सुग्रीवसचिवं देवि बुद्ध्यस्व पवनात्मजम्। कुशली तव काकुत्स्थः सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः
Know me, O lady, as Sugrīva's minister, the son of the wind; your husband, the best among all wielders of weapons, is safe.
गुरोराराधने युक्तो लक्ष्मणः शुभलक्षणः। तस्य वीर्यवतो देवि भर्तुस्तव हिते रतः
Lakṣmaṇa, of auspicious marks, is devoted to serving his elder; O lady, he is intent on the welfare of your mighty husband.
अहमेकस्तु सम्प्राप्तः सुग्रीववचनादिह। मयेयमसहायेन चरता कामरूपिणा
But I alone have come here, sent by Sugrīva's command; I have wandered here, unaided, in whatever form I wished.
दक्षिणा दिगनुक्रान्ता त्वन्मार्गविचयैषिणा। दिष्ट्याहं हरिसैन्यानां त्वन्नाशमनुशोचताम्
I traversed the southern direction, seeking your path; by fortune, I found the monkey army, who were grieving for your loss.
अपनेष्यामि संतापं तवाधिगमशासनात्। दिष्ट्या हि न मम व्यर्थं सागरस्येह लङ्घनम्
I will remove your distress, having received the command to find you; by good fortune, my crossing of the ocean here has not been in vain.
प्राप्स्याम्यहमिदं देवि त्वद्दर्शनकृतं यशः। राघवश्च महावीर्यः क्षिप्रं त्वामभिपत्स्यते
I shall attain this fame, O lady, for having seen you; and Rāghava, of great might, will soon come to you.
सपुत्रबान्धवं हत्वा रावणं राक्षसाधिपम्। माल्यवान् नाम वैदेहि गिरीणामुत्तमो गिरिः
Having slain Rāvaṇa, lord of the rākṣasas, along with his sons and kinsmen—O Vaidehī, there is a mountain named Mālyavān, the best of mountains.
ततो गच्छति गोकर्णं पर्वतं केसरी हरिः। स च देवर्षिभिर्दिष्टः पिता मम महाकपिः। तीर्थे नदीपतेः पुण्ये शम्बसादनमुद्धरन्
From there, the monkey Kesari, my father, went to the mountain Gokarṇa; directed by the divine sages, he restored the holy abode of Śambhu at the sacred ford of the lord of rivers.
यस्याहं हरिणः क्षेत्रे जातो वातेन मैथिलि। हनूमानिति विख्यातो लोके स्वेनैव कर्मणा
O Maithilī, in that place of the monkeys I was born by the wind; I am known in the world as Hanumān, by my own deeds.
विश्वासार्थं तु वैदेहि भर्तुरुक्ता मया गुणाः। अचिरात् त्वामितो देवि राघवो नयिता ध्रुवम्
O Vaidehī, I have spoken of your husband's virtues to inspire your trust; soon, O lady, Rāghava will surely bring you from here.
एवं विश्वासिता सीता हेतुभिः शोककर्शिता। उपपन्नैरभिज्ञानैर्दूतं तमधिगच्छति
Thus Sītā, worn by grief, was reassured by these reasonable proofs, and recognized him as the messenger.
अतुलं च गता हर्षं प्रहर्षेण तु जानकी। नेत्राभ्यां वक्रपक्ष्माभ्यां मुमोचानन्दजं जलम्
Janaki, overwhelmed with incomparable joy, shed tears born of happiness from her eyes, whose curved lashes trembled.
चारु तद् वदनं तस्यास्ताम्रशुक्लायतेक्षणम्। अशोभत विशालाक्ष्या राहुमुक्त इवोडुराट्
Her lovely face, with coppery and white wide eyes, shone beautifully, like the moon released from Rahu's grasp.
हनूमन्तं कपिं व्यक्तं मन्यते नान्यथेति सा। अथोवाच हनूमांस्तामुत्तरं प्रियदर्शनाम्
She recognized Hanuman the monkey clearly and thought he could not be anyone else; then Hanuman spoke to her, who was pleasing to behold.
