In a time of great reverence and spiritual significance, a valiant sage named Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, son of Vibhāṇḍaka, approached a tranquil place, his heart filled with contemplation. The following day, as he arrived, he was greeted by a gathering of charming, well-adorned women whose hearts danced with joy at the sight of him. With warmth and grace, they invited him to their hermitage, speaking of the wondrous roots and fruits that flourished there, hinting at a special destiny awaiting him in that sacred space. Enchanted by their heartfelt words, Ṛṣyaśṛṅga resolved to follow them, and as he was led away, the heavens opened, showering the earth with rain, a divine blessing that delighted all. As the great sage entered the hermitage, the local king, eager to honor this esteemed guest, approached him with utmost humility, bowing his head to the ground in reverence. He offered water, a gesture of hospitality, earnestly seeking the sage's favor, hoping to dispel any hint of displeasure. With a tranquil heart, the king welcomed Ṛṣyaśṛṅga into his inner chambers and bestowed upon him his beloved daughter, Śāntā, thus finding joy in the union of their fates. Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, radiant and noble, dwelled there, honored and fulfilled alongside his new wife, Śāntā. In another realm, the wise deity spoke to a king, revealing the lineage of Ikṣvāku, where a righteous ruler named Daśaratha would emerge, renowned for his truthfulness. This king, destined to forge a bond with the king of Aṅga, would have a fortunate daughter named Śāntā. The son of King Aṅga, known as Romapāda, would become a pivotal figure in this unfolding tale. Stricken by childlessness, King Daśaratha sought the sage's guidance, hoping that Śāntā’s husband could perform a sacred sacrifice to ensure progeny and the continuation of his lineage. As the king reflected on the sage's words, he resolved to honor the request, knowing that through this act, he would find relief from his anxieties and joy in his heart. With joined palms, King Daśaratha chose Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, the foremost Brahmin and knower of righteousness, to lead the sacrifice, believing that through him, his desires for progeny and glory would be fulfilled. In return, the sage would bless him with four sons of immeasurable valor, destined to establish a lineage renowned throughout the realms. Delighted by the counsel of his charioteer, Sumantra, and the sage Vasishta, King Daśaratha prepared to journey to the sage's abode, accompanied by his ministers and an entourage, traversing forests and rivers with purpose. Upon reaching the sacred place where Ṛṣyaśṛṅga resided, the king beheld the sage’s son, whose brilliance shone like fire. In a display of respect, he honored Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, and through the bonds of friendship and kinship with Romapāda, the sage was warmly received. Days passed, and the king, filled with purpose, spoke to Romapāda about his daughter Śāntā, urging that she be brought to his city for the great task ahead. With the king’s agreement, Ṛṣyaśṛṅga prepared to depart with his wife, both of them embracing each other with affection before setting forth. King Daśaratha and Romapāda rejoiced at this union, and the king, bidding farewell to his dear friend, returned to his city. In anticipation of their arrival, King Daśaratha sent swift messengers throughout the land, instructing them to adorn the entire city splendidly. The citizens, hearing of the king's return, rejoiced and prepared with great enthusiasm, perfuming the air, cleaning the streets, and raising flags in celebration. As the king entered the beautifully decorated city, the sounds of conches and drums filled the air, heralding the presence of the foremost Brahmin. The citizens, witnessing Ṛṣyaśṛṅga’s arrival, were filled with delight, honoring him as he was brought in with the might and grace befitting a divine guest. After performing the prescribed worship in the inner chambers, King Daśaratha felt a profound sense of fulfillment, having welcomed Ṛṣyaśṛṅga into his home. As the queen, filled with joy and happiness, beheld the peacefulness of the inner apartments, the atmosphere resonated with the promise of new beginnings, woven together by the threads of destiny and devotion.
