येनाग्रिविद्यु दूरविरश्मिमाला करालमत्युग्रनानां नयनाञ्जनानि ।। ५-१७-
By whom, like a flash of lightning, the fierce, terrifying, many-colored streaks of rays are cast afar, blackening the eyes of the wicked.
यत्राम्बु विन्यस्य बलिर्म्मनोज्ञा नवाप भोगान् वसुधातलस्थः । तथामरत्वं त्रिदशाधिपत्यं मन्वन्तरं पूर्णमपेतशत्रुः ।। ५-१७-
On whom Bali, placing water, obtained delightful enjoyments while dwelling on earth, and thus attained immortality, lordship over the gods, and a full Manvantara, free from enemies.
अप्येष मां कंसपरिग्रहेण दोषास्पदीभूतमदोषदुष्टम् । कर्त्तावमानोपहतं धिगस्तु तज्जन्मनः साधुबहिष्कृतं यत् ।। ५-१७-
Will he, though I have become a receptacle of faults through association with Kamsa, and am fallen and despised by the good, still accept me, who am stricken by dishonor?
ज्ञानात्मकस्यामलसत्त्वराशेरपेतदोषस्य सदा स्फुटस्य किं वा जगत्यत्र समस्तपुंसामज्ञातमस्यास्ति ह्टदि स्थितस्य ।। ५-१७-
What in this world is unknown to him, who is the embodiment of knowledge, a mass of pure existence, ever manifest, free from all faults, and abiding in the hearts of all beings?
तस्मादहं भक्तिविनम्रचेता व्रजामि सर्व्वेश्वरमीश्वराणाम् । अंशावतारं पुरुषोत्तमस्य अनादिमध्यान्तमयस्य विष्णोः ।। ५-१७-
Therefore, with a mind humbled by devotion, I approach the Lord of all lords, the portion of the Supreme Person, Vishnu, who is without beginning, middle, or end.
चिन्तयन्निति गोविन्दमुपागम्य स यादवः । अक्रूरोऽस्मीति चरणौ ननाम शिरसा हरेः ।। ५-१८-
Thinking thus, that Yadava approached Govinda; 'I am Akrura,' he said, and bowed his head to the feet of Hari.
सोऽप्येनं ध्वजवज्राब्ज-कृतचिह्नने पाणिना । संस्पृश्याकृष्य च प्रीत्या सुगाढं परिषस्वजे ।। ५-१८-
He, whose hands bore the marks of the banner, thunderbolt, and lotus, touched him, drew him close with affection, and embraced him tightly.
कृतसंवादनौ तेन यथावदू बल-केशवौ । ततः प्रविष्टौ संह्टष्टौ तमादायात्ममन्दिरम् ।। ५-१८-
Having exchanged proper greetings with him, Bala and Keshava took him and entered their own house together.
सह ताभ्यां तदाक्रूरः कृतसंवादनादिकः । भुक्तभोज्यो यथान्यायमाचचक्षे ततस्तयोः ।। ५-१८-
Then Akrura, after exchanging greetings and the like with them, ate as was proper, and afterwards related to them everything.
यथा निर्भर्तूस्यते तेन कसेनानकदुन्दुभिः । यथा च देवकी देवी दानवेन दुरात्मना ।। ५-१८-
He told how Kamsa, son of Ugrasena, oppresses them, and how the goddess Devaki is tormented by that evil-natured demon.
उग्रसेने यथा कंसः सुदुरात्मा च वर्त्तते। यं चैवार्थं समुद्दिश्य स ससेन विसर्ज्जितः ।। ५-१८-
He described how wicked Kamsa behaves towards Ugrasena, and for what purpose he, along with his army, was sent away.
तत् सर्व्वं विस्तराच्छ्रु त्वा भगवान् केशिसूदनः । उवाचाखिलमप्येतजूज्ञातं दानपते!मया ।। ५-१८-
All this, in detail, was heard by the blessed slayer of Keshi, who said, 'All this, O lord of gifts, is already known to me.'
करिष्ये च महाभाग!यदत्रौपयिकं मतम् । विचिन्त्यं नान्यथैतत् ते विद्धि कंसं हतं मया ।। ५-१८-
'I will do, O illustrious one, whatever is appropriate in this matter; know for certain that Kamsa will be slain by me—there is no other way.'
अहं रामश्व मथुरा श्वो यास्यावः समं त्वया । गोपवृद्धाश्व यास्यन्ति आदायोपायनं बहु ।। ५-१८-
'Tomorrow, O Rama, we shall go to Mathura together with you; the elders among the cowherds will also go, bringing many gifts.'
