The power of Viṣṇu, incomparable and abundant in purity, remains established in existence; in every Manvantara, it presides as divinity.
In the Svāyambhuva Manvantara, a portion of that power was born as Yajña; in the first Manvantara, the mind-born god was produced from Ākūti.
Then again, when the Svārociṣa Manvantara arrived, that god was born from Tuṣitā, known as Ājita, together with the Tuṣitas.
In the third Manvantara, called Uttama, that god was again Tuṣita; in Satyā, he became Satya, along with the excellent Satyas.
And in the Tāmasa Manvantara, when it arrived again, Hari was born from Haryā, together with the Haris.
In the Raivata Manvantara, the divine Hari was born from Saṃbhūti, together with the Raivata gods, as the foremost among them.

In the Cākṣuṣa Manvantara, the supreme god Vaikuṇṭha was born from Vikuṇṭhā, together with the Vaikuṇṭha gods.
And when the Vaivasvata Manvantara arrived, O twice-born, Viṣṇu appeared as Vāmana, born from Aditi and Kāśyapa.
By three strides, the great soul conquered these worlds, and gave the three realms, cleared of obstacles, to Purandara.

These are the forms of his in the seven Manvantaras; O sage, by which the peoples have been nurtured.
Because this universe is pervaded by the power of that great soul, he is called Viṣṇu, from the root 'viś', meaning 'to enter'.
All the gods, Manus, the seven sages, the sons of Manu, and Indra, who is lord of the thirty gods—these are all manifestations of Viṣṇu's inexhaustible powers.
Maitreya said: You have described these seven Manvantaras; O sage among the twice-born, you should also tell me about those that are yet to come.
Śrī Parāśara said: Saṃjñā, daughter of Viśvakarma, became the wife of Sūrya; Manu, Yama, and Yamī are her children, O sage.
Unable to endure her husband's radiance, she joined her shadow in his place, and herself went to the forest to practice austerity.
Then the Sun, thinking she was Saṃjñā, begot three children with Chāyā: Śanaiścara, another Manu, and Tapati.
When Chāyā, angry, cursed Yama, Saṃjñā's son, it was then understood that this was another, and not the true mother, between Yama and the Sun.
Then Vivasvān, by means of deep meditation, saw Saṃjñā, who was residing in the forest, having taken the form of a mare, engaged in austerity.
Assuming the form of a stallion, the Sun begot the twin gods, the Aśvins, in her, and at the end of his seed, he also begot Revanta.
The blessed Sun then brought Saṃjñā back to her proper place, and Viśvakarman diminished his radiance.
Mounting the Sun on a lathe, Viśvakarman cut away an eighth portion of his excessive brilliance, yet the remainder remained undiminished.
O best of sages, the portion of Viṣṇu's energy that was cut away by Viśvakarman, blazing intensely, fell to the earth.
From that energy, Tvaṣṭṛ fashioned Viṣṇu's discus, Śiva's trident, the god of wealth's palanquin, and other divine weapons.
The spear of Guha and the weapons of the other gods were all enhanced by that same energy by Viśvakarman.
