Those two tigers among men, royal sons of immense strength, inspired by the desire to see you, will reduce the worlds to ashes.
After slaying Ravana, cruel in battle, along with his kinsmen, Raghava will bring you, wide-eyed one, back to his own city.
Tell me what message should be conveyed to Raghava, to mighty Lakshmana, to the radiant Sugriva, or to the assembled monkeys.
When Hanuman had spoken thus, Sita again replied: 'Kausalya, the noble-minded one, gave birth to the lord of the world.'
For my sake, ask after his well-being and bow to him with your head; and to the beloved ladies, adorned with garlands and all jewels.
Even the rarest sovereignty on the vast earth, honor and favor should be shown to his father and mother.
Sumitra’s virtuous son, who has accompanied Rama in exile, forsaking unsurpassed comfort out of loyalty.
He follows Kakutstha, protecting his brother in the forest; broad-shouldered, mighty-armed, thoughtful, and pleasing to behold.
He acts towards Rama as a son would to a father, and towards me as a mother would; yet when I was being carried away, the hero Lakshmana did not know.
Lakshmana, who serves elders, is endowed with fortune, capable, not given to much speech, the best among those dear to the royal prince, and resembles my father-in-law.
Lakshmana, always dearer to Rama than myself, is assigned to whatever task, and he carries it out with valor.
He, whom seeing, Rāghava forgets even the conduct of the noble—he must be told, for my sake, words of well-being from me.
Gentle always, pure, capable, dear to Rāma is Lakṣmaṇa; O best of monkeys, let him become the remover of sorrow.
You are the authority in the accomplishment of this task, O leader of monkeys; let Rāghava, through your efforts, be diligent concerning me.
And say this again and again to my lord, the heroic Rāma: 'I will hold on to life for a month, O son of Daśaratha.'
Beyond a month I will not live—this I tell you truly; seized by Rāvaṇa through deceit and evil deeds, you must save me, O hero, as Kauśikī was saved from the netherworld.
Then, removing the splendid divine crest-jewel from her garment, Sītā gave it to Hanumān, saying, 'This is to be given to Rāghava.'
Having received that unsurpassed gem, the heroic Hanumān placed it on his finger, for his arm was not fit for it.
Taking the jewel, the best of monkeys, after bowing, circumambulated Sītā and stood respectfully at her side.
Filled with great joy from seeing Sītā, he went in his heart to Rāma and to Lakṣmaṇa, endowed with auspicious marks.
Taking up that most precious jewel, held by the daughter of King Janaka, released from her hair and shaken by the mountain wind, with a happy mind he set out to return.
Let the thirty-ninth chapter be heard in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Sundara Kāṇḍa.
Then, giving the jewel, Sītā spoke to Hanumān: 'This is a token of recognition, truly known to Rāma.'
On seeing the jewel, Rāma will remember three: the hero, my mother, and King Daśaratha.
Therefore, urged on by enthusiasm, you, best of monkeys, consider what further can be done in this effort.
You are the authority in the accomplishment of this task, O best of monkeys; consider what effort would bring an end to sorrow.
Hanumān, take up effort and become the remover of sorrow; and the wind-god’s mighty son, having promised so, agreed.
Bowing his head to Vaidehī, he prepared to depart; knowing the monkey, son of the wind, was setting out, the lady understood.
With a voice choked by tears, Maithilī spoke these words: 'Hanumān, convey my well-being to Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa together.'
O best of the monkeys, you should convey my respectful and righteous greetings to Sugriva, his ministers, and all the elder vanaras.
