स तैः सम्पूजितः पूज्यः प्रतिपन्नप्रयोजनैः। जगामाकाशमाविश्य पन्नगाशनवत् कपिः
Honored by those who had achieved their purpose, the venerable monkey entered the sky, like Garuḍa, the devourer of serpents.
प्राप्तभूयिष्ठपारस्तु सर्वतः परिलोकयन्। योजनानां शतस्यान्ते वनराजीं ददर्श सः
Having nearly reached the far shore, he looked around in all directions and saw a stretch of forest at the end of a hundred yojanas.
ददर्श च पतन्नेव विविधद्रुमभूषितम्। द्वीपं शाखामृगश्रेष्ठो मलयोपवनानि च
And as he descended, the best of the branch-leaping monkeys beheld an island adorned with various trees, and the groves of Mount Malaya.
सागरं सागरानूपान् सागरानूपजान् द्रुमान्। सागरस्य च पत्नीनां मुखान्यपि विलोकयत्
He gazed upon the ocean, the coastal lands, the trees growing by the shore, and even the faces of the wives of the ocean.
स महामेघसंकाशं समीक्ष्यात्मानमात्मवान्। निरुन्धन्तमिवाकाशं चकार मतिमान् मतिम्
Seeing his own form, vast as a great cloud, the self-possessed one, wise in thought, considered as if he were blocking the sky.
कायवृद्धिं प्रवेगं च मम दृष्ट्वैव राक्षसाः। मयि कौतूहलं कुर्युरिति मेने महामतिः
The great-minded one thought, 'If the rakṣasas see my increased size and speed, they will become curious about me.'
ततः शरीरं संक्षिप्य तन्महीधरसंनिभम्। पुनः प्रकृतिमापेदे वीतमोह इवात्मवान्
Then, contracting his body, which was like a great mountain, he returned to his natural form, composed, as one freed from delusion.
तद्रूपमतिसंक्षिप्य हनूमान् प्रकृतौ स्थितः। त्रीन् क्रमानिव विक्रम्य बलिवीर्यहरो हरिः
Having greatly reduced his form, Hanuman, standing in his own nature, traversed three strides, like Hari who stole Bali's strength and power.
स चारुनानाविधरूपधारी परं समासाद्य समुद्रतीरम्। परैरशक्यं प्रतिपन्नरूपः समीक्षितात्मा समवेक्षितार्थः
Assuming a charming and various form, he reached the far shore of the ocean; taking a shape impossible for others, he, self-aware and intent on his purpose, surveyed the scene.
ततः स लम्बस्य गिरेः समृद्धे विचित्रकूटे निपपात कूटे। सकेतकोद्दालकनारिकेले महाभ्रकूटप्रतिमो महात्मा
Then, on the splendid peak of the lofty Lambā mountain, amidst ketaka, udālaka, and coconut trees, the great-souled one, resembling a mass of clouds, alighted.
ततस्तु सम्प्राप्य समुद्रतीरं समीक्ष्य लंकां गिरिवर्यमूर्ध्नि। कपिस्तु तस्मिन् निपपात पर्वते विधूय रूपं व्यथयन्मृगद्विजान्
Having reached the ocean's shore and gazed upon Laṅkā atop the best of mountains, the monkey landed on that mountain, shedding his form and startling the deer and birds.
स सागरं दानवपन्नगायुतं बलेन विक्रम्य महोर्मिमालिनम्। निपत्य तीरे च महोदधेस्तदा ददर्श लंकाममरावतीमिव
Having crossed the ocean teeming with dānavas and serpents, wreathed in mighty waves, he landed on the great ocean's shore and beheld Laṅkā, like the city of the gods.

योजनानां शतं श्रीमांस्तीर्त्वाप्युत्तमविक्रमः। अनिःश्वसन् कपिस्तत्र न ग्लानिमधिगच्छति
Having crossed a hundred yojanas, the illustrious and supremely valiant monkey, without panting, did not experience fatigue there.
