मालवाश्च करूषाश्च मेकलाश्चोत्कलैः सह। उत्तमर्णा दशार्णाश्च भोजाः किष्किन्धकैः सह ।। ४५.
The Malavas, the Karushas, the Mekalas together with the Utkalas, the Uttamarna, the Dasharnas, the Bhojas along with the Kishkindhakas.
तोसलाः कोसलाश्चैव त्रैपुरा वैदिकास्तथा। तुमुरास्तुम्बुराश्चैव षट्सुरा निषधैः सह ।। ४५.
The Tosalas, the Kosalas, the people of Tripura, and the Vaidikas; the Tumuras, the Tumburas, and the Shatsuras together with the Nishadhas.
अनुपास्तुण्डिकेराश्च वीतिहोत्रा ह्यवन्तयः। एते जनपदाः सर्वे विन्ध्य पृष्ठनिवासिनः ।। ४५.
The Anupas, the Tundikeras, the Vitihotras, and the Avantis—these are all the peoples dwelling on the Vindhya slopes.
अतो देशान् प्रवक्ष्यामि पर्वताश्रयिणश्च ये। निगर्हरा हंसमार्गाः क्षुपणास्तङ्गणाः खसाः ।। ४५.
Now I will describe the regions and those who dwell in the mountains: the Nigarharas, the Hamsamargas, the Kshupanas, the Tanganas, and the Khasas.
कुशप्रावरणाश्चैव हूणा दर्वाः सहूदकाः। त्रिगर्त्ता मालवाश्चैव किरातास्तामसैः सह ।। ४५.
Those who wear grass cloaks, the Hunas, the Darvas together with the Hudakas, the Trigartas, the Malavas, and the Kiratas along with the Tamasas.
चत्वारि भारते वर्षे युगानि कवयो विदुः। कृतं त्रेता द्वारपञ्च कलिश्चेति चतुष्टयम्। तेषां निसर्गं वक्ष्यामि उपरिष्टान्निबोधत ।। ४५.
The sages know that there are four ages in the land of Bharata: Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—these four. I will explain their nature; listen further.
एतच्छ्रुत्वा तु ऋषय उत्तरं पुनरेव ते। शुश्रूषवो मुदा युक्ताः पप्रच्छुर्लोमहर्षणम् ।। ४६.
After hearing this, the sages, eager and joyful, again questioned Lomaharshana.
यच्च किम्पुरुषं वर्षं हरिवर्षं तथैव च। आचक्ष्व नो यथातत्त्वं कीर्त्तितं भारतं त्वया ।। ४६.
Tell us truly about the Kimpurusha land and also Harivarsha, as you have described Bharata.
पृष्टत्स्विदं यथा विप्रैर्यथा प्रश्रं विशेषतः। उवाच मुनिनिर्दिष्टं पुराणं विहितं यथा ।। ४६.
Asked in this way by the sages, as was proper, he spoke the Purana as instructed by the ancient seers.
शुश्रूषा यत्र वो विप्रास्तच्छृणुध्वं मुदा युताः। पुक्षखण्डः किम्पुरुषे सुमहान्नन्दनोपमः ।। ४६.
O Brahmins, eager to listen, hear with joy: in Kimpurusha is the great Puksha region, like Nandana itself.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि स्थितिः किम्पुरुषे स्मृता। सुवर्णवर्णाश्च नराः स्त्रियश्चाप्सरसोपमाः ।। ४६.
In Kimpurusha, the lifespan is said to be ten thousand years; the men are golden-hued and the women are like apsarases.
अनामया ह्यशोकाश्च सर्वे ते शुद्धमानसाः। जायन्ते मानवास्तत्र निस्तप्तकनकप्रभाः ।। ४६.
There, all are free from illness and sorrow, pure in mind; people are born with the radiance of refined gold.
वर्षे किम्पुरुषे पुण्ये प्लक्षो मधुवहः शुभः। तस्य किम्पुरुषाः सर्वे पिबन्ति रसमुत्तमम् ।। ४६.
In the blessed Kimpurusha land stands the splendid Plaksha tree bearing honey; all the Kimpurushas drink its supreme nectar.
अतःपरं किं पुरुषाद्धरिवर्षः प्रचक्ष्यते। महारजतसङ्काशा जायन्ते तत्र मानवाः ।। ४६.
Next after Kimpurusha is Harivarsha; there, people are born with the appearance of great silver.
देवलोकाच्च्युताः सर्वे देवरूपाश्च सर्वशः। हरिवर्षे नराः सर्वे पिबन्तीक्षुरसं शुभम् ।। ४६.
All those who have fallen from the world of the gods, possessing divine forms in every way, in the land of Hari, all the people drink the pure juice of sugarcane.
