The great trees, their leafy tops shaken, their flowers and fruits scattered, looked like defeated courtesans who have cast aside their garments and ornaments.
Shaken by the swift Hanuman, those excellent trees, laden with fruit, quickly shed their flowers, leaves, and fruits.

Deprived of flocks of birds, the trees, with only their branches remaining, all appeared lifeless, shaken violently by the wind.
Like a young woman with disheveled hair, her adornments ruined, her beautiful teeth and lips bitten and scratched by nails and teeth,
So too, battered by Hanuman's tail, hands, and feet, the aśoka grove, with its broken trees, appeared.

Adorned by trees whose tops had fallen into the water, it seemed like an angry woman being restrained by her dear friends.
And the great monkey saw it once more filled with returning waters, as if a beloved had come back, radiant, to her lover.
