सर्व्वात्मा सर्व्ववित् सर्व्वः सर्व्वभूतेष्ववस्थितः । यो वितत्यात्ययो व्यापी स वक्ष्यति मया सह ।। ५-१७-
He who is the soul of all, who knows all, who is all, who dwells in all beings, who pervades and extends beyond everything—he will speak with me.
मत्स्य-कूर्म-पराहा-श्व-सिंहरूपादिभिः स्थितिम् । चकार जगतो योऽजः सोऽद्य मामालपिष्यति ।। ५-१७-
He who, in the forms of fish, tortoise, boar, horse, lion, and others, has preserved the world, the unborn one—today he will converse with me.
साम्प्रतञ्च जगत्स्वामी कार्य्यमात्मह्टदि स्थितम् । कर्त्तु मनुष्यतां प्राप्तः स्वेच्छादेहधृगव्ययः ।। ५-१७-
Now, the Lord of the world, having assumed humanity by his own will, has taken a body for the sake of his work, remaining unchanged.
योऽनन्तः पृथिवीं धत्ते शेखरस्थितिसंस्थिताम् । सोऽवतीर्णो जगत्यर्थे मामक्रूरेति वक्ष्यति ।। ५-१७-
He who is infinite, who supports the earth in its established position, has descended for the sake of the world; he will address me as 'Akrura.'
पितृ-पुत्र-सुह्टदू-भ्रातृ-मातृ-बन्धुमयीमिमाम् । यन्मायां नालमुत्तर्त्तु जगत् नमो नमः ।। ५-१७-
This illusion, composed of father, son, friend, brother, mother, and kin, cannot be overcome by the world; I bow again and again.
तरत्यविद्यां विततां ह्टदि यस्मिन् निवेशिते । योगी मायाममेयाय तस्मै विद्यात्मने नमः ।। ५-१७-
He in whom, when the mind is placed, one crosses the vast ignorance—salutations to that immeasurable yogi, the embodiment of knowledge.
यज्विभिर्यज्ञपुरुषो वासुदेवश्व सात्वतैः । वेदान्तवेदिभिर्विष्णुः प्रोच्यते यो नतोऽस्मि तम् ।। ५-१७-
He who is called the Purusha of sacrifice by sacrificers, Vāsudeva by the Sātvatas, and Vishnu by those who know the Vedanta—I bow to him.
यथा तत्र जगद्धाम्रि धातर्य्योतत् प्रतिष्ठितम् । सदसत् तेन सत्येन मय्यसौ यातु सौम्यताम् ।। ५-१७-
Just as the abode of the world is established in that foundation, the existent and non-existent rest upon that truth—may he show me kindness.
स्मृते सकलकल्याण-भाजनं यत्र जायते । पुरुषस्तमजं नित्यं व्रजामि शरणं हरिम् ।। ५-१७-
Where remembrance brings all auspiciousness, to that eternal, unborn Purusha, Hari, I go for refuge.
इत्थं सञ्चिन्तयन् विष्णु भक्तिनम्रात्ममानसः । अक्रूरो गोकुल प्राप्तः किञ्चित् सूर्य्ये विराजति ।। ५-१७-
Thus contemplating Vishnu with a mind humbled in devotion, Akrura arrived at Gokula as the sun was beginning to shine.
स ददर्श तदा तत्र कृष्णामादोहने गवाम् । वत्समध्यगतं फुल्लनीलोतूपलदलच्छविम् ।। ५-१७-
Then he saw Krishna there, among the cows at milking time, standing amidst the calves, his complexion like a blossoming blue lotus petal.
अस्पष्टपद्मपत्राक्षं श्रीवत्साङ्कितवक्षसम । प्रलम्बबाहुमायामि-तुङ्गोरःस्थलमुन्नसम् ।। ५-१७-
His eyes, indistinct like lotus petals, his chest marked with the Srivatsa, his long arms reaching down, his broad chest prominent and elevated.
सविलासस्मिताधारं ब्रिभ्राणं मुखपङ्कजम् । तुङ्गरक्तनखं पद्भयां धरण्यां सुप्रतिष्ठितम् ।। ५-१७-
His lotus-like face bore a charming smile, his feet, with high, red nails, were firmly planted on the earth.
विभ्राणं वाससी पीते वन्यपुष्पावभूषितम् । साद्रनीललताहस्तं सिताम्भोजावतंसकम् ।। ५-१७-
He wore yellow garments, adorned with forest flowers, a blue creeper in his hand, and a white lotus as an ornament.
हंसकुन्देन्दुधवल नीलाम्बरधरं द्रिज! तस्यानु बलभद्रञ्च ददर्श यदुनन्दनम् ।। ५-१७-
O Brahmin, he was clad in garments white as swans, jasmine, and the moon, and also in blue cloth; near him, he saw Balabhadra, the delight of the Yadus.
