Thus addressed, your mother was pleased, O mighty monkey; in the cave she gave birth to you, strong-armed bull among the Vanaras.
Then, seeing the sun rise in the great forest, you, as a child, leapt up, desiring to seize it as if it were a fruit, and sprang into the sky.
O mighty monkey, after traversing three hundred yojanas, driven by your energy, you did not become despondent.
As you swiftly reached the sky, O mighty monkey, Indra, filled with anger and radiance, hurled his thunderbolt at you.
Then, on the peak of a mountain, your left jaw was broken; from that, you became renowned by the name Hanuman.
Then, seeing you struck down, the Wind-god himself, furious, ceased to blow throughout the three worlds.
With the three worlds disturbed, all the gods became agitated; the lords of the world sought to appease the enraged Wind-god.
When the Wind was appeased, Brahmā granted you a boon: 'O truly valiant one, in battle you shall not be slain by weapons.'
And seeing you unharmed by the blow of the thunderbolt, the thousand-eyed Indra, pleased in heart, granted you a supreme boon.
'Your death shall come only at your own will, O lord.' Thus, you are the son of Kesari, born in the field, of terrible valor.
You are the true-born son of the Wind-god, and equal to him in brilliance; indeed, O child, you are the son of Vāyu, and his equal in leaping.
Today, our lives are spent, but you are now among us, endowed with skill and valor, like another king of the monkeys.
'With three strides, O child, I myself circled the earth, with its mountains, forests, and groves, twenty-one times in a clockwise direction.'
'Likewise, by the command of the gods, we gathered herbs, by which nectar was churned, and then we possessed great strength.'
'But now I am old, my valor diminished; at this time, you, endowed with all virtues, are our hope.'
Now display your might, for you are the foremost among those who leap; the entire host of monkeys wishes to witness your strength.
Rise up, tiger among monkeys, leap across the great ocean; for Hanuman, your path surpasses that of all beings.
All the monkeys are disheartened, Hanuman, why do you hesitate? Stride forth with great speed, as Vishnu took his three strides.
Then, urged by the leader of the monkeys, the son of the wind, confident in his speed, delighted that troop of monkey heroes and assumed a great form.

Let the sixty-seventh chapter be heard.
Seeing him expanding, preparing to cross a hundred yojanas, and swiftly filling the space, the foremost monkey—
Suddenly casting off sorrow, filled with joy, they cried out and praised mighty Hanuman.
Joyful and astonished, they gazed all around at him, the one who had made the three strides, enthusiastic, like people watching Narayana.
Praised by all, Hanuman, mighty in strength, grew larger; curling his tail, he gained power from delight.
As he was praised by the elder leaders of monkeys, and filled with brilliance, his form became unsurpassed.
Just as a lion stretches in an open mountain cave, so now the son of the wind expands himself.
His face, as he expanded, shone brilliantly, wise and radiant like Ambariṣa, like fire blazing without smoke.
Rising from the midst of the monkeys, his body thrilled with joy, Hanuman respectfully addressed the elder monkeys.
The wind, strong and immeasurable, friend of fire, climbs mountain peaks and moves through the sky.
I am the son born of the wind, swift and mighty; in leaping, I am equal to him.
