तस्य नाम्ना समाख्यातो जम्बूद्वीपे वनस्पतिः। योजनानां सहस्रं तु शतचान्यमहाद्रुमः। उत्सेधो वृक्षराजस्प दिवं स्पृशति सर्वशः ।। ४६.
From this tree, the island Jambūdvīpa takes its name; there is another great tree, a thousand yojanas tall and a hundred wide, whose top, as king of trees, reaches all the way to heaven.
अरत्नीनां शतान्यष्टौ एकषष्ट्यधिकानि तु। फलप्रमाणं संख्यातमृषिभिस्तत्त्वदर्शिभिः ।। ४६.
The size of its fruit has been reckoned by the seers who see the truth as eight hundred and sixty-one cubits.
पतमानानि तान्युर्व्यां कुर्वन्ति विपुलं स्वनम्। तस्या जम्ब्वाः फलरसो नदीभूय प्रसर्पति ।। ४६.
As they fall to the earth, they make a great sound; the juice of the jambū fruit flows forth, becoming a river.
मेरुं प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य जम्बू वृक्षंविशत्यधः। ते पिबन्ति सदा हृष्टा जम्बूरसफलावृताः ।। ४६.
Circling Mount Meru, the jambū trees descend below; those who are always joyful drink the juice of the jambū fruit.
जम्बूरसफलं पीत्वा न जरां प्राप्नुवन्ति ते। न च ध्रुवं न रोगं तु न च मृत्युं तथाविधम् ।। ४६.
Having drunk the juice of the jambū fruit, they do not experience old age; nor do they encounter disease, nor death of that kind.
तत्र जाम्बूनदं नाम कनकं देवभूषणम्। इन्द्रगोपकशङ्काशं जायते भास्वरन्तु तत् ।। ४६.
There arises a gold called jāmbūnada, an ornament of the gods; it shines, resembling the color of the indragopa insect.
सर्वेषां वर्षवृक्षाणां शुभः फलरसस्तु सः। स्कन्नं भवति तच्छुक्रं कनकं देवभूषणम् ।। ४६.
The juice of all the excellent trees is auspicious; what drips from them becomes pure gold, the ornament of the gods.
तेषां मूत्रं पुरीषञ्च दिक्षु सर्वासु भागशः। ईश्वरानुग्रहाद्भूमिर्मृतांश्च ग्रसते तु तान् ।। ४६.
Their urine and excrement are distributed in all directions; by the favor of the Lord, the earth consumes them, along with the dead.
रक्षः पिशाचा यक्षाश्च सर्वे हैमवताः स्मृताः। हेमकूटे तु गन्धर्वा विज्ञेयाः साप्सरोगणाः ।। ४६.
All the rakṣasas, piśācas, and yakṣas are known as inhabitants of the Himavat; on Hemakūṭa dwell the gandharvas, together with groups of apsarases.
सर्वे नागास्तु निषधे शेषवासुकितक्षकाः। महामेरौ त्रयस्त्रिंशद्भ्रमन्ते याज्ञिकाः सुराः । नीले तु वैडूर्यमये सिद्धब्रह्मर्षयो मताः ।। ४६.
All the nāgas reside in Niṣadha—Śeṣa, Vāsuki, and Takṣaka; on great Meru, thirty-three sacrificial gods wander; on Nīla, made of beryl, dwell the perfected sages and brahmarṣis.
दैत्यानां दानवानाञ्च श्वेतपर्वत उच्यते। श्रृङ्गवान् पर्वतः श्रेष्ठः पितॄणां प्रतिसञ्चरः ।। ४६.
For the daityas and dānavas, the mountain called Śveta is mentioned; the mountain with peaks is supreme, the abode of the ancestors.
नवस्वेतेषु वर्षेषु यथाभागस्थितेषु वै। भूतान्युपनिविष्टानि गतिमन्ति ध्रुवाणि च ।। ४६.
In the nine Śveta regions, each situated according to its portion, beings are established, possessing movement and steadfastness.
तेषां विवृद्धिर्बहुला दृश्यते देवमानुषोः। न शक्या परिसङ्ख्यातुं श्रद्धेयानु बुभूषता ।। ४६.
Their increase is abundant, seen among gods and humans; it cannot be counted, but is to be accepted by those who desire knowledge.
इति श्रीमहापुराणे वायुप्रोक्ते भुवनविन्यासो नाम षट्चत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the forty-sixth chapter, named 'The Arrangement of Worlds,' spoken by Vāyu in the glorious Mahāpurāṇa.
सव्ये हिमवतः पार्श्वे कैलासो नाम पर्वतः। तस्मिन्निवसति श्रीमान् कुबेरः सह राक्षसैः। अप्सरोगणसंयुक्तो मोदते ह्यलकाधिपः ।। ४७.
On the left side of Himavat is the mountain called Kailāsa; there resides the illustrious Kubera with the rākṣasas, enjoying himself, surrounded by groups of apsarases, as the lord of Alakā.