शतान्यहं योजनानां क्रमेयं सुबहून्यपि। किं पुनः सागरस्यान्तं संख्यातं शतयोजनम्
I could traverse hundreds of yojanas, even many more; so what of the measured hundred yojanas across the ocean?
स तु वीर्यवतां श्रेष्ठः प्लवतामपि चोत्तमः। जगाम वेगवाँल्लंकां लङ्घयित्वा महोदधिम्
He, the foremost among the powerful and the best among those who leap, sped swiftly to Lanka, crossing the vast ocean.
शाद्वलानि च नीलानि गन्धवन्ति वनानि च। मधुमन्ति च मध्येन जगाम नगवन्ति च
He passed through green meadows, dark forests fragrant with scent, honey-laden woods, and mountains along the way.
शैलांश्च तरुसंछन्नान् वनराजीश्च पुष्पिताः। अभिचक्राम तेजस्वी हनूमान् प्लवगर्षभः
Hanuman, radiant and chief among the monkeys, approached mountains covered with trees and rows of blossoming forests.
स तस्मिन्नचले तिष्ठन् वनान्युपवनानि च। स नगाग्रे स्थितां लंकां ददर्श पवनात्मजः
Standing upon that mountain, amidst forests and groves, the son of the wind saw Lanka situated atop the peak.
सरलान् कर्णिकारांश्च खर्जूरांश्च सुपुष्पितान्। प्रियालान् मुचुलिन्दांश्च कुटजान् केतकानपि
He saw sal trees, karnikara, fully blossomed date palms, priyala, muculinda, kutaja, and ketaka as well.
प्रियङ्गून् गन्धपूर्णांश्च नीपान् सप्तच्छदांस्तथा। असनान् कोविदारांश्च करवीरांश्च पुष्पितान्
He saw priyangu trees full of fragrance, nipa, saptachhada, asana, kovidara, and blossoming karavira.
पुष्पभारनिबद्धांश्च तथा मुकुलितानपि। पादपान् विहगाकीर्णान् पवनाधूतमस्तकान्
He saw trees laden with flowers, some still in bud, their crowns stirred by the wind, and birds scattered among them.
हंसकारण्डवाकीर्णा वापीः पद्मोत्पलावृताः। आक्रीडान् विविधान् रम्यान् विविधांश्च जलाशयान्
He saw ponds filled with swans and cranes, covered with lotuses and water lilies, delightful playgrounds, and various reservoirs.
संततान् विविधैर्वृक्षैः सर्वर्तुफलपुष्पितैः। उद्यानानि च रम्याणि ददर्श कपिकुञ्जरः
The mighty monkey beheld gardens adorned with various trees, bearing fruit and flowers in all seasons.
समासाद्य च लक्ष्मीवाँल्लंकां रावणपालिताम्। परिखाभिः सपद्माभिः सोत्पलाभिरलंकृताम्
He approached splendid Lanka, ruled by Ravana, adorned with moats filled with lotuses and water lilies.
सीतापहरणात् तेन रावणेन सुरक्षिताम्। समन्ताद् विचरद्भिश्च राक्षसैरुग्रधन्वभिः
Protected by Ravana since Sita's abduction, it was guarded on all sides by rakshasas roaming with fierce bows.
काञ्चनेनावृतां रम्यां प्राकारेण महापुरीम्। गृहैश्च गिरिसंकाशैः शारदाम्बुदसंनिभैः
The beautiful great city was encircled by a golden wall, with houses resembling mountains and autumn clouds.
पाण्डुराभिः प्रतोलीभिरुच्चाभिरभिसंवृताम्। अट्टालकशताकीर्णां पताकाध्वजशोभिताम्
It was enclosed by tall, pale avenues, adorned with hundreds of towers, and bright with banners and flags.
तोरणैः काञ्चनैर्दिव्यैर्लतापङ्क्तिविराजितैः। ददर्श हनुमाँल्लंकां देवो देवपुरीमिव
Hanuman saw Lanka, radiant with divine golden gateways and rows of vines, like the city of the gods.
