Like clusters of blossoming vines in spring, intertwined and mingled by the wind, so too were these women, their flowers interlaced with one another.
That grove of Ravana's women, with their beautiful shoulders entwined and swarming with bees, resembled a forest shaken by the wind.
Even among their proper ornaments, bodies, garments, and garlands, it was impossible at that time to distinguish one woman from another.
As Ravana lay comfortably, those women of various complexions, shining like golden lamps, appeared as if they were eyes that did not blink.
The maidens of kings, sages, gods, Gandharvas, and demons, all, overcome by desire, had become his.
All those women, seized by Ravana who longed for battle, were intoxicated with passion; some had been brought there, deluded by love.
None of those women had been obtained by force, by valor, or by any other desire, nor were any of them new to him—except for the worthy daughter of Janaka.
None was of low birth, none was lacking in beauty, none was ungracious or lacking in courtesy; none became his wife who lacked virtue, nor was any unlovely to him.
Then the lord of the monkeys reflected: 'If the virtuous wife of Raghava is like this, then these wives of the great king of the Rakshasas are indeed well-born'—such was his noble thought.
Again he pondered, assuming a hidden form: 'Surely Sita is superior in virtue; yet this great-souled lord of Lanka has committed a grievous, ignoble deed against her.'

Here ends the tenth sarga of the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Sundara Kāṇḍa.

Encircled with pure gold and shining like the sun, he saw a supreme seat, spread with garlands of ashoka flowers.

It was fanned on all sides by attendants holding yak-tail whisks, perfumed with various fragrances, and scented with the finest incense.
Spread with the finest coverings and draped with soft sheep wool, it was beautifully adorned all around with garlands of precious flowers.
On that seat, Hanuman saw one like a thundercloud, with blazing, radiant earrings, red-eyed, mighty-armed, and clothed in splendid silver garments.
His body was anointed with fragrant red sandalwood, glowing like a raincloud tinged with the red of sunset, streaked with lightning.
Adorned with divine ornaments, handsome, able to assume any form at will, surrounded by trees, groves, and thickets, he seemed like Mount Mandara in repose.
Hanuman saw that after drinking, the lord of the rakshasas lay asleep on a shining couch, resplendent and heroic.
As Hanuman approached Ravana, who was breathing like a great serpent, he became extremely anxious and crept forward with great caution.
Then, reaching a raised platform and taking shelter behind a balustrade, the great monkey gazed at the intoxicated tiger among rakshasas.
The splendid bed of the rakshasa king, as he slept, shone like a great waterfall with a noble elephant resting beside it.
Hanuman saw the mighty arms of the great-souled king, adorned with golden armlets, flung out and resembling Indra's banners.
Scarred by the blows of elephant tusks, broad as if carved by a thunderbolt, and marked like Vishnu's discus, his arms were massive and strong.
Thick, perfectly formed, joined together and full of strength, with beautiful nails and thumbs, and marked by his own rings.
Pressed together, shaped like iron clubs, round and like elephant trunks, they lay outstretched on the bright bed like two five-headed serpents.
Anointed with cool, fragrant, and most precious sandalwood, like the paste used for the moon or a hare, they were beautifully adorned.
Crushed by the finest women, anointed with exquisite perfumes, frequented by Yakṣas, serpents, Gandharvas, gods, and the best of Dānavas—