निशेयं नीयतां वीर!न चिन्तां कर्त्तुमर्हसि । त्रिरात्राभ्यन्तरे कंसं हनिष्यामि सहानुगम ।। ५-१८-
'Rest tonight, O hero; you should not worry. Within three nights, I will slay Kamsa along with his followers.'
समादिश्य ततो गोपानक्रु रोऽपि सकेशवः । सुष्वाप बलभद्रश्व नन्दगोपगृहे सुखम् ।। ५-१८-
Then, after instructing the cowherds, Akrura and Keshava, along with Balabhadra, slept happily in the house of Nanda the cowherd.
ततः प्रभाते विमले कृष्ण-रामौ महामती । अक्रूरेण समं गन्तुमुद्यतौ मथुरां प्रित ।। ५-१८-
Then, at dawn, when the day was clear, the wise Krishna and Rama, together with Akrura, prepared joyfully to go to Mathura.
दृष्ट्वा गोपीजनः सास्त्रः श्लथदूवलयबाहुकः । निः श्वस्य चातिदुः खार्त्तः प्राह चेदं परस्परम् ।। ५-१८-
Seeing this, the cowherd women, with loosened bracelets and arms, sighed deeply in great distress and spoke these words to each other.
मथुरां प्राप्य गोविन्दः कथं गोकुलमेष्यति । नागरस्त्री-कलालापमधु श्रोत्रेण पास्यति ।। ५-१८-
'When Govinda reaches Mathura, how will he return to Gokula? He will drink with his ears the honeyed words of the city women.'
विलासिवाक्यपानेषु नागरीणां कृतास्पदम् । चित्तमस्य कथ भूयो ग्राम्यगोपीषु यास्यति ।। ५-१८-
'Once his mind has become the abode of the playful words of the city women, how will it again turn to the village cowherd girls?'
सारं समस्तगोष्ठस्य विधिना हरता हरिम् । प्रह्टतं गोपयोषितूसु निर्गुणेन दुरात्मना ।। ५-१८-
'By fate, Hari, the essence of the whole cowherd settlement, is being taken away, and the cowherd women are being abandoned by a heartless, wicked one.'
भावगर्भस्मितं वाक्यं विलासललिता गतिः । नागरीणामतीवैतत् कटाक्षैक्षितमेव च ।। ५-१८-
'The words filled with hidden meaning, the graceful and charming gait, and the sidelong glances of the city women are truly extraordinary.'
ग्राम्यो हरिरयं तासां विलासनिगड़ैर्युतः । भवतीनां पुनः पाश्व कया युत्तया समेष्यति ।। ५-१८-
'This Hari of the village, adorned with playful charms, by which one of you will he again come near?'
एषैष रथमारुह्य मथुरां याति केशवः । क्रूरेणाक्रू रकेणात्र निराशेन प्रतारितः ।। ५-१८-
'Now Keshava mounts the chariot and goes to Mathura, deceived here by the cruel Akrura, who is without hope.'
किं न वेत्ति नृशंसोऽत्र अनुरागपरं जनम् । येनेममक्ष्णोराह्लादं नयत्यन्यत्र नो हरिम् ।। ५-१८-
'Does this heartless one not know how devoted the people here are, that he takes Hari, who delights our eyes, away elsewhere?'
एश रामेण सहितः प्रयात्यत्यन्तनिर्घृणः । रथमारुह्य गोविन्दस्त्वर्य्यतामस्य वारणो ।। ५-१८-
'This utterly merciless Govinda departs together with Rama, mounting the chariot; let someone stop him quickly.'
गुरूणामग्रतो वक्तुं किं ब्रवपीषि न नः क्षमम् । गुरवः किं करिष्यन्ति दग्धानां विरहाग्रिना ।। ५-१८-
Why do you wish to speak before our elders? It is not proper for us. What can elders do for those who are already burned by the fire of separation?
नन्दगोपमुखा गोपा गन्तुमेते समुद्यताः । नोद्यमं कुरुते कश्विदू गोविन्दविनिवर्त्तने ।। ५-१८-
The cowherds, led by Nanda, are ready to depart; yet no one makes any effort to bring Govinda back.
सुप्रभाताद्य रजनी मथुरावासियोषिताम् । पास्यन्त्यच्युतवक्ताब्जां यासां नेत्रालिपङूक्तयः ।। ५-१८-
Today, the night has passed beautifully for the women of Mathura, whose eyes, adorned with collyrium, will drink in the lotus face of Acyuta.
धन्यास्ते पथि ये कृष्णामितो यान्त्यनिवारिताः । उदूहिष्यन्ति पश्यन्तः स्वदेहं पुलकाञ्चितम् ।। ५-१८-
Blessed are those who go unhindered on the path with Krishna; seeing him, their bodies will be covered with goosebumps.