प्राशुमुन्नतबाह्व सं विकाशिमुखपङ्कजम् । मेघमालापरिवृतं कैलासद्रिमिवापरम् ।। ५-१७-
With arms raised high and a radiant lotus-like face, he was surrounded by a garland of clouds, like another Mount Kailasa.
तौ दृष्ट्वा विकसदूक्तसरोजः स महामतिः । पुलकाञ्चितसर्व्वाङ्गस्तदाक्रू रोऽभवन्मुने ।। ५-१७-
Seeing those two, his heart blossomed like a lotus at sunrise; his whole body thrilled, and he became overwhelmed, O sage.
एतत् तत् परमं घाम तदेतत् परमं पदम् । भगवद्रासुदेवांशो द्रिधा योऽयमवस्थितः ।। ५-१७-
This indeed is the supreme light, this is the highest state, where the portion of the blessed Vasudeva stands firm.
साफल्यमक्ष्णोर्युगमेतदत्र दृष्टे जगद्धातरि यातमुच्चेः । अप्यङ्गमेतदू भगवतूप्रसादांदू दत्तेऽङ्गसङ्ग फलवन्मम स्यात ।। ५-१७-
This pair of eyes has attained its purpose, having seen the sustainer of the universe here; may my body, by the grace of the Blessed One, also gain the fruit of contact with his limbs.
अप्येष पूष्ठे मम हस्तपद्म करिष्यति श्रीमदनन्तमूर्त्तिः । यस्याङ्ग लिस्पर्शहताखिलाघैखाप्यते सिद्धिरनाशदोषा ।। ५-१७-
Will this glorious, infinite form touch my back with his lotus hand, by whose mere touch all sins are destroyed and perfection, free from decay, is attained?
येनाग्रिविद्यु दूरविरश्मिमाला करालमत्युग्रनानां नयनाञ्जनानि ।। ५-१७-
By whom, like a flash of lightning, the fierce, terrifying, many-colored streaks of rays are cast afar, blackening the eyes of the wicked.
यत्राम्बु विन्यस्य बलिर्म्मनोज्ञा नवाप भोगान् वसुधातलस्थः । तथामरत्वं त्रिदशाधिपत्यं मन्वन्तरं पूर्णमपेतशत्रुः ।। ५-१७-
On whom Bali, placing water, obtained delightful enjoyments while dwelling on earth, and thus attained immortality, lordship over the gods, and a full Manvantara, free from enemies.
अप्येष मां कंसपरिग्रहेण दोषास्पदीभूतमदोषदुष्टम् । कर्त्तावमानोपहतं धिगस्तु तज्जन्मनः साधुबहिष्कृतं यत् ।। ५-१७-
Will he, though I have become a receptacle of faults through association with Kamsa, and am fallen and despised by the good, still accept me, who am stricken by dishonor?
ज्ञानात्मकस्यामलसत्त्वराशेरपेतदोषस्य सदा स्फुटस्य किं वा जगत्यत्र समस्तपुंसामज्ञातमस्यास्ति ह्टदि स्थितस्य ।। ५-१७-
What in this world is unknown to him, who is the embodiment of knowledge, a mass of pure existence, ever manifest, free from all faults, and abiding in the hearts of all beings?
तस्मादहं भक्तिविनम्रचेता व्रजामि सर्व्वेश्वरमीश्वराणाम् । अंशावतारं पुरुषोत्तमस्य अनादिमध्यान्तमयस्य विष्णोः ।। ५-१७-
Therefore, with a mind humbled by devotion, I approach the Lord of all lords, the portion of the Supreme Person, Vishnu, who is without beginning, middle, or end.
चिन्तयन्निति गोविन्दमुपागम्य स यादवः । अक्रूरोऽस्मीति चरणौ ननाम शिरसा हरेः ।। ५-१८-
Thinking thus, that Yadava approached Govinda; 'I am Akrura,' he said, and bowed his head to the feet of Hari.
सोऽप्येनं ध्वजवज्राब्ज-कृतचिह्नने पाणिना । संस्पृश्याकृष्य च प्रीत्या सुगाढं परिषस्वजे ।। ५-१८-
He, whose hands bore the marks of the banner, thunderbolt, and lotus, touched him, drew him close with affection, and embraced him tightly.
कृतसंवादनौ तेन यथावदू बल-केशवौ । ततः प्रविष्टौ संह्टष्टौ तमादायात्ममन्दिरम् ।। ५-१८-
Having exchanged proper greetings with him, Bala and Keshava took him and entered their own house together.
सह ताभ्यां तदाक्रूरः कृतसंवादनादिकः । भुक्तभोज्यो यथान्यायमाचचक्षे ततस्तयोः ।। ५-१८-
Then Akrura, after exchanging greetings and the like with them, ate as was proper, and afterwards related to them everything.
यथा निर्भर्तूस्यते तेन कसेनानकदुन्दुभिः । यथा च देवकी देवी दानवेन दुरात्मना ।। ५-१८-
He told how Kamsa, son of Ugrasena, oppresses them, and how the goddess Devaki is tormented by that evil-natured demon.
