कुरूणामपि चैतेषां श्रृणुध्वं विस्तरेण तु। जारुधेः शैलराजस्याप्युत्तरेणोत्तरस्य हि। दिक्षु सर्वासु यद्यत्र कीर्त्यमानं निबोधत ।। ४५.
Now hear in detail also about the Kurus among them; and about Jarudhi, the king of mountains, to the north of Uttara; in all directions, wherever it is renowned, listen attentively.
अनेककन्दरदरीगुहानिर्झरमण्डितौ। नैककुञ्जवनोपेतौ चित्रधातुविभूषितौ ।। ४५.
Adorned with many caves, valleys, and waterfalls, and endowed with many groves and forests, they are embellished with variegated minerals.
अनेकधातुकलिलौ सर्वधातुविभूषितौ। पुष्पमूलफलोपेतौ सिद्धचारणसेवितौ ।। ४५.
Filled with many kinds of minerals and adorned with all sorts of ores, they are rich in flowers, roots, and fruits, and frequented by Siddhas and Caranas.
द्वावप्येतौ सुमहतावुच्छ्रितौ कुल पर्वतौ। ताभ्यां कूटशतैर्नैकैस्तद्द्वीपमुपसेवितम् ।। ४५.
Both these are very great and lofty family mountains; attended by hundreds and many peaks, those two mountains are frequented throughout the island.
चन्द्रकान्तश्च शैलश्च सूर्यकान्तश्च सानुमान् । ययोर्मध्ये न सा याता भद्रसोमा महानदी ।। ४५.
There are the Chandrakanta and Suryakanta mountains, both with high summits; between them does not flow the great river Bhadrasoma.
सहस्रशश्च नद्योऽन्याः प्रसन्नसुरसोदकाः। पर्याप्तोदाः कुरूणां हि स्नानपानावगाहनैः ।। ४५.
Thousands of other rivers, with clear and sweet waters, flow there; their waters are sufficient for the Kurus for bathing, drinking, and plunging.
तथाऽन्याः क्षीरवाहिन्यो महानद्यः सहस्रशः। मधुमैरेयवाहिन्यो घृतवाहिन्य एव च ।। ४५.
Likewise, there are thousands of great rivers flowing with milk, with honey and mead, and even with ghee.
दध्नः शतह्रदाश्चान्यास्ततः स्वाद्वन्नपर्वतः। अमृतस्वादुकल्पानि फलानि विविधानि च ।। ४५.
Elsewhere are hundreds of lakes of curds, and mountains of sweet food; and there are various fruits, as if flavored with nectar and sweetness.
गन्धवर्णरसाढ्यानि मूलानि च फलानि च। पञ्चयोजनमानानि महागन्धानि सर्वशः ।। ४५.
Roots and fruits endowed with fragrance, color, and taste, measuring five yojanas, and all possessing great fragrance.
नानावर्णप्रकाराणि पुष्पाणि च सहस्रशः। उप भोगसहस्राणि भद्राणि च महान्ति च ।। ४५.
Thousands of flowers of various colors and kinds, and thousands of delightful and great enjoyments.
गन्धवर्णरसाढ्यानि स्पर्शोपेतानि सर्वशः। तमालागुरुगन्धानां चन्दनानां वनानि च ।। ४५.
All are endowed with fragrance, color, and taste, and also with touch; there are forests of tamala, aguru, and sandalwood trees.
भ्रमरैरुपगीतानि प्रफुल्लानि सदैव च। वृक्षगुल्मलताढयानि वनानि सुसुखानि च ।। ४५.
Always blossoming, sung by bees, and filled with trees, shrubs, and creepers, the forests are exceedingly pleasant.
षट्पदैरुपगीतानि द्विजैश्चान्यैर्द्विजोत्तमाः। पझोत्पलवनाढ्यानि सरांसि च सहस्रशः ।। ४५.
Sung by bees and other excellent birds, there are thousands of lakes rich in lotuses and blue water lilies.
भक्ष्यमाल्यसमृद्धाश्च बहुमाल्यानुलेपनाः। मनोहरमुखैश्चित्रैः पक्षिसङ्घैर्निकूजिताः ।। ४५.
Abundant in edible fruits and garlands, with many fragrant unguents, and resounding with the calls of flocks of birds with charming and varied voices.
शयनासनोपभोगाश्च अनेकगुणविस्तराः। विहारभूमयो रम्याः सर्वर्तुषु सुखप्रदाः ।। ४५.
There are beds, seats, and enjoyments, all of manifold excellence; delightful places for recreation, giving happiness in all seasons.
