सुद्युम्नस्तु स्त्रीपूर्वकत्वाद्रा ज्यभागं न लेभे
But Sudyumna, because of his prior existence as a woman, did not receive a share of the kingdom.
तत्पित्रा तु वसिष्ठवचनात्प्रतिष्ठानं नाम नगरं सुद्युम्नाय दत्तं तच्चासौ पुरूरवसे प्रादात्
Then, by his father’s command and the counsel of Vasiṣṭha, the city named Pratiṣṭhāna was given to Sudyumna, and he in turn gave it to Purūravas.
तदन्वयाश्च क्षत्त्रियास्सर्वै दिक्ष्वभवन् । पृषध्रस्तु मनुपुत्रो गुरुगोवधाच्छूद्र त्वमगमत्
And from their lineage, Kṣatriyas arose in all directions; but Pṛṣadhra, son of Manu, became a Śūdra due to the killing of his guru’s cow.
मनोः पुत्रः करूषः करूषात्कारूषाः क्षत्त्रिया महाबलपराक्रमा बभूवः
Manu’s son Karūṣa gave rise to the Karūṣa Kṣatriyas, who were mighty and valiant.
दिष्टपुत्रस्तु नाभागो वैश्यतामगमत्तस्माद्बलंधनः पुत्रोभवत्
Diṣṭa’s son Nābhāga became a Vaiśya, and from him was born his son Balaṃdhana.
बलंधनाद्वत्सप्रीतिरुदारकीर्त्तिः
From Balaṃdhana came Vatsaprīti and Udārakīrtti.
वत्सप्रीतेः प्रांशुरभवत्
From Vatsaprīti was born Prāṃśu.
प्रजापतिश्च प्रांशोरेकोऽभवत्
From Prāṃśu, Prajāpati was born as his only son.
ततश्च खनित्रः
Then from him came Khanitra.
तस्माच्चक्षुषः
From him was born Cakṣuṣa.
चक्षुषाच्चातिबलपराक्रमो विंशोभवत्
From Cakṣuṣa, Viṃśa was born, endowed with great strength and valor.
ततो विविंशकः
Then from him came Viviṃśaka.
तस्माच्च खनिनेत्रः
From him was born Khaninetra.
ततश्चातिविभूतिः
Then from him came Ativibhūti.
अतिविभूतेरतिबलपराक्रमः करंधमः पुत्रोभवत्
From Ativibhūti, Karaṃdhama was born, a son of great strength and valor.
तस्मादप्यविक्षित्
From him was born Avikṣit.
अविक्षितोप्यतिबलपराक्रमः पुत्रो मरुत्तो नामाऽभवत् । यस्येमावद्यापि श्लोकौ गीयेत्
Avikṣit too had a son of great strength and valor, named Marutta, about whom these two verses are still sung.
मरुत्तस्य यथा यज्ञस्तथा कस्याभवद्भुवि । सर्वं हिरण्मयं यस्य यज्ञवस्त्वतिशोभनम्
Whose sacrifice on earth was like that of Marutta? All the sacrificial objects of his were made of gold and exceedingly splendid.
अमाद्यदिंद्र स्सोमेन दक्षिणाभिर्द्विजातयः । मरुतः परिवेष्टारस्सदस्याश्च दिवौकसः
Indra was present as an uninvited guest, the twice-born received gifts of soma and fees, the Maruts served as attendants, and the gods of heaven were participants in the assembly.
स मरुत्तश्चक्रवर्त्ती नरिष्यंतनामानं पुत्रमवाप
That Marutta, the universal emperor, had a son named Nariṣyanta.
तस्माच्च दमः
From him came Dama.
दमस्य पुत्रो राजवर्धनो जज्ञे
Dama's son was born as Rājavardhana.
राजवर्द्धनात्सुवृद्धिः
From Rājavardhana came Suvṛddhi.
सुवृद्धेः केवलः
From Suvṛddhi was born Kevala.
केवलात्सुधृतिरभूत्
From Kevala, Sudhriti was born.
तस्माच्चंद्र ः!
From him, Candra!
ततः केवलोभूत्
Then, Kevala was born.
केवलाद्बंधुमान्
From Kevala, Bandhumat was born.
बंधुमतो वेगवान्
From Bandhumat, Vegavat was born.
वेगवतो बुधः
From Vegavat, Budha was born.
