प्रणम्य मूर्ध्ना पतिता वसुधायं समाहिताः। सुग्रीवः प्रकृतीः सर्वाः सम्भाष्योत्थाप्य वीर्यवान्
bowed their heads and fell to the earth with concentration; Sugriva, strong in valor, addressed all the chiefs and raised them up.
भ्रातुरन्तःपुरं सौम्यं प्रविवेश महाबलः। प्रविष्टं भीमविक्रान्तं सुग्रीवं वानरर्षभम्
The mighty Sugriva entered the pleasant inner quarters of his brother; the heroic, formidable Sugriva, the foremost among monkeys, entered.
अभ्यषिञ्चन्त सुहृदः सहस्राक्षमिवामराः। तस्य पाण्डुरमाजह्रुश्छत्रं हेमपरिष्कृतम्
His friends anointed him, like the immortals anointing Indra; for him they brought a pale parasol adorned with gold.
शुक्ले च वालव्यजने हेमदण्डे यशस्करे। तथा रत्नानि सर्वाणि सर्वबीजौषधानि च
White fly-whisks with golden handles, famed for their glory, and likewise all gems and seeds of medicinal plants,
सक्षीराणां च वृक्षाणां प्ररोहान् कुसुमानि च। शुक्लानि चैव वस्त्राणि श्वेतं चैवानुलेपनम्
sprouts and flowers from milk-bearing trees, pure white garments, and white unguents,
अक्षतं जातरूपं च प्रियङ्गुं मधुसर्पिषी। दधि चर्म च वैयाघ्रं परार्घ्यौ चाप्युपानहौ
unbroken rice, gold, fragrant priyaṅgu, honey mixed with clarified butter, curds, a tiger skin, and two valuable sandals,
समालम्भनमादाय गोरोचनमनःशिलाम्। आजग्मुस्तत्र मुदिता वराः कन्याश्च षोडश
taking the ceremonial thread, yellow pigment, and manahshila, the delighted noble maidens, sixteen in number, arrived there.
ततस्ते वानरश्रेष्ठमभिषेक्तुं यथाविधि। रत्नैर्वस्त्रैश्च भक्ष्यैश्च तोषयित्वा द्विजर्षभान्
Then, to anoint the foremost monkey according to tradition, after satisfying the eminent Brahmins with gems, garments, and food,
ततः कुशपरिस्तीर्णं समिद्धं जातवेदसम्। मन्त्रपूतेन हविषा हुत्वा मन्त्रविदो जनाः
then, on a place strewn with sacred grass and with the fire kindled, the ritual experts, after offering oblations purified by mantras,
ततो हेमप्रतिष्ठाने वरास्तरणसंवृते। प्रासादशिखरे रम्ये चित्रमाल्योपशोभिते
afterwards, on a golden platform covered with splendid bedding, atop a beautiful palace adorned with varied garlands,
प्राङ्मुखं विधिवन्मन्त्रैः स्थापयित्वा वरासने। नदीनदेभ्यः संहृत्य तीर्थेभ्यश्च समन्ततः
having seated him facing east on a splendid throne according to ritual and mantras, gathering water from rivers and lakes all around,
आहृत्य च समुद्रेभ्यः सर्वेभ्यो वानरर्षभाः। अपः कनककुम्भेषु निधाय विमलं जलम्
and having fetched water from all the seas, the foremost monkeys placed pure water in golden vessels,
शुभैर्ऋषभशृङ्गैश्च कलशैश्चैव काञ्चनैः। शास्त्रदृष्टेन विधिना महर्षिविहितेन च
with auspicious bull-horned pitchers and golden pots, according to the method prescribed in scripture and established by great sages,
गजो गवाक्षो गवयः शरभो गन्धमादनः। मैन्दश्च द्विविदश्चैव हनूमाञ्जाम्बवांस्तथा
Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Sharabha, Gandhamadana, Mainda, Dvivida, Hanuman, and Jambavan,
अभ्यषिञ्चत सुग्रीवं प्रसन्नेन सुगन्धिना। सलिलेन सहस्राक्षं वसवो वासवं यथा
anointed Sugriva with pleasing, fragrant water, as the Vasus anointed Indra with a thousand eyes.
