'With this colorless, pitiable human woman, O lord of Rākṣasas? Surely, O great king, in her the gods, the best enjoyments—'
'The foremost immortals do not bestow upon her the pleasures won by your mighty arms. For one who desires an unwilling woman, the body is tormented.'
'For one who desires a willing woman, joy is beautiful.' Thus addressed by the Rākṣasī, the powerful one, like a mass of clouds, laughed and withdrew.
Departing, the ten-necked one seemed to make the earth tremble; shining like blazing sun, he entered his palace.
Then, divine and Gandharva maidens, and Nāga maidens, surrounded the ten-necked one and entered that splendid mansion.
Having rebuked Sītā, the virtuous daughter of Mithilā, who was trembling, Rāvaṇa, deluded by desire, abandoned her and entered his own palace.

Listen to the twenty-third chapter.
Having thus spoken to Maithilī, the king Rāvaṇa, the terror of his foes, after instructing all the Rākṣasī women, departed.
When the king of Rākṣasas had gone out and returned to his inner chambers, those fearsome Rākṣasī women rushed toward Sītā.
Then, approaching Sītā, the Rākṣasī women, maddened by anger, addressed Vaidehī with extremely harsh words.
'O Sītā, you do not value being the wife of the foremost of the Paulastyas, the great-souled Rāvaṇa, the ten-necked one.'
Then a demoness named Ekajaṭā, her eyes reddened with anger, addressed Sītā, whose belly rested upon her palm.
Of the six progenitors, this is the fourth Prajāpati, renowned as Pulastya, the mind-born son of Brahmā.
Pulastya's radiant son, the great sage born of mind, is named Viśravā, equal in brilliance to the progenitors.
His son, O wide-eyed one, is Rāvaṇa, the enemy of enemies; you ought to become the wife of that lord of demons.
Why, O beautiful-limbed one, do you not accept the words I have spoken? Then a demoness named Harijaṭā spoke.
Opening her eyes in anger, resembling those of a cat, she said: 'By whom the thirty-three gods and the king of gods were conquered.'
You ought to become the wife of that lord of demons, mighty and heroic, never retreating in battle, endowed with strength and valor; why do you not desire to be his wife?
The mighty king will abandon his beloved and esteemed wife, and approach you, O most fortunate, above all others, Rāvaṇa will come to you.
Leaving behind his splendid inner chambers, adorned with a thousand women and various jewels, Rāvaṇa will come to you.
Then another demoness named Vikaṭā spoke: 'By whose terrible prowess elephants, gandharvas, and demons have been repeatedly defeated in battle, he has come to your side.'
For what reason, O lowest one, do you not wish to be the wife of Rāvaṇa, the lord of demons, who possesses all prosperity and greatness?
Then a demoness named Durmukhī spoke: 'For whom the sun does not shine, and the wind, frightened, does not blow, O gentle-eyed one, why do you not stand with him?'
The trees showered flowers out of fear for him; mountains released water, and clouds give whatever he desires.
O beautiful one, for that king of the demons, king of kings, why do you not resolve to be Rāvaṇa's wife?
O goddess, O beautiful one, what has been said to you is good and true; accept these words, O smiling one, otherwise you will not survive.

Listen to the twenty-fourth chapter in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Sundara Kāṇḍa.
Then all the demonesses with distorted faces spoke harsh and unworthy words to Sītā, words that were unpleasant.
Why, O Sītā, do you not consent to stay in the inner chambers, delightful to all beings, furnished with luxurious beds?
You overvalue the marriage of a human woman to a human man; withdraw your mind from Rāma—such a thing will never happen.
