ततो विसृज्यमानायाः स्रोतस्तत्सप्तताङ्गतम्। त्रयः प्राचीमभिमुखं प्रतीचीं त्रयः एव तु ।। ४७.
Then, as she was being released, her current split into seven branches: three flowed eastward, and three flowed westward.
नद्याः स्रोतस्तु गङ्गायाः प्रत्यपद्यत सप्तधा। नलिनी ह्रादिनी चैव पावनी चैव प्राग्गता ।। ४७.
The stream of the Ganga thus became sevenfold: Nalinī, Hradinī, and Pāvanī flowed to the east.
सीता चक्षुश्च सिन्धुश्च प्रतीचीं दिशमाक्षिताः। सप्तमी त्वनुगा तासां दक्षिणेन भगीरथी ।। ४७.
Sītā, Cakṣu, and Sindhu flowed to the west; the seventh, Bhagirathi, followed them to the south.
तस्माद्भागीरथी या सा प्रविष्टा लवणोदधिम्। सप्तैता भावयन्तीह हिमाह्वं वर्षमेव तु ।। ४७.
Therefore, that Bhagirathi entered the salty ocean; these seven, sustaining the region called Himāhva, became the rainfall.
प्रसूताः सप्त नद्यस्ताः शुभा बिन्दुसरोद्भवाः। नानादेशान् भावयन्त्यो म्लेच्छप्रायांश्च सर्वशः ।। ४७.
Those seven auspicious rivers, born from Bindusaras, nourish various lands, and mostly the regions inhabited by foreigners.
उपगच्छन्ति ताः सर्वा यतो वर्षति वासनः। सिरिन्ध्रान् कुन्तलांश्चीनान् बर्भरान् यवसान् द्रुहान् ।। ४७.
All those rivers reach the places where the rain falls: the Sirindhras, Kuntalas, Chinas, Barbhara, Yavasa, and Druha.
रुषाणांश्च कुणिन्दांश्च अङगलोकवराश्च ये। कृत्वा द्विधा सिन्धुमरुं सीतागात्पश्चिमोदधिम् ।। ४७.
And those of the Ruṣā, Kuṇinda, and the distinguished people of Aṅga and Lokavara, after dividing the Sindhu desert, Sītā reached the western ocean.
अथ चीनमरूंश्चैव नङ्गणान् सर्वमूलिकान् । साध्रांस्तु षारांस्तम्पाकान् पह्नवान् दरदान् शकान्। एतान् जनपदान् चक्षुः स्रावयन्ती गतोदधिम् ।। ४७.
Then, the people of China and Maru, as well as the Naṅgaṇa and all the Mūlika, together with the Sādhra, Ṣārā, Tampāka, Pahnava, Darada, and Śaka—these peoples, the river Cakṣuḥ, flowing, reached the ocean.
दरदांश्च सकांश्मीरान् गान्धारान् वरपान् ह्रदान्। शिवपौरानिन्द्रहासान् वदातींश्च विसर्जयान् ।। ४७.
The Darada, Sakā, Kashmiris, Gandhāra, Varapa, Hradā, Śivapura, Indrahāsa, and Vadātī—she passed through these and departed.
सैन्धवान् रन्ध्रकरकान् भ्रमराभीररोहकान् । शुनामुखांश्चोर्द्ध्वमनून् सिद्धचारणसोवितान् ।। ४७.
The Saindhava, Randhra, Karaka, Bhramara, Abhīra, Rohaka, and Śunāmukha, as well as the northern Anu, accompanied by Siddha, Cāraṇa, and Sovi.
गन्धर्वान् किन्नरान् यक्षान् रक्षोविद्याधरोरगान्। कलापग्रामकांश्चैव पारदान् सीगणान् खसान् ।। ४७.
Gandharva, Kinnara, Yakṣa, Rākṣasa, Vidyādhara, serpent beings, and also the people of Kalāpagrāma, Pārada, Sīgaṇa, and Khasa.
किरातांश्च पुलिन्दांश्च कुरून् सभरतानपि। पञ्चालकाशिमात्स्यांश्च मगधाङ्गांस्तथैव च ।। ४७.
Kirāta, Pulinda, Kuru, and the Bharata, as well as the Pañcāla, Kāśi, Matsya, Magadha, and Aṅga.
ब्रह्मोत्तरांश्च वङ्गांश्च तामलिप्तांस्तथैव च। एतान् जनपदानार्यान् गङ्गा भावयते शुभान् ।। ४७.
Brahmottara, Vaṅga, and Tāmalipta—these noble peoples, the sacred Gaṅgā nourishes.
ततः प्रतिहता विन्ध्ये प्रविष्टा दक्षिणोददिम्। ततक्ष्वाह्लादिनी पुण्या प्राचीनाभिमुखी ययौ ।। ४७.
Then, blocked by the Vindhya, she entered the southern ocean; thus, the blessed river, delighting, proceeded eastward.
प्लावयन्त्युपभोगांश्च निषादानां च जातयः। धीवरानृषिकांश्चैव तथा नीलमुखानपि ।। ४७.