कैलासपादात् सम्भूतं पुण्यं शीत जलं शुभम्। मन्दं नाम्ना कुमुद्वन्तं शरदम्बुदसन्निभम् ।। ४७.
From the foot of Kailāsa arises the sacred, cool, and pure water, called Kumudvat, gentle and resembling autumn clouds.
तस्माद्दिव्या प्रभवति नदी मन्दाकिनी शुभा। दिव्यञ्च नन्दनं तत्र तस्यास्तीरे महद्वनम् ।। ४७.
From it flows the divine river Mandākinī, auspicious; there, on its bank, is the celestial Nandana, a great forest.
प्रागुत्तरेण कैलासाद्दिव्यसत्त्वौषधं गिरिम्। सुरधातुमयं चित्रं सुवर्णं पर्वतं प्रति ।। ४७.
Northeast of Kailāsa is a mountain with divine beings and medicinal herbs, made of celestial minerals, splendid and golden.
चन्द्रप्रभो नाम गिरिः सशुद्धां रत्नसन्निभः। तस्य पादे महद्दिव्यमच्छोदं नाम तत्सरः ।। ४७.
There is a mountain named Candraprabha, pure and resembling gems; at its foot is the great, divine lake called Acchoda.
तस्माद्दिव्या प्रभवति ह्यच्छोदा नाम निम्नगा। तस्यास्तीरे महादिव्यं वनं चैत्ररथं स्मृतम् ।। ४७.
From it flows the divine river named Acchodā; on its bank is the great celestial forest known as Caitraratha.
तस्मिन् गिरौ निवसति मणिभद्रः सहानुगः। यक्षसेनापतिः क्रूरगुह्यकैः परिवारितः ।। ४७.
On that mountain dwells Maṇibhadra, accompanied by his followers, the commander of the Yakṣas, surrounded by fierce Guhyakas.
पुण्या मन्दाकिनी चैव निम्नगाच्छोदिका तथा। महीमण्डलमध्येन प्रविष्टे ते महोदधिम् ।। ४७.
There, the sacred Mandākinī and also the river Nīmnagā flow; both enter the great ocean through the middle of the earth's expanse.
कैलासाद्दक्षिणप्राच्यां शिवसत्त्वौषधिं गुरुम् । मनःशिलामयं दिव्यं पिशङ्गं पर्वतं प्रति ।। ४७.
To the southeast of Kailāsa is the mountain Piśaṅga, divine and made of realgar, the great Śivasattvauṣadhi, a mountain of herbs.
लोहितो हेमश्रृङ्गस्तु गिरिः सूर्य प्रभो महान्। तस्य पादे महद्दिव्यं लोहितं नाम तत्सरः ।। ४७.
There is the great mountain Lohita, with golden peaks, O radiant one; at its foot is the great and divine lake called Lohita.
तस्मात् पुण्यः प्रभवति लौहित्यः सदनो महान्। देवारण्यं विशोकञ्च तस्य तीरे महावनम् ।। ४७.
From there arises the sacred and great abode of the river Lauhitya; on its bank is the vast and divine forest called Devāraṇya and Viśoka.
तस्मिन् गिरौ निवसति यक्षो मणिवरो वशी। सौम्यैः सुधार्मिकैश्चैव गुह्यकैः परिवारितः ।। ४७.
On that mountain dwells the Yakṣa Maṇivara, self-controlled, surrounded by gentle and righteous Guhyakas.
कैलासाद्दक्षिणे पार्श्वे क्रूरसत्वौषधं गिरिम्। वृत्रकायात् किलोत्पन्नमञ्जनं त्रिककुत्प्रति ।। ४७.
To the southern side of Kailāsa is the mountain Añjana, the fierce mountain of herbs, said to have arisen from the body of Vṛtra, facing Trikakut.
सर्वधातुमयस्तत्र सुमहान् वैद्युतो गिरिः। तस्य पादे सरः पुण्यं मानसं सिद्धसेवितम् ।। ४७.
There stands the great mountain Vaidyuta, composed of all metals; at its foot is the sacred lake Mānasā, frequented by perfected beings.
तस्मात् प्रभवते पुण्या सरयूर्लोकभावनी। तस्यास्तीरे वनं दिव्यं वैभ्राजं नाम विश्रुतम् ।। ४७.
From there arises the sacred river Sarayū, the nourisher of the world; on its bank is the renowned and divine forest called Vaibhrāja.
कुबेरानुचरस्तत्र प्रहेतृतनयो वशी। ब्रह्म पातो निवसति राक्षसोऽनन्तविक्रमः। अन्तरिक्षचरैर्घोरैर्यातुधानशतैर्वृतः ।। ४७.
There dwells Brahmapāta, the son of Prahetṛ and follower of Kubera, a mighty Rākṣasa of boundless prowess, surrounded by fierce sky-roaming Yātudhānas numbering in the hundreds.
