Then, the radiance of the great-souled one returned; he took a beautiful lotus as an ornament and a single earring.

Lakṣmī gave him a garland of unfading lotuses sent by Varuṇa, as well as garments as blue as the ocean.

Adorned with the lotus ornament and a beautiful earring, wearing blue garments, Balarāma shone with splendor.

Thus adorned, Rāma enjoyed himself there in Vraja; after a month had passed, he returned again to the city of Dvārakā.

Bhīṣmaka was king in Kuṇḍina, in the land of Vidarbha; his son was Rukmī, and his daughter was the illustrious Rukmiṇī.
रुक्मिणी चकमे कृष्णः सा च तं चारुहासिनी । नि ददौ याचते चैनां रुक्मी द्रेषेण चक्रिणो ।। ५-२६-
Rukmiṇī desired Kṛṣṇa, and he desired her, the lovely-smiling one; but Rukmī, out of enmity, did not give her to him, though she was sought.

Instead, Bhīṣmaka, together with Rukmī, gave Rukmiṇī, the heroic maiden, to Śiśupāla, as directed by Jarāsandha.
विवाहार्थं ततः सर्व्वे जरासन्धमुखा नृपाः । भीष्मकस्य पुरं जग्मुः शिशुपालप्रियैषिणः ।। ५-२६-
Then, for the wedding, all the kings led by Jarāsandha, desiring to please Śiśupāla, went to Bhīṣmaka's city.

Kṛṣṇa, accompanied by Balarāma and many other Yādavas, also went to Kuṇḍina to witness the wedding of the king.

At the splendid wedding, Hari seized the maiden, placing the burden of opposition upon Rāma and the other kinsmen.

Angry, they prepared the best battle to kill Hari; but, defeated, they gathered with Rāma and the foremost Yādavas.

Rukmī vowed, 'I will not enter Kuṇḍina without first killing Keśava in battle,' and rushed to slay Kṛṣṇa.

Having slain Bala, whose army was filled with elephants, horses, infantry, and chariots, Rukmī was defeated and cast to the ground by Kṛṣṇa with ease.

Kṛṣṇa, intent on killing Rukmī, who was arrogant in battle, was entreated by Rukmiṇī, O brāhmaṇa, and Hari spared him.

Thus addressed by Krishna, whose deeds are pure, Rukmi was abandoned and then dwelled in a city called Bhojakaṭa.

Having thoroughly defeated Rukmi, Madhusudana married Rukmini, who had come to him through a rākṣasa-style wedding.

From her was born Pradyumna, a portion of the god of love, mighty in valor; he was carried off by Shambara, whom he later slew.

Parāśara said: On the sixth day after his birth, Pradyumna was taken from the lying-in chamber by Kālaśambara, who thought, 'I must kill him.'

After seizing him, Kālaśambara cast him into the fierce, salty ocean, into the dreadful domain of sea-monsters, where the waves create terrifying whirlpools.

There, a single fish swallowed the boy as he fell, but even in its belly, inflamed by digestive fire, he did not die.

That fish, caught together with other fish by fishermen, was killed and presented to the great asura Shambara.

Filled with wonder, she thought, 'Who is this, and how has he come into the fish's belly?' At that moment, the slender woman was addressed by Nārada.

This is Krishna's son, taken from the lying-in chamber by Shambara, the destroyer of offspring throughout the worlds.

Thrown into the ocean, swallowed by a fish, he has come under your care. O beautiful-browed one, confidently protect this boy.