Flooding the lands of the Niṣāda tribes, as well as the Dhīvara, Ṛṣika, and also the Nīlamukha.
केरलानुष्ट्रकर्णांश्च किरातानपि चैव हि। कालोदरान् विवर्णांश्च कुमारान् स्वर्णभूषितान् ।। ४७.
Kerala, Uṣṭrakarṇa, Kirāta, Kālodara, Vivarṇa, Kumāra, and those adorned with gold.
सा मण्डले समुद्रस्य तिरोभूताऽनुपूर्वतः। ततस्तु पावनी चैव प्राचीमेव दिशङ्गता ।। ४७.
She disappeared in the circle of the ocean, in order; then, the purifying river proceeded toward the eastern direction.
अपथान् भावयन्तीह इन्द्रद्युम्नसरोऽपि च। तता खरथांश्चैव इन्द्रशङ्कुपथानपि ।। ४७.
Nourishing the Apatha here, and also the lake of Indradyumna; then the Kharatha and the Indraśaṅku paths as well.
मध्येनोद्यानमस्कारान् कुथप्रावरणान् ययौ। इन्द्रद्वीपसमुद्रे तु प्रविष्टा लवणोदधिम् ।। ४७.
Passing through the gardens and the Maskāra, she went to Kuthaprāvaraṇa; entering the ocean of Indradvīpa, she reached the salt sea.
ततश्च नलिनी चागात् प्राचीमाशां जवेन तु। तोमरान् भावयन्तीह हंसमार्गान् सहूहुकान् ।। ४७.
Then Nalini went swiftly toward the eastern region, nourishing the Tomara, Haṃsamārga, and Sahūhuka.
पूर्वान् देशांश्च सेवन्ती भित्त्वा सा बहुधा गिरीन्। कर्णप्रावरणांश्चैव प्राप्य चाश्वमुखानपि ।। ४७.
Serving the eastern lands, breaking through many mountains, she reached the Karṇaprāvaraṇa and also the Aśvamukha.
सिकतापर्वतमरून् गत्वा विद्याधरान् ययौ। नेमिमण्डलकोष्ठे तु प्रविष्टा सा महोदधिम् ।। ४७.
Having gone to the sandy mountain and desert, she proceeded to the Vidyādhara; in the circle of Nemimaṇḍala, she entered the great ocean.
तासां नद्युपनद्यश्च शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः। उपगच्छन्ति ताः सर्वा यतो वर्षति वासवः ।। ४७.
Of these rivers and tributaries, hundreds and thousands approach; all of them, from where Indra pours rain.
वस्वोकसायास्तीरे तु वारिसुरभिविश्रुते। हरिश्रृङ्गे तु वसति विद्वान् कौबैरको वशी ।। ४७.
On the shore of Vasvokasā, renowned for fragrant waters, at Hariśṛṅga dwells the wise Kaubairaka, masterful.
यज्ञोपेतः स सुमहानमितौजाः सुविक्रमः। तत्रागस्त्यैः परिवृतो विद्वद्भिर्ब्रह्मराक्षसैः। कुबैरानुचराः ह्येते चत्वारस्तत्समाः स्मृताः ।। ४७.
Endowed with the sacred thread, exceedingly great, of immeasurable energy and valor, he was surrounded there by Agastyas, learned Brahmarakshasas, and Kubera's attendants—these four are remembered as his equals.
एवमेव तु विज्ञेया ऋद्धिः पर्वतवासिनाम्। परस्परेण द्विगुणा धर्मतः कामतोऽर्थतः ।। ४७.
In the same way, the prosperity of those who dwell in the mountains should be understood as twice as great as each other, whether in righteousness, desire, or wealth.
हेमकूटस्य पॄष्ठे तु सायनं नाम तत्सरः। मनस्विनी प्रभवति तस्माज्ज्योतिष्मती च सा ।। ४७.
On the summit of Hemakuta lies a lake named Sayana; from it arises the river Manasvini, and from there, the luminous Jyotishmati.
अवगाह्य ह्युभयतः समुद्रौ पूर्वपश्चिमौ । सरो विष्णुपदं नाम निषधे पर्वतोत्तमे ।। ४७.
Having bathed in both the eastern and western oceans, there is a lake called Vishnupada on the highest peak of Nishadha.
तस्माद्द्वयं प्रभवति गान्धर्वी नन्वली च या। मेरोः पश्चात् प्रभवति ह्रदश्चन्द्रप्रभो महान् ।। ४७.
From that, two rivers arise: the Gandharvi and the Anvali; west of Meru arises the great lake Chandraprabha.
तत्र जाम्बूनदी पुण्या यस्यां जाम्बूनदं शुभम्। पयोदं तु सरो नीले सुशुभ्रं पुण्डरीकवत् ।। ४७.
There is the sacred Jambunadi, in which the auspicious Jambunada gold is found; and on Mount Nila, the lake Payoda, shining and filled with lotuses.
