संदिष्टो राक्षसेन्द्रेण प्रहस्तस्य सुतो बली । जम्बुमाली महादंष्ट्रो निर्जगाम धनुर्धरः
Commanded by the king of the rakshasas, the mighty Jambumali, son of Prahasta, bearing great fangs and armed with a bow, came forth.
रक्तमाल्याम्बरधरः स्रग्वी रुचिरकुण्डलः । महान् विवृत्तनयनश्चण्डः समरदुर्जयः
He wore red garlands and garments, adorned with a wreath and shining earrings; his eyes were wide and fierce, and he was invincible in battle.
धनुः शक्रधनुःप्रख्यं महद्रुचिरसायकम् । विस्फारयानो वेगेन वज्राशनिसमस्वनम्
His bow, resembling Indra's own, was great and splendid, strung with a swift and beautiful arrow, and as he drew it, it resounded like thunder and lightning.
तस्य विस्फारघोषेण धनुषो महता दिशः । प्रदिशश्च नभश्चॆव सहसा समपूर्यत
With the mighty twang of his bow, the directions, the intermediate quarters, and even the sky were suddenly filled with sound.
रथेन खरयुक्तेन तमागतमुदीक्ष्य सः । हनुमान् वेगसंपन्नो जहर्ष च ननाद च
Seeing him approach in a chariot drawn by mules, Hanuman, swift of movement, rejoiced and roared loudly.
तं तोरणविटङ्कस्थं हनुमन्तं महाकपिम् । जम्बुमाली महाबाहुर्विव्याध निशितैः शरैः
Jambumali, the mighty-armed, struck Hanuman, the great monkey standing on the archway, with sharp arrows.
अर्धचन्द्रेण वदने शिरस्येकेन कर्णिना । बाह्वोर्विव्याध नाराचैर्दशभिस्तं कपीश्वरम्
With a crescent-headed arrow he struck his face, with a barbed one his head, and with ten iron arrows he pierced the monkey lord's arms.
तस्य तच्छुशुभे ताम्रं शरेणाभिहतं मुखम् । शरदीवाम्बुजम्फुल्लं विद्धं भास्कररश्मिना
His face, struck by the coppery arrow, shone like a lotus in autumn pierced by the rays of the sun.
तत्तस्य रक्तं रक्तेन रञ्जितं शुशुभे मुखम् । यथाकाशे महापद्मं सिक्तं चन्दनबिन्दुभिः
His blood-stained face, reddened by blood, shone like a great lotus in the sky sprinkled with drops of sandalwood.
चुकोप बाणाभिहतो राक्षसस्य महाकपिः । ततः पार्श्वेतिविपुलां ददर्श महतीं शिलाम्
Struck by the rakshasa's arrows, the great monkey grew angry; then, at his side, he saw a massive rock.
तरसा तां समुत्पाट्य चिक्षेप बलवद्बली । तां शरैर्दशभिः क्रुद्धस्ताडयामास राक्षसः
With force he uprooted it and hurled it powerfully; the enraged rakshasa struck it with ten arrows.
विपन्नं कर्म तद्दृष्ट्वा हनुमांश्चण्डविक्रमः । सालं विपुलमुत्पाट्य भ्रामयामास वीर्यवान्
Seeing his effort thwarted, Hanuman of fierce valor, full of strength, uprooted a great sala tree and began to whirl it.
भ्रामयन्तं कपिं दृष्ट्वा सालवृक्षं महाबलम् । चिक्षेप सुबहून् बाणान् जम्बुमाली महाबलः
Seeing the mighty monkey whirling the sala tree, Jambumali, of great strength, shot many arrows at him.
सालं चतुर्भिश्चिच्छेद वानरं पञ्चभिर्भुजे । शिरस्येकेन बाणेन दशभिस्तु स्तनान्तरे
He cut the sala tree with four arrows, struck the monkey's arm with five, his head with one, and his chest with ten.
स शरैः पूरिततनुः क्रोधेन महता वृतः । तमेव परिघं गृह्य भ्रामयामास वेगतः
His body filled with arrows and enveloped in great wrath, Hanuman seized the same iron club and began to whirl it swiftly.
अतिवेगोतिवेगेन भ्रामयित्वा बलोत्कटः । परिघं पातयामास जम्बुमालेर्महोरसि
With extraordinary speed and strength, he whirled the iron club and struck it upon the mighty chest of Jambumāli.
तस्य चैव शिरो नास्ति न बाहू न च जानुनी । न धनुर्नरथो नाश्वास्तत्रादृश्यन्त नेषवः
Of him, neither head nor arms nor knees remained; neither bow nor chariot nor horses nor arrows were seen there.
स हतस्तरसा तेन जम्बुमाली महाबलः । पपात निहतो भूवौ चूर्णिताङ्गविभूषणः
Thus, struck down with force by Hanuman, the powerful Jambumāli fell dead to the ground, his ornaments crushed along with his limbs.
जम्बुमालिं च निहतं किङ्करांश्च महाबलान् । चुक्रोध रावणः श्रुत्वा कोपसंरक्त लोचनः
Hearing of Jambumāli slain and the mighty attendants killed, Ravana became enraged, his eyes reddened with wrath.
स रोषसंवर्तितताम्रलोचनः प्रहस्त पुत्रे निहते महाबले । अमात्यपुत्रानतिवीर्यविक्रमान् समादिदेशाशु निशाचरेश्वरः
With eyes coppery from swelling anger, the lord of night-dwellers, upon the death of Prahasta's mighty son, swiftly commanded the sons of his ministers, who possessed moderate strength and valor.

Then, urged by the king of the rakshasas, the sons of the ministers, seven in number and radiant as flames, departed from that palace.
हेमजालपरिक्षिप्तैर्ध्वजवद्भिः पताकिभिः। तोयदस्वननिर्घोषैर्वाजियुक्तैर्महारथैः
With golden lattices surrounding them, banners like standards, and great chariots drawn by steeds roaring like thunderclouds, they set forth.
तप्तकाञ्चनचित्राणि चापान्यमितविक्रमाः। विस्फारयन्तः संहृष्टास्तडिद्वन्त इवाम्बुदाः
Brandishing bows adorned with heated gold, those warriors, delighted, stretched their bows like clouds flashing with lightning.
जनन्यस्तास्ततस्तेषां विदित्वा किंकरान् हतान्। बभूवुः शोकसम्भ्रान्ताः सबान्धवसुहृज्जनाः
The mothers of those warriors, realizing the attendants had been slain, became distraught with grief, along with their relatives and friends.
ते परस्परसंघर्षात् तप्तकाञ्चनभूषणाः। अभिपेतुर्हनूमन्तं तोरणस्थमवस्थितम्
Adorned with heated golden ornaments, they rushed together toward Hanuman, who stood upon the gateway.