आक्रीडाः सर्वतः स्फीताः मणिहेमपरिष्कृताः। शिलागृहा वृक्षगृहा वरेण्याः कदली गृहाः ।। ४५.
Everywhere there are splendid playgrounds, adorned with jewels and gold; and excellent stone houses, tree houses, and houses of plantain trees.
लतागृहसहस्राणि सुसुखानि समन्ततः। शुद्धशङ्खदलाभानि भूमिवेश्मशतानि च ।। ४५.
Thousands of vine-covered dwellings, exceedingly comfortable in every direction; houses on the ground, hundreds in number, resembling pure conch-shell petals.
तपनीयगवाक्षाणि माणिजालान्तराणि च। सुवर्णमणिचित्राणि सर्वत्र विपुलानि च ।। ४५.
Windows of gold and lattices of jewels; everywhere, spacious and splendid, adorned with gold and gems.
महावृक्षसहस्राणि वरेण्यानि च सर्वशः। नानाकाराणि वासांसि सूक्ष्माणि सुसुखानि च ।। ४५.
Thousands of great trees, all of the finest kind; garments of various forms, subtle and exceedingly comfortable.
मृदङ्ग वेणुपणववीणाद्या बहुविस्तराः। फलन्ति कल्पवृक्षाणां सहस्राणि शतानि च ।। ४५.
Many and varied drums, flutes, hand drums, lutes, and the like; hundreds and thousands of wish-fulfilling trees bear them as fruits.
सर्वत्रैव तथोद्यानं सर्वत्रैव हि तत्पुरम्। सर्वद्वीपप्रमुदितं नरनारी समाकुलम्। प्रवाति चानिलस्तत्र नानापुष्पाधिवासितः ।। ४५.
Everywhere there are gardens, everywhere that city; all the islands are filled with joy, crowded with men and women; there the wind blows, fragrant with many flowers.
चन्द्रकान्ता नरवराः श्यामाङ्काः पूर्वकूलजाः। श्यामावदाताः सुखिनः सूर्यकान्ता वराः प्रजाः ।। ४५.
The noble men are radiant like moonstones, dark-marked, born on the eastern shore; the women are dark and fair, happy, and the excellent people are radiant like sunstones.
तस्मिन् देशे नराः श्रेष्ठा देवसत्त्वपराक्रमाः। सदा विहारिणः सर्वे कामवृत्त्या सुवर्चसः ।। ४५.
In that land, the men are foremost, possessing divine strength and valor; all are always at leisure, endowed with splendor, fulfilling their desires.
वलयाङ्गदकेयूरहारकुण्डलभूषिताः । स्रग्विणश्चित्र मुकुटाश्चित्राच्छादनवाससः ।। ४५.
Adorned with bracelets, armlets, anklets, necklaces, and earrings; wearing garlands, splendid crowns, and garments of varied and beautiful colors.
अजीर्णयौवनधराः सुप्रियाः प्रियदर्शनाः। प्रजा वर्षसहस्राणि जीवन्ति सुबहून्युत ।। ४५.
Bearing undiminished youth, exceedingly dear and pleasant to behold; the people live for many thousands of years.
न ताः प्रसवधर्मिण्यो न वंशप्रक्षयो विधिः। मिथुनं जायते वृक्षादुपक्षममनीदृशम् ।। ४५.
They do not follow the law of birth, nor is there extinction of lineage; offspring arise from trees, in a manner unseen and wondrous.
सामान्यविभवाः सर्वे ममत्वपरिवर्जिताः। न तत्र विद्यते धर्मो नाधर्मः सम्प्रवर्त्तते ।। ४५.
All possess equal wealth, free from any sense of ownership; neither dharma nor adharma is found or arises there.
न व्यधिर्न जरा तत्र न दुर्मेधा न च क्लमः। पूर्णे काले विनश्यन्ति जलबुद्बुदवच्च ते ।। ४५.
There is no disease, no old age, no dullness of mind, nor fatigue; when their time is complete, they vanish like bubbles in water.
एवमत्यन्तसुखिनः सर्वदुःखविवर्जिताः। रक्ता धर्मं न पश्यन्ति दुःखाद्धर्मोऽभिजायते ।। ४५.
Thus, they are supremely happy, entirely free from suffering; being attached to pleasure, they do not perceive dharma, for dharma arises from suffering.
उत्तराणां कुरूणान्तु पार्श्वे ज्ञेयन्तु दक्षिणे। समुद्रमूर्मिमालाढ्यं नानास्वरविभूषितम् ।। ४५.
To the south of the northern Kurus, one should know, lies the ocean, rich with waves, adorned with various sounds.
