'Let the heroic one, having entered as prescribed, be quickly consecrated in the kingdom.' Having thus spoken to Hanumān, Rāma addressed Sugrīva—
'Knowing conduct, endowed with good conduct, noble in strength and valor—consecrate this heroic Aṅgada also as crown prince.'
'For the eldest son of the eldest, equal in valor, is this Aṅgada, undaunted in spirit, worthy of the office of crown prince.'
'This is the first month of the rainy season, Śrāvaṇa, when the waters arrive; the four months called the rainy season have begun, gentle one.'
'This is not the time for action; enter the auspicious city. I shall remain on this mountain, gentle one, together with Lakṣmaṇa.'
'This delightful, spacious mountain cave is filled with pleasant breezes, abundant waters, and many lotuses and water-lilies, gentle one.'
'When Kārtika arrives, then, for the slaying of Rāvaṇa, this is our agreement, gentle one; you should enter your own abode.'
'Consecrate yourself in the kingdom and gladden your friends.' Thus permitted by Rāma, Sugrīva, the foremost of Vānaras—
Entered the delightful city of Kiṣkindhā, once ruled by Vāli; thousands of Vānaras followed their lord as he entered.
Having surrounded the lord of the monkeys from all sides, all the chiefs, upon seeing the leader of the monkey hosts,
bowed their heads and fell to the earth with concentration; Sugriva, strong in valor, addressed all the chiefs and raised them up.
The mighty Sugriva entered the pleasant inner quarters of his brother; the heroic, formidable Sugriva, the foremost among monkeys, entered.
His friends anointed him, like the immortals anointing Indra; for him they brought a pale parasol adorned with gold.
White fly-whisks with golden handles, famed for their glory, and likewise all gems and seeds of medicinal plants,
sprouts and flowers from milk-bearing trees, pure white garments, and white unguents,
unbroken rice, gold, fragrant priyaṅgu, honey mixed with clarified butter, curds, a tiger skin, and two valuable sandals,
taking the ceremonial thread, yellow pigment, and manahshila, the delighted noble maidens, sixteen in number, arrived there.
Then, to anoint the foremost monkey according to tradition, after satisfying the eminent Brahmins with gems, garments, and food,
then, on a place strewn with sacred grass and with the fire kindled, the ritual experts, after offering oblations purified by mantras,
afterwards, on a golden platform covered with splendid bedding, atop a beautiful palace adorned with varied garlands,
having seated him facing east on a splendid throne according to ritual and mantras, gathering water from rivers and lakes all around,
and having fetched water from all the seas, the foremost monkeys placed pure water in golden vessels,
with auspicious bull-horned pitchers and golden pots, according to the method prescribed in scripture and established by great sages,
Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Sharabha, Gandhamadana, Mainda, Dvivida, Hanuman, and Jambavan,
anointed Sugriva with pleasing, fragrant water, as the Vasus anointed Indra with a thousand eyes.
When Sugriva had been anointed, all the foremost monkeys, great-souled and delighted, shouted in their hundreds of thousands.
Sugriva, lord of the monkeys, acting on Rama's word, embraced Angada and anointed him as crown prince.
When Angada had been anointed, the compassionate vanaras, the great souls, honored Sugriva, praising him with 'Well done, well done.'
And again and again, all those present joyfully praised Rama, the great soul, and Lakshmana, in that gathering.
The delightful city of Kishkindha, nestled in the mountain cave, became filled with joyful and prosperous people, adorned with banners and flags.
