तस्यापि कृतवर्मशतधनुर्दवार्हदेवगर्भाद्याः पुत्रा बभूवुः ॥ ४,१४.
He too had sons: Kṛtavarmā, Śatadhanvan, Davārha, Devagarbha, and others.
देवगर्भस्यापि शुरः ॥ ४,१४.
Devagarbha also had a son named Śūra.
शुरस्यापि मारीषा नाम पत्न्यभवत् ॥ ४,१४.
Śūra had a wife named Mārīṣā.
तस्यां चासौ दशपुत्रानजनयद्वसुदेवरूर्वान् ॥ ४,१४.
In her, he begot ten sons, including Vasudeva and Ūrva.
वसुदेवस्य जातमात्रस्यैव तद्गृहे भगवदंशावतारमव्याहतदृष्ट्या पश्यद्भिर्देवैर्दिव्यानकदुन्दुभयो वादिताः ॥ ४,१४.
When Vasudeva was just born in that house, the gods, seeing with unobstructed vision the descent of the divine portion, sounded celestial drums and dundubhis.
ततश्चसावानकदुन्दुभिसंज्ञामवाप ॥ ४,१४.
Therefore, he received the name Ānakadundubhi.
तस्य च देवभागदेवश्रवाष्टकककुच्चक्रवत्सधारकसृंजयश्यामशमिकगञ्जूषसंज्ञा नव भ्रतरोऽभवन् ॥ ४,१४.
He had nine brothers: Devabhāga, Devaśravā, Aṣṭaka, Kakud, Cakravata, Sadhāraka, Sṛṃjaya, Śyāma, and Śamikagañjūṣa.
पृथा श्रुतदेवा श्रुत कीर्तिः श्रुतश्रवा राजाधिदेवी च वसुदेदादीनां पञ्च भगिन्योऽभवन् ॥ ४,१४.
Vasudeva and the others had five sisters: Pṛthā, Śrutadevā, Śrutakīrti, Śrutaśravā, and Rājādhidevī.
शुरस्य कुन्तिर्नाम सखाभवत् ॥ ४,१४.
Śūra had a friend named Kuntir.
तस्मै चापुत्राय पृथामात्मजां विधिना शुरो दत्तवान् ॥ ४,१४.
To him, who was without children, Śūra gave his daughter Pṛthā according to custom.
तां च पाण्डुरुवाह ॥ ४,१४.
Pandur took her as his wife.
तस्यां च धर्मानिलेन्द्रैर्युधिष्ठरभीमसेनार्जुनाख्यास्त्रयः पुत्राःसमुत्पादिताः ॥ ४,१४.
And in her, through Dharma, Vayu, and Indra, three sons named Yudhishthira, Bhimasena, and Arjuna were begotten.
पूर्वमेवानूढायाश्च भगवता भास्वता कानीनः कर्णो नाम पुत्रोऽजन्यत ॥ ४,१४.
Even before she was married, by the radiant divine being, a son named Karna was born to her, known as a Kānīna.
तस्याश्च सपत्नी माद्री नामाभूत् ॥ ४,१४.
She had a co-wife named Madri.
तस्यां च नासत्यदस्त्राभ्यां नकुलसहदेवौ पाण्डोः पुत्रौ जनितौ ॥ ४,१४.
In her, through the twin Ashvins, Nakula and Sahadeva, sons of Pandu, were born.
श्रुतदेवां तु वृद्धधर्मा नाम कारूश उवयेमे ॥ ४,१४.
Shrutadeva was married by Vriddhadharma, king of Karusha.
तस्याञ्च च दन्तवक्रो नाम महासुरो जज्ञे ॥ ४,१४.
In her, a great asura named Dantavakra was born.
श्रुतकीर्तिमपि केकयराजा उपयेमे ॥ ४,१४.
Shrutakirti was also married by the king of Kekaya.
तस्यां च संतर्दनादयः कैकेयाः पञ्च पुत्रा बभूवुः ॥ ४,१४.
In her, five sons of Kekaya, beginning with Santardana, were born.
राजाधिदेव्यमावन्त्यौ विन्दानुविन्दौ जज्ञाते ॥ ४,१४.
From Rajadhidevi, the Avanti princes Vindya and Anuvindya were born.
श्रुतश्रवसमपि चेदिराजो दमघोषनामोपयेमे ॥ ४,१४.
Shrutashrava was also married by the Chedi king named Damaghosha.
तस्यां च शिशुपालमुत्पादयामास ॥ ४,१४.
In her, Shishupala was born.
स वा पूर्वमप्युदारविक्रमो दैत्यानामादिपुरुषो हिरण्यकशिपुरभवत् ॥ ४,१४.
He, in a previous birth, was the noble and mighty Hiranyakashipu, the primeval being among the Daityas.
यश्च भगवता सकललोकगुरुणा नारसिंहेन घातितः ॥ ४,१४.
He was slain by the Lord, the teacher of all worlds, in the form of Narasimha.
पुनरपि अक्षयवीर्यशौर्यसंपत्पराक्रमगुणःसमाक्रान्तसकलत्रैलोकेश्वरप्रभावो दशाननो नामाभूत् ॥ ४,१४.
Again, endowed with inexhaustible strength, heroism, prosperity, and valor, possessing the power of all the lords of the three worlds, he became known as Dashanana.
बहुकालोपभुक्तभगवत्सकाशावाप्तशरीरपातोद्भवपुण्यफलो भगवता राघवरूपिणा सोऽपि निधनमुपपादितः ॥ ४,१४.
Having enjoyed many ages, and after falling in battle at the hands of the Lord in the form of Raghava, he attained the fruit of his accumulated merit.
पुनश्चेदिराजस्य दमघोषस्यात्मजः शिशु पालनामाभवत् ॥ ४,१४.
Again, he was born as Shishupala, the son of Damaghosha, king of Chedi.
शिशुपालत्वेपि भगवतो भूभारावतारणायावतीर्णांशस्य पुण्डरीकनयनाख्यस्योपरि द्वेषानुबन्धमतितराञ्चकार ॥ ४,१४.
Even as Shishupala, he developed intense enmity toward the Lord, who had descended as Pundarikanayana for the removal of the earth's burden.
भगवता च स निधनमुपानीतस्तत्रैव परमात्मभूते मनस एकाग्रतया सायुज्यमवाप ॥ ४,१४.
And by the Blessed Lord, he was brought to his end there itself, and through single-pointed concentration of mind upon the Supreme Self, he attained union with Him.
भगवान् यदि प्रसन्नो यथाभिलषितं ददाति तथा अग्रसन्नोपि निघ्नन् दिव्यमनुपमं स्थानं प्रयच्छति ॥ ४,१४.
If the Blessed Lord is pleased, He grants whatever is desired; likewise, even when confronting as an enemy and slaying, He bestows a divine and incomparable state.