अभिषिक्ते तु सुग्रीवे सर्वे वानरपुङ्गवाः। प्रचुक्रुशुर्महात्मानो हृष्टाः शतसहस्रशः
When Sugriva had been anointed, all the foremost monkeys, great-souled and delighted, shouted in their hundreds of thousands.
रामस्य तु वचः कुर्वन् सुग्रीवो वानरेश्वरः। अङ्गदं सम्परिष्वज्य यौवराज्येऽभ्यषेचयत्
Sugriva, lord of the monkeys, acting on Rama's word, embraced Angada and anointed him as crown prince.
अङ्गदे चाभिषिक्ते तु सानुक्रोशाः प्लवंगमाः। साधु साध्विति सुग्रीवं महात्मानो ह्यपूजयन्
When Angada had been anointed, the compassionate vanaras, the great souls, honored Sugriva, praising him with 'Well done, well done.'
रामं चैव महात्मानं लक्ष्मणं च पुनः पुनः। प्रीताश्च तुष्टुवुः सर्वे तादृशे तत्र वर्तिनि
And again and again, all those present joyfully praised Rama, the great soul, and Lakshmana, in that gathering.
हृष्टपुष्टजनाकीर्णा पताकाध्वजशोभिता। बभूव नगरी रम्या किष्किन्धा गिरिगह्वरे
The delightful city of Kishkindha, nestled in the mountain cave, became filled with joyful and prosperous people, adorned with banners and flags.
निवेद्य रामाय तदा महात्मने महाभिषेकं कपिवाहिनीपतिः। रुमां च भार्यामुपलभ्य वीर्यवा- नवाप राज्यं त्रिदशाधिपो यथा
Then, having reported the great consecration to Rama, the great soul, the leader of the vanaras, having regained his wife Ruma, attained the kingdom like the lord of the gods.

When Sugriva had been anointed and the vanaras entered the cave, Rama, together with his brother, went to Mount Prasravana.
शार्दूलमृगसंघुष्टं सिंहैर्भीमरवैर्वृतम्। नानागुल्मलतागूढं बहुपादपसंकुलम्
It was filled with the sounds of tigers and deer, surrounded by lions with terrifying roars, concealed by various shrubs and creepers, and crowded with many trees.
ऋक्षवानरगोपुच्छैर्मार्जारैश्च निषेवितम्। मेघराशिनिभं शैलं नित्यं शुचिकरं शिवम्
It was frequented by bears, vanaras with tails, and cats; the mountain, resembling a mass of clouds, was always pure and auspicious.
तस्य शैलस्य शिखरे महतीमायतां गुहाम्। प्रत्यगृह्णीत वासार्थं रामः सौमित्रिणा सह
On the summit of that mountain, Rama, together with Saumitri, took up residence in a great, spacious cave.
कृत्वा च समयं रामः सुग्रीवेण सहानघः। कालयुक्तं महद्वाक्यमुवाच रघुनन्दनः
Having made an agreement with Sugriva, Rama, the sinless descendant of Raghu, spoke a timely and significant word.
विनीतं भ्रातरं भ्राता लक्ष्मणं लक्ष्मिवर्धनम्। इयं गिरिगुहा रम्या विशाला युक्तमारुता
Brother, Lakshmana, enhancer of prosperity, this mountain cave is delightful, spacious, and well-ventilated.
अस्यां वत्स्याम सौमित्रे वर्षरात्रमरिंदम। गिरिशृङ्गमिदं रम्यमुत्तमं पार्थिवात्मज
Here, O Saumitri, subduer of enemies, we shall dwell for the rainy season; this beautiful mountain peak is excellent, O prince.
श्वेताभिः कृष्णताम्राभिः शिलाभिरुपशोभितम्। नानाधातुसमाकीर्णं नदीदर्दुरसंयुतम्
Adorned with white, black, and copper-colored rocks, filled with various minerals, and accompanied by rivers and frogs.