एकादश सहस्राणि वर्षाणां तु मुदा युताः। हरिवर्षे तु जीवन्ति सर्वे मुदितमानसाः। न जरा बाधते तत्र जीर्यन्ति न च ते नराः ।। ४६.
In the land of Hari, all live joyfully for eleven thousand years, their minds filled with happiness; there, old age does not trouble them, nor do those people grow old.
मध्यमं यन्मया प्रोक्तं नाम्ना वर्षमिलावृतम्। न तत्र सूर्यस्तपति न च जीर्यन्ति मानवाः ।। ४६.
That central region, which I have described as Ilāvṛta by name—there, the sun does not shine, nor do the people grow old.
चन्द्रसूर्यौ सनक्षत्रावप्रकाशाविलावृते । पद्मवर्णाः पद्म प्रभाः पद्मपत्रनिभेक्षणाः। पक्षपत्रसुगन्धाश्च जायन्ते तत्र मानवाः ।। ४६.
In Ilāvṛta, the moon and sun, along with the stars, do not appear; the people born there have the color of lotuses, a radiance like lotuses, eyes resembling lotus petals, and possess the fragrance of flower petals.
जम्बूरसफलाहारा ह्यनिष्पन्दाः सुगन्धिनः। मनस्विनो भुक्तभोगाः सत्कर्मफलभोगिनः ।। ४६.
They partake of the fruit of the jambu tree, are motionless, fragrant, wise, enjoyers of pleasures, and experiencers of the fruits of virtuous deeds.
देवलोकाच्च्युताः सर्वे जायन्ते ह्यजरामराः. त्रयोदशसहस्राणि वर्षाणान्ते नरोत्तमाः ।। ४६.
All those who have fallen from the world of the gods are born there as ageless and immortal; at the end of thirteen thousand years, they are the best among men.
आयुष्प्रमाणं जीवन्ति ते तु वर्षे त्विलावृते । मेरोः प्रतिदिशं ते तु नवसाहस्रविस्तृते ।। ४६.
In the land of Ilāvṛta, they live for the full measure of their lifespan, and in each direction from Meru, it extends for nine thousand units.
योजनानां सहस्राणि षड्विंशस्तस्य विस्तरः। चतुरस्रः समन्ताच्च शरावाकार संस्थितः ।। ४६.
Its breadth is twenty-six thousand yojanas, square on all sides, and shaped like a dish.
मेरोस्तु पश्चिमे भागे नवसाहस्रसंमिते। चतुस्त्रिंशत्सहस्राणि गन्धमादनपर्वतः ।। ४६.
On the western side of Meru, measuring nine thousand units, stands the Gandhamādana mountain, thirty-four thousand in extent.
उदग्दक्षिणतश्चैव आनीलनिषधायतः। चत्वारिंशत्सहस्राणि परिवृद्धो महीतलात्। सहस्रमवगाढस्तु तावदेव तु धिष्ठितः ।। ४६.
To the north and south, from Nīla and Niṣadha, it rises forty thousand from the earth, and a thousand deep, established to that extent.
पूर्वेण माल्यवान् शैलस्तत्प्रमाणः प्रकीर्तितः। दक्षिणेन तु नीलस्य निषधस्योत्तरेण तु ।। ४६.
To the east is the Mālyavān mountain, said to be of the same measure; to the south of Nīla, and to the north of Niṣadha.
तेषां मध्ये महामेरुः सुप्रमाणः प्रकीर्तितः। सर्वेषामेव शैलानामवगाढो यथा भवेत् ।। ४६.
In the midst of these, the great Meru is renowned for its vastness, and among all the mountains, it is said to be deeply rooted.
विस्तरस्तत्प्रमाणः स्यादायामे नियुतः स्मृतः। वृत्तभावात् समुद्रस्य महीमण्डलभावनः ।। ४६.
Its breadth is of the same measure, and its length is said to be ten thousand; being round in form, it is considered the central circle of the earth.
आयामाः परिहीयन्ते चतुरस्राः समस्ततः। अनावृत्ताश्चतुष्केण भिद्यन्ते मध्यमागताः ।। ४६.
The lengths decrease, all are square in shape; those in the middle are divided into four, not returning upon themselves.
प्रभिन्नाञ्जनसङ्काशा जम्बूरसवती नदी। मेरोस्तु दक्षिणे पार्श्वे निषधस्योत्तरेण तु ।। ४५.
The river Jambū, filled with the juice of the jambu fruit, dark as collyrium, flows on the southern side of Meru and to the north of Niṣadha.
सुदर्शनो नाम महाजम्बूवृक्षः सनातनः। नित्यपुष्पफलोपेतः सिद्धचारणसेवितः ।। ४६.
There stands the great, eternal Jambū tree named Sudarśana, ever adorned with flowers and fruits, attended by perfected beings and celestial singers.
