यश्शुकदुहितरं कीर्त्तिं नामोपयेमे
He married Kīrtti, the daughter of Śuka.
अणुहाद्ब्रह्यदत्तः
From Aṇuha came Brahyadatta.
ततश्च विष्वक्सेनस्तस्मादुदक्सेनः
From him was Viṣvaksena, and from Viṣvaksena, Udaksena.
भल्लाभस्तस्य चात्मजः
Bhallābha was his son.
द्विजमीढस्य तु यवीनरसंज्ञः पुत्रः
A son of Dvijamīḍha was called Yavīnarasa.
तस्यापि धृतिमांस्तस्माच्च सत्यधृतिस्ततश्च दृढनेमिस्तस्माच्च सुपार्श्वस्ततस्सुमतिस्ततश्च सन्नतिमान्
His son was Dhṛtimān; from him came Satyadhṛti; from him, Dṛḍhanemi; from him, Supārśva; from him, Sumati; and from him, Sannatimān.
सन्नतिमतः कृतः पुत्रोऽभूत्
From Sannatimata, a son was born.
यं हिरण्यनाभो योगमध्यापयामास
Hiraṇyanābha taught him the practice of yoga.
यश्चतुर्विंशतिप्राच्यसामागानां संहिताश्चकार
He composed the collections of the twenty-four eastern Sāma melodies.
कृताच्चोग्रायुधः
From him was born Ugrāyudha.
येन प्राचुर्येण नीपक्षयः कृतः
By him, the destruction of the Nīpa lineage was accomplished in great measure.
उग्रायुधात्क्षेम्यः क्षेम्यात्सुधीरस्तस्माद्रि पुंजयः तस्माच्च बहुरथ इत्येते पौरवाः
From Ugrāyudha came Kṣemya; from Kṣemya, Sudhīra; from Sudhīra, Puṃjaya; and from him, Bahuratha—these are the Pauravas.
अजमीढस्य नलिनी नाम पत्नी तस्यां नीलसंज्ञः पुत्रोऽभवत्
Ajamīḍha's wife was named Nalinī, and in her was born a son named Nīla.
तस्मादपि शांतिः शांतेस्सुशांतिस्सुशांतेः पुरंजयः तस्माच्च ऋक्षः
From him came Śānti; from Śānti, Suśānti; from Suśānti, Puraṃjaya; and from him, Ṛkṣa.
ततश्च हर्यश्वः
Then from him was born Haryaśva.
तस्मान्मुद्गलसृंजयबृहदिषुयवीनरकांपिल्यसंज्ञाः पंचानामेव तेषां विषयाणां रक्षणायालमेते मत्पुत्रा इति पित्राभिहिताः पांचालाः
From him came Mudgala, Sṛṃjaya, Bṛhadiṣu, Yavīnaraka, and Kāmpilya—these five, for the protection of their respective domains, were declared by their father to be his sons, the Pāñcālas.
मुद्गलाच्च मौद्गल्याः क्षत्रोपेता द्विजातयो बभूवुः
From Mudgala, through a woman of the Maudgalya lineage, were born twice-borns endowed with kṣatriya qualities.
मुद्गलाद्धर्यश्वः
From Mudgala also came Haryaśva.
हर्यश्वाद्दिवोदासोऽहल्या च मिथुनमभूत्
From Haryaśva were born Divodāsa and Ahalyā as a pair.
शरद्वतश्चाहल्यायां शतानंदोऽभवत्
From Śaradvata and Ahalyā was born Śatānanda.
शतानंदात्सत्यधृतिर्धनुर्वेदान्तगो जज्ञे
From Śatānanda was born Satyadhṛti, who mastered the end of the science of archery.
सत्यधृतेर्वराप्सरसमुर्वशीं दृष्ट्वा रेतस्कन्नं शरस्तंबे पपात
Satyadhṛti, seeing the excellent apsaras Urvaśī, emitted semen, which fell upon a shaft of reed.
तच्च द्विधागतमपत्यद्वयं कुमारः कन्या चाभवत्
That, having split in two, became two offspring—a boy and a girl.
तौ च मृगयामुपयातश्शंतनुर्दृष्ट्वा कृपया जग्राह
When they had come to the forest, Śaṃtanu saw them and, moved by compassion, took them up.
ततः कुमारः कृपः कन्या चाश्वत्थाम्नो जननी कृपी द्रो णाचार्यस्य पत्न्यभवत्
Then, the son was Kṛpa, and the daughter, Kṛpī, who became the wife of Droṇa, the teacher, and the mother of Aśvatthāman.
दिवोदासस्य पुत्रो मित्रायुः
Divodāsa's son was Mitrāyu.
मित्रायोश्च्यवनो नाम राजा
Mitrāyu had a son named Cyavana, who was a king.
च्यवनात्सुदासः सुदासात्सौदासः सौदासात्सहदेवस्तस्यापि सोमकः
From Cyavana came Sudāsa; from Sudāsa, Saudāsa; from Saudāsa, Sahadeva; from him, Somaka.
सोमकाज्जंतुः पुत्रशतज्येष्ठोऽभवत्
Somaka had a son named Jantu, who was the eldest among a hundred sons.
तेषां यवीयान् पृषतः पृषताद्द्रु पदस्तस्माच्च धृष्टद्युम्नस्ततो धृष्टकेतुः ७३ अजमीढस्यान्यो ऋक्षनामा पुत्रोऽभवत्
Among them, the youngest was Pṛṣata; from Pṛṣata came Drupada; from him, Dhṛṣṭadyumna; then Dhṛṣṭaketu; and another son of Ajamīḍha was named Ṛkṣa.
