In a future age, he will restore the kṣatriya lineage of the Solar dynasty.
His son was Praśuśruka; his son was Susandhi; then came Amarṣa; his son was Sahasvān; and from him, Viśvabhava.
His son was Bṛhadbala, who was slain in the Bhārata war by Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna.
These are the principal kings of the Ikṣvāku line as I have recounted; whoever hears their deeds is freed from all sins.
The son of Ikṣvāku named Nimi began a sacrificial session lasting a thousand years, and he chose Vasiṣṭha as the chief priest.
Vasiṣṭha said to him, 'I have already been chosen by Indra for a sacrifice lasting five hundred years; after that, I will come and serve as your priest.' When the king said nothing in reply, Vasiṣṭha, understanding his intention, performed Indra's sacrifice.
Meanwhile, Nimi performed his own sacrifice with other priests such as Gautama. When Indra's sacrifice was completed, Vasiṣṭha, eager, came and said, 'Now I will perform Nimi's rite.' But seeing Gautama already officiating, and that the king had not refused him, Vasiṣṭha, angered, assigned another rite to Gautama and cursed the king, saying, 'Because you did not reject me, you will become without a body—Videha.'
The awakened king replied, 'Because you, my wicked teacher, gave me a curse while I was asleep and unaware, without even speaking to me, therefore a curse will fall upon you as well.' Having said this, he gave up his body.
Because of that curse, the energy of Vasiṣṭha entered the radiance of Mitra and Varuṇa, and from their union with Urvaśī, Vasiṣṭha obtained another body.
Nimi's body, exceedingly beautiful and fragrant with the scent of oil and other substances, did not decay or suffer any corruption, but remained as if freshly dead.
At the completion of the sacrifice, the priests said to the gods who had come to receive their share, 'Let a boon be granted to the sacrificer.' Thus addressed by the gods, Nimi spoke.
He said, 'O blessed ones, there is no greater suffering in all the world than the separation of body and soul. Therefore, I wish to dwell in the eyes of all beings, and not to take on a body again.' At his request, the gods made him reside in the eyes of all creatures, and from then on, beings began to blink.
Since the king had died without a son, the sages, fearing the land would be without a ruler, churned his body in the forest.
From that, a boy was born, and because he was born from the act of birth, he was called Janaka.

While Sīradhvaja was performing a sacrifice for the sake of a son, Sītā, his daughter, arose from the furrow. Sīradhvaja's brother was Kuśadhvaja, the lord of Sāṅkāśya. Sīradhvaja's wife was Bhānumatī.

From Bhānumat came Śatadyumna, whose son was Śuci. From him was born a son named Ūrjjacavaha. His son was Satyadhvaja, then Kuni (or Kriṇi), whose son was Añjana. Añjana's son was Ṛtujit, then Ariṣṭanemi, from whom came Śratāyu. His son was Sūryāśva, then Sañjaya, then Kṣemāri, then Danena, from whom came Mīnaratha (or Mānaratha). His son was Satyaratha, whose son was Sātyarathi, then Sātyaratharupagu, from whom came Śruta. From Śruta came Śāpa, and from him, the brilliant Suvarjjā, the son of Mitrāvaruṇa. His son was Subhāsa, then Suśruta, from whom came Jaya. Jaya's son was Vijaya, whose son was Ṛta, then Sunaya, then Vītahavya, then Sañjaya, then Dhṛti, whose son was Bahulāśva. His son was Kṛti, and in Kṛti the line of Janaka is established.

These are the kings of Mithilā. Among them, many will be rulers devoted to the knowledge of the Self.

Please tell me, O Brāhmaṇa, about those whose illustrious line still endures today, whose fame remains steadfast and whose faces are radiant with grace.
Śrī Parāśara said: Listen, O best of sages, to the lineage of Soma, renowned for its splendor, in which many kings of the earth have arisen, as recounted in order.
This lineage has been adorned by kings such as Nahuṣa, Yayāti, and Kārtavīrya Arjuna, who were endowed with great strength, valor, brilliance, character, and noble deeds. I will now relate it—listen.
Atri, the son of Brahmā—who was born from the lotus that sprang from the navel of the divine Nārāyaṇa, the creator of all worlds—
