस्वनैः। देवदारुभिरुद्धूतैरूर्ध्वबाहुमिव स्थितम्
As if it were being clearly sung by the varied sounds of many streams; standing like one with arms raised, with deodar trees shaken by the wind.
प्रपातजलनिर्घोषैः प्राक्रुष्टमिव सर्वतः। वेपमानमिव श्यामैः कम्पमानैः शरद्वनैः
As if being loudly called on all sides by the roar of waterfalls; trembling as if shaken by the dark forests swaying in the autumn wind.
वेणुभिर्मारुतोद्धूतैः कूजन्तमिव कीचकैः। निःश्वसन्तमिवामर्षाद् घोरैराशीविषोत्तमैः
As if it were singing with the bamboo reeds stirred by the wind, as if sighing in anger with the dreadful hissing of the best venomous snakes.
नीहारकृतगम्भीरैर्ध्यायन्तमिव गह्वरैः। मेघपादनिभैः पादैः प्रक्रान्तमिव सर्वतः
With deep caves made profound by mist, as if lost in meditation; with its feet resembling the bases of clouds, as if advancing on all sides.
जृम्भमाणमिवाकाशे शिखरैरभ्रमालिभिः। कूटैश्च बहुधा कीर्णं शोभितं बहुकन्दरैः
As if yawning into the sky with its peaks wreathed in clouds; adorned with many cliffs and beautified by numerous caves.
सालतालैश्च कर्णैश्च वंशैश्च बहुभिर्वृतम्। लतावितानैर्विततैः पुष्पवद्भिरलंकृतम्
Covered with sāla, tāla, karṇa, and many bamboo trees; decorated with spreading canopies of vines laden with flowers.
नानामृगगणैः कीर्णं धातुनिष्यन्दभूषितम्। बहुप्रस्रवणोपेतं शिलासंचयसंकटम्
Filled with various groups of wild animals, adorned with streams of minerals, abounding in many springs, and crowded with clusters of rocks.
महर्षियक्षगन्धर्वकिंनरोरगसेवितम्। लतापादपसम्बाधं सिंहाधिष्ठितकन्दरम्
Frequented by great sages, yakṣas, gandharvas, kinnaras, and serpents, dense with creepers and trees, with caves inhabited by lions,
व्याघ्रादिभिः समाकीर्णं स्वादुमूलफलद्रुमम्। आरुरोहानिलसुतः पर्वतं प्लवगोत्तमः
Crowded with tigers and other beasts, filled with trees bearing sweet roots and fruits, the best of monkeys, son of the wind, ascended the mountain.
रामदर्शनशीघ्रेण प्रहर्षेणाभिचोदितः। तेन पादतलक्रान्ता रम्येषु गिरिसानुषु
Driven by intense joy at the prospect of seeing Rāma, he pressed his feet upon the lovely mountain slopes.
सघोषाः समशीर्यन्त शिलाश्चूर्णीकृतास्ततः। स तमारुह्य शैलेन्द्रं व्यवर्धत महाकपिः

ररास विविधैर्भूतैः प्राविशद् वसुधातलम्। कम्पमानैश्च शिखरैः पतद्भिरपि च द्रुमैः
It roared with many kinds of beings, entered the earth, its peaks trembling and trees falling down.
तस्योरुवेगोन्मथिताः पादपाः पुष्पशालिनः। निपेतुर्भूतले भग्नाः शक्रायुधहता इव
The flower-laden trees, torn up by his immense force, fell broken to the ground, as if struck by Indra's weapon.
कन्दरोदरसंस्थानां पीडितानां महौजसाम्। सिंहानां निनदो भीमो नभो भिन्दन् हि शुश्रुवे
The terrifying roar of lions of great energy, dwelling in the caves and pressed down, was heard splitting the sky.
त्रस्तव्याविद्धवसना व्याकुलीकृतभूषणाः। विद्याधर्यः समुत्पेतुः सहसा धरणीधरात्
The Vidyādharīs, their garments disordered in fear and their ornaments scattered, suddenly flew up from the mountain.
अतिप्रमाणा बलिनो दीप्तजिह्वा महाविषाः। निपीडितशिरोग्रीवा व्यवेष्टन्त महाहयः
Enormous, powerful serpents with blazing tongues and deadly venom, their heads and necks pressed down, writhed violently.
किंनरोरगगन्धर्वयक्षविद्याधरास्तथा। पीडितं तं नगवरं त्यक्त्वा गगनमास्थिताः
Kinnaras, serpents, gandharvas, yakṣas, and vidyādharas likewise abandoned that oppressed great mountain and took to the sky.
स च भूमिधरः श्रीमान् बलिना तेन पीडितः। सवृक्षशिखरोदग्रः प्रविवेश रसातलम्
That glorious mountain, pressed down by his strength, with its tall treetops, entered the netherworld.
दशयोजनविस्तारस्त्रिंशद्योजनमुच्छ्रितः। धरण्यां समतां यातः स बभूव धराधरः
Ten yojanas wide and thirty yojanas high, that mountain became level with the earth.
स लिलङ्घयिषुर्भीमं सलीलं लवणार्णवम्। कल्लोलास्फालवेलान्तमुत्पपात नभो हरिः
Wishing to leap gracefully over the dreadful salt ocean, the monkey sprang into the sky, reaching the edge of the surging waves.

Having leapt, the mighty one, swift as a winged mountain, passed over serpents, yakṣas, gandharvas, and blooming lotuses and water-lilies.
स चन्द्रकुमुदं रम्यं सार्ककारण्डवं शुभम्। तिष्यश्रवणकादम्बमभ्रशैवलशाद्वलम्
He beheld the lovely moon as a water-lily, the sun as a radiant waterfowl, the stars as kadamba flowers, and the clouds as green moss in the sky.
पुनर्वसुमहामीनं लोहिताङ्गमहाग्रहम्। ऐरावतमहाद्वीपं स्वातीहंसविलासितम्
He saw the constellation Punarvasu as great fish, Mars as a mighty crocodile, Airavata as a vast island, and the star Svati as a swan at play.
वातसंघातजालोर्मिचन्द्रांशुशिशिराम्बुमत्। हनूमानपरिश्रान्तः पुप्लुवे गगनार्णवम्
Exhausted, Hanuman crossed the ocean of the sky, whose waves were formed by masses of wind, whose waters were cooled by moonbeams.
