ते गदाभिर्विचित्राभिः परिघैः काञ्चनाङ्गदैः। आजग्मुर्वानरश्रेष्ठं शरैरादित्यसंनिभैः
With wondrous maces and iron bars adorned with golden bands, and arrows shining like the sun, they advanced upon the foremost of monkeys.
मुद्गरैः पट्टिशैः शूलैः प्रासतोमरपाणयः। परिवार्य हनूमन्तं सहसा तस्थुरग्रतः
With clubs, spears, lances, javelins, and axes in hand, they surrounded Hanumān and suddenly stood before him.
हनूमानपि तेजस्वी श्रीमान् पर्वतसंनिभः। क्षितावाविद्ध्य लाङ्गूलं ननाद च महाध्वनिम्
Hanumān, radiant and glorious, resembling a mountain, struck his tail upon the ground and let out a mighty roar.
स भूत्वा तु महाकायो हनूमान् मारुतात्मजः। पुच्छमास्फोटयामास लङ्कां शब्देन पूरयन्
Then Hanumān, son of the wind, assuming a gigantic form, thrashed his tail, filling Laṅkā with sound.
तस्यास्फोटितशब्देन महता चानुनादिना। पेतुर्विहङ्गा गगनादुच्चैश्चेदमघोषयत्
At the great, resounding noise of his tail's beating, birds fell from the sky, and the earth echoed with that tumult.
जयत्यतिबलो रामो लक्ष्मणश्च महाबलः। राजा जयति सुग्रीवो राघवेणाभिपालितः
Victorious is mighty Rāma, and Lakṣmaṇa of great strength; victorious is King Sugrīva, protected by Rāghava.
दासोऽहं कोसलेन्द्रस्य रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः। हनूमान् शत्रुसैन्यानां निहन्ता मारुतात्मजः
I am the servant of the king of Kosala, Rāma, whose deeds are unwearied; I am Hanumān, son of the Wind, destroyer of enemy armies.
न रावणसहस्रं मे युद्धे प्रतिबलं भवेत्। शिलाभिश्च प्रहरतः पादपैश्च सहस्रशः
Not even a thousand Rāvaṇas could match me in battle, as I strike with rocks and trees by the thousands.
अर्दयित्वा पुरीं लङ्कामभिवाद्य च मैथिलीम्। समृद्धार्थो गमिष्यामि मिषतां सर्वरक्षसाम्
Having struck terror into the city of Laṅkā and saluted Maithilī, I shall depart, my purpose accomplished, before the eyes of all the rākṣasas.
तस्य संनादशब्देन तेऽभवन् भयशङ्किताः। ददृशुश्च हनूमन्तं संध्यामेघमिवोन्नतम्
At the sound of his roar, they became filled with fear and suspicion; and they saw Hanumān, towering like a cloud at dusk.
स्वामिसंदेशनिःशङ्कास्ततस्ते राक्षसाः कपिम्। चित्रैः प्रहरणैर्भीमैरभिपेतुस्ततस्ततः
Then those rākṣasas, confident in their master's command, rushed at the monkey from all sides with strange and fearsome weapons.
स तैः परिवृतः शूरैः सर्वतः स महाबलः। आससादायसं भीमं परिघं तोरणाश्रितम्
Surrounded on all sides by those valiant warriors, that mighty one approached a formidable iron club resting at the gate.
स तं परिघमादाय जघान रजनीचरान्। सपन्नगमिवादाय स्फुरन्तं विनतासुतः
Seizing that club, he struck down the night-wanderers, just as Garuḍa, son of Vinatā, seizes a writhing serpent.
विचचाराम्बरे वीरः परिगृह्य च मारुतिः। सूदयामास वज्रेण दैत्यानिव सहस्रदृक्
The heroic son of the Wind, grasping the club, moved through the air and slaughtered the demons as Indra with his thunderbolt destroys the daityas.
स हत्वा राक्षसान् वीरः किंकरान् मारुतात्मजः। युद्धाकाङ्क्षी महावीरस्तोरणं समवस्थितः
Having slain the demon warriors, the heroic son of the Wind, eager for battle, stood firmly at the gate.
ततस्तस्माद् भयान्मुक्ताः कतिचित्तत्र राक्षसाः। निहतान् किंकरान् सर्वान् रावणाय न्यवेदयन्
Then a few rākṣasas, freed from fear, went and reported to Rāvaṇa that all the kiṃkaras had been slain.
स राक्षसानां निहतं महाबलं निशम्य राजा परिवृत्तलोचनः। समादिदेशाप्रतिमं पराक्रमे प्रहस्तपुत्रं समरे सुदुर्जयम्
Hearing that his mighty kiṃkaras had been killed, the king, his eyes turning in anger, ordered Prahasta's son—unmatched in valor and nearly invincible in battle—to go forth.

ततः स किंकरान् हत्वा हनूमान् ध्यानमास्थितः। वनं भग्नं मया चैत्यप्रासादो न विनाशितः
Then, having slain the kiṃkaras, Hanumān entered into meditation, reflecting: 'Though I have destroyed the grove, I have not ruined the caitya temple.'
चैत्यप्रासादमुत्प्लुत्य मेरुशृङ्गमिवोन्नतम्। आरुरोह हरिश्रेष्ठो हनूमान् मारुतात्मजः
Leaping onto the caitya temple, towering like the peak of Mount Meru, Hanumān, the best of monkeys and son of the Wind, ascended.
आरुह्य गिरिसंकाशं प्रासादं हरियूथपः। बभौ स सुमहातेजाः प्रतिसूर्य इवोदितः
Having climbed the temple, resembling a mountain, the leader of the monkeys, radiant with immense energy, shone like the rising sun.
सम्प्रधृष्य तु दुर्धर्षश्चैत्यप्रासादमुन्नतम्। हनूमान् प्रज्वलँल्लक्ष्म्या पारियात्रोपमोऽभवत्
Having boldly seized the lofty caitya temple, Hanumān, blazing with splendor, became like a celestial pāriyātra tree.
स भूत्वा सुमहाकायः प्रभावान् मारुतात्मजः। धृष्टमास्फोटयामास लङ्कां शब्देन पूरयन्
Then, having assumed a vast form, the powerful son of the Wind struck Laṅkā with a resounding roar, filling it with sound.
तस्यास्फोटितशब्देन महता श्रोत्रघातिना। पेतुर्विहंगमास्तत्र चैत्यपालाश्च मोहिताः
By the loud, resounding noise he made, which struck the ears, the birds there fell, and the guardians of the shrine were bewildered.
अस्त्रविज्जयतां रामो लक्ष्मणश्च महाबलः। राजा जयति सुग्रीवो राघवेणाभिपालितः
Victory to Rama, master of weapons, and to mighty Lakshmana! Victory to King Sugriva, protected by Raghava!
दासोऽहं कोसलेन्द्रस्य रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः। हनूमान् शत्रुसैन्यानां निहन्ता मारुतात्मजः

Having overcome the city of Lanka and greeted Maithili, I shall depart, my purpose accomplished, before the eyes of all the rakshasas.
एवमुक्त्वा महाकायश्चैत्यस्थो हरियूथपः। ननाद भीमनिर्ह्रादो रक्षसां जनयन् भयम्
Having spoken thus, the great-bodied leader of the monkeys, standing atop the shrine, roared with a terrifying sound, striking fear into the rakshasas.
तेन नादेन महता चैत्यपालाः शतं ययुः। गृहीत्वा विविधानस्त्रान् प्रासान् खड्गान् परश्वधान्
At that great roar, the shrine-guards, a hundred in number, came forth, taking up various weapons—lances, swords, and axes.
