शतानंदात्सत्यधृतिर्धनुर्वेदान्तगो जज्ञे
From Śatānanda was born Satyadhṛti, who mastered the end of the science of archery.
सत्यधृतेर्वराप्सरसमुर्वशीं दृष्ट्वा रेतस्कन्नं शरस्तंबे पपात
Satyadhṛti, seeing the excellent apsaras Urvaśī, emitted semen, which fell upon a shaft of reed.
तच्च द्विधागतमपत्यद्वयं कुमारः कन्या चाभवत्
That, having split in two, became two offspring—a boy and a girl.
तौ च मृगयामुपयातश्शंतनुर्दृष्ट्वा कृपया जग्राह
When they had come to the forest, Śaṃtanu saw them and, moved by compassion, took them up.
ततः कुमारः कृपः कन्या चाश्वत्थाम्नो जननी कृपी द्रो णाचार्यस्य पत्न्यभवत्
Then, the son was Kṛpa, and the daughter, Kṛpī, who became the wife of Droṇa, the teacher, and the mother of Aśvatthāman.
दिवोदासस्य पुत्रो मित्रायुः
Divodāsa's son was Mitrāyu.
मित्रायोश्च्यवनो नाम राजा
Mitrāyu had a son named Cyavana, who was a king.
च्यवनात्सुदासः सुदासात्सौदासः सौदासात्सहदेवस्तस्यापि सोमकः
From Cyavana came Sudāsa; from Sudāsa, Saudāsa; from Saudāsa, Sahadeva; from him, Somaka.
सोमकाज्जंतुः पुत्रशतज्येष्ठोऽभवत्
Somaka had a son named Jantu, who was the eldest among a hundred sons.
तेषां यवीयान् पृषतः पृषताद्द्रु पदस्तस्माच्च धृष्टद्युम्नस्ततो धृष्टकेतुः ७३ अजमीढस्यान्यो ऋक्षनामा पुत्रोऽभवत्
Among them, the youngest was Pṛṣata; from Pṛṣata came Drupada; from him, Dhṛṣṭadyumna; then Dhṛṣṭaketu; and another son of Ajamīḍha was named Ṛkṣa.
तस्य संवरणः
His son was Saṃvaraṇa.
संवरणात्कुरुः
From Saṃvaraṇa came Kuru.
य इदं धर्मक्षेत्रं कुरुक्षेत्रं चकार
He is the one who made this righteous field, Kurukṣetra.
सुधनुर्जह्नुपरीक्षित्प्रमुखाः कुरोः पुत्राः बभूवुः
Sudhanu, Jahnu, Parīkṣit, and others were the sons of Kuru.
सुधनुषः पुत्रस्सुहोत्रस्तस्माच्च्यवनः च्यवनात्कृतकः
Sudhanu's son was Suhotra; from him, Cyavana; from Cyavana, Kṛtaka.
ततश्चोपरिचरो वसुः
Then came Uparicara Vasu.
बृहद्र थप्रत्यग्रकुशांबकुचेलमात्स्यप्रमुखाः वसोः पुत्रास्सप्ताजायंत
Bṛhadratha, Pratyagra, Kuśāmba, Kuśela, Mātsya, and others—seven sons in all—were born to Vasu.
बृहद्र थात्कुशाग्रः कुशाग्राद्वृषभः वृषभात्पुष्पवान् तस्मात्सत्यहितः तस्मात्सुधन्वा तस्य च जतुः
From Bṛhadratha came Kuśāgra; from Kuśāgra, Vṛṣabha; from Vṛṣabha, Puṣpavān; from him, Satyahita; from him, Sudhanvā; and his son was Jatu.
बृंहद्र थाच्चान्यश्शकलद्वयजन्मा जरया संधितो जरासंधनामा
From Bṛhadratha also came another son, born of two halves, who was joined by a she-demon and was named Jarāsandha.
तस्मात्सहदेवस्सहदेवात्सोमपस्ततश्च श्रुतिश्रवाः
From him came Sahadeva; from Sahadeva, Somapi; then Śrutiśravā.
इत्येते मया मागधा भूपालाः कथिताः
Thus, I have recounted the kings of Magadha.
श्रीपराशर उवाच परीक्षितश्च जनमेजयश्रुतसेनोग्रसेनभीमसेनाश्चात्वारः पुत्राः ॥ ४,२०.
Śrī Parāśara said: Parīkṣit had four sons—Janamejaya, Śrutasena, Ugrasena, and Bhīmasena.
जह्नोस्तु सुरथोनामात्मजो बभूव ॥ ४,२०.
Jahnu's son was named Suratha.
तस्यापि विदूरथः ॥ ४,२०.
His son was Viduratha.
तस्मात्सार्वभोमःसार्वभौमाज्जयत्सेनस्तस्मादाराधितस्ततश्चायुतायुरयुतायोरक्रोधनः ॥ ४,२०.
From him came Sārvabhauma; from Sārvabhauma, Jayasena; from Jayasena, Ārādhita; from Ārādhita, Āyutāyu; from Āyutāyu, Akrodhana.
तस्माद्देवातिथिः ॥ ४,२०.
From him came Devātithi.
ततश्च ऋक्षोऽन्योभवत् ॥ ४,२०.
Then, Ṛkṣa was born from him.
ऋक्षाद्भीमसेनस्ततश्च दिलीपः ॥ ४,२०.
From Ṛkṣa came Bhīmasena, and then Dilīpa.
दिलीपात्प्रतीपः ॥ ४,२०.
From Dilīpa came Pratīpa.
तस्यापि देवापिशन्तनुबाह्लीकसंज्ञास्त्रयः पुत्रा बभूवुः ॥ ४,२०.
He had three sons: Devāpi, Śantanu, and Bāhlīka.