एतत् ते सर्वमाख्यातं समाश्वसिहि मैथिलि। किं करोमि कथं वा ते रोचते प्रतियाम्यहम्
All this has been told to you; be comforted, Maithili. What shall I do, or how would you wish me to return?
हतेऽसुरे संयति शम्बसादने कपिप्रवीरेण महर्षिचोदनात्। ततोऽस्मि वायुप्रभवो हि मैथिलि प्रभावतस्तत्प्रतिमश्च वानरः
When the demon was slain in battle at Shambasadana by the foremost monkey, prompted by the great sage, then I, Maithili, am indeed born of the wind; and by his power, I am a monkey equal to him.

भूय एव महातेजा हनूमान् पवनात्मजः। अब्रवीत् प्रश्रितं वाक्यं सीताप्रत्ययकारणात्
Again, the mighty Hanuman, son of the wind, spoke respectful words for the sake of convincing Sita.
प्रत्ययार्थं तवानीतं तेन दत्तं महात्मना। समाश्वसिहि भद्रं ते क्षीणदुःखफला ह्यसि
For your assurance, this was brought and given by the great-souled one; be comforted, may you be blessed, for the fruit of your suffering is now diminished.
गृहीत्वा प्रेक्षमाणा सा भर्तुः करविभूषितम्। भर्तारमिव सम्प्राप्तं जानकी मुदिताभवत्
Taking it and gazing upon it, adorned with her husband's mark, Janaki became joyful, as if her husband himself had arrived.
चारु तद् वदनं तस्यास्ताम्रशुक्लायतेक्षणम्। बभूव हर्षोदग्रं च राहुमुक्त इवोडुराट्
Her lovely face, with coppery and white wide eyes, became radiant with intense joy, like the moon released from Rahu's grasp.
ततः सा ह्रीमती बाला भर्तुः संदेशहर्षिता। परितुष्टा प्रियं कृत्वा प्रशशंस महाकपिम्
Then that modest young woman, delighted by her husband's message, satisfied and having fulfilled her wish, praised the great monkey.
विक्रान्तस्त्वं समर्थस्त्वं प्राज्ञस्त्वं वानरोत्तम। येनेदं राक्षसपदं त्वयैकेन प्रधर्षितम्
You are valiant, capable, wise, O best of monkeys, by whom this domain of the rakshasas has been challenged single-handedly.
शतयोजनविस्तीर्णः सागरो मकरालयः। विक्रमश्लाघनीयेन क्रमता गोष्पदीकृतः
The ocean, a hundred yojanas wide and abode of crocodiles, was made like a cow's hoofprint by your praiseworthy valor in crossing it.
नहि त्वां प्राकृतं मन्ये वानरं वानरर्षभ। यस्य ते नास्ति संत्रासो रावणादपि सम्भ्रमः
I do not consider you an ordinary monkey, O chief among monkeys, for you have no fear, not even of Ravana.
अर्हसे च कपिश्रेष्ठ मया समभिभाषितुम्। यद्यसि प्रेषितस्तेन रामेण विदितात्मना
You deserve to be addressed by me, O best of monkeys, if you have been sent by Rama, who knows his own self.
प्रेषयिष्यति दुर्धर्षो रामो नह्यपरीक्षितम्। पराक्रममविज्ञाय मत्सकाशं विशेषतः
The unconquerable Rama would not send anyone to me without first knowing their prowess, especially to my presence.
दिष्ट्या च कुशली रामो धर्मात्मा सत्यसंगरः। लक्ष्मणश्च महातेजाः सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनः
By fortune, Rama is safe, righteous, and steadfast in truth; and Lakshmana, of great energy, who brings joy to Sumitra.
कुशली यदि काकुत्स्थः किं न सागरमेखलाम्। महीं दहति कोपेन युगान्ताग्निरिवोत्थितः
If Kakutstha is safe, why does he not burn the earth, girdled by the ocean, in his wrath like the fire at the end of the age?
अथवा शक्तिमन्तौ तौ सुराणामपि निग्रहे। ममैव तु न दुःखानामस्ति मन्ये विपर्ययः
Or perhaps those two are powerful enough even to subdue the gods; yet, I think, there is no reversal for my sorrows.
