पूर्वापरौ समाख्यातौ द्वौ देशौ नस्त्वया प्रभो। उत्तराणाञ्च वर्षाणां दक्षिणानाञ्च सर्वशः। आचक्ष्व नो यथातथ्यं ये च पर्वतवासिनः ।। ४५.
O Lord, you have described to us the two regions, eastern and western. Now tell us truthfully about all the northern and southern lands, and also about those who dwell in the mountains.
दक्षिणेन तु श्वेतस्य नीलस्यैवोत्तरेण तु। वर्षं रमणकं नाम जायन्ते तत्र मानवाः ।। ४५.
To the south of Śveta and to the north of Nīla lies the land called Ramaṇaka, where humans are born.
सर्वर्तुकामदाः सत्त्वा जरादुर्गन्धवर्जिताः। शुक्राभिजनसम्पन्नाः सर्वे च प्रियदर्शनाः ।। ४५.
The beings there grant all desires in every season, are free from old age and foul odors, endowed with noble lineage, and all are pleasant to behold.
तत्रापि सुमहान् दिव्यो न्यग्रोधो रोहिणो महान्। तस्य पीत्वा फलरसं पिबन्तो वर्त्तयन्त्युत ।। ४५.
There, too, stands a great and divine banyan tree and a mighty Rohiṇa tree; drinking the juice of their fruits, the people live their lives.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि शतानि दशपञ्च च। जीवन्ति ते महाभागा सदा हृष्टा नरोत्तमाः ।। ४५.
Those blessed and excellent humans live for ten thousand five hundred years, always joyful.
उत्तरेण तु श्वेतस्य श्रृङ्गसाह्वस्य दक्षिणे। वर्षं हिरण्यतं नाम यत्र हैरण्यती नदी ।। ४५.
To the north of Śveta and south of Śṛṅgasāhva lies the land called Hiraṇyata, where the river Hairaṇyatī flows.
महाबलाः सुतेजस्काजायन्तेतत्र मानवाः। सर्वर्तुकामदाः सत्वा धनिनः प्रिय दर्शनाः ।। ४५.
There, powerful and radiant humans are born; the beings grant all desires in every season, are wealthy, and pleasant to behold.
एकादश सहस्राणि वर्षाणां तेऽमितौजसः। आयुष्प्रमाणं जीवन्ति शतानि दशपञ्च च ।। ४५.
Those of immeasurable energy live for eleven thousand five hundred years, which is their span of life.
तस्मिन् वर्षे महावृक्षो लकुचः षड्रसाश्रयः। तस्यपीत्वा फलरसं तत्र जीवन्ति मानवाः ।। ४५.
In that land, there is a great Lakuca tree, which holds all six tastes; by drinking the juice of its fruits, the people live there.
त्रीणि श्रृङ्गवतः श्रृङ्गाण्युच्छ्रितानि महान्ति च । एकं मणिमयं तेषामेकञ्चैव हिरण्ययम्। सर्वरत्न मयं चैकं भवनैरुपशोभितम् ।। ४५.
The mountain Śṛṅgavata has three lofty peaks: one made of gems, one of gold, and one of all precious stones, adorned with palaces.
उत्तरस्य समुद्रस्य समुद्रान्ते च दक्षिणे। कुरवस्तत्र तद्वर्षं पुण्यं सिद्धनिषेवितम् ।। ४५.
At the northern ocean and at its southern shore lies the land of the Kurus, sacred and inhabited by perfected beings.
तत्र वृक्षा मधुफला नित्यं पुष्पफलोपगाः। वस्त्राणि च प्रसूयन्ते फलेष्वाभरणानि च ।। ४५.
There, the trees bear honeyed fruits, always yielding flowers and fruit; garments are produced from the fruits, and ornaments as well.
सर्वकामफलास्तत्र व्कचिद्वृक्षा मनोरमाः। गन्धर्वाप्सरसोपेतं प्रक्षरन्ति मधूत्तमम् ।। ४५.
Some delightful trees there yield all desired fruits; attended by Gandharvas and Apsarases, they pour forth the finest honey.
अपरे क्षीरिणो नाम वृक्षास्तत्र मनोरमाः। ये क्षरन्ति सदा क्षीरं षड्रसं ह्यमृतोपमम् ।। ४५.
Other charming trees, called Kṣīriṇas, constantly flow with milk of all six tastes, akin to nectar.
सर्वा मणिमयी भूमिः सूक्ष्मकाञ्चन वालुका। सर्वातः सुखसंस्पर्शा निष्पङ्का नीरुजा शुभा ।। ४५.
The entire land is made of gems, with fine golden sand; everywhere it is pleasant to touch, spotless, free from pain, and beautiful.
देवलोकाच्च्युतास्तत्र जायन्ते मानवाः शुभाः। शुक्लाभिजनसम्पन्नाः सर्वे च स्थिर यौवनाः ।। ४५.
There, auspicious humans are born, having fallen from the realm of the gods; all are endowed with noble lineage and possess perpetual youth.
मिथुनानि प्रसूयन्ते स्त्रियश्चातिमनोहराः। ते च तं क्षीरिणं वृक्षं पिबन्ति ह्यमृतोपमम् ।। ४५.
Couples are born there, and the women are exceedingly beautiful; they drink from the Kṣīriṇa tree, which is like nectar.
मिथुनं जायते सद्यः समञ्चैव विवर्द्धते। समं शीलञ्च रूपं च म्रियन्ते चैव ते समम् ।। ४५.
A couple is born instantly and grows together; their character and appearance are alike, and they die together as well.
अन्योन्यमनुरक्ताश्च चक्रवाकसधर्मिणः। अनामया ह्यशोकाश्च नित्यं सुखनिषेविणः ।। ४५.
They are mutually devoted to each other, like chakravaka birds; they are free from disease and sorrow, and always delight in happiness.
त्रयोदश सहस्राणि शतानि दशपञ्च च। जीवन्ति ते महावीर्या न चान्यस्त्रीनिषेविणः ।। ४५.
There live thirteen thousand and fifteen hundred of great valor, and they do not consort with other women.
कुरूणामपि चैतेषां श्रृणुध्वं विस्तरेण तु। जारुधेः शैलराजस्याप्युत्तरेणोत्तरस्य हि। दिक्षु सर्वासु यद्यत्र कीर्त्यमानं निबोधत ।। ४५.
Now hear in detail also about the Kurus among them; and about Jarudhi, the king of mountains, to the north of Uttara; in all directions, wherever it is renowned, listen attentively.
अनेककन्दरदरीगुहानिर्झरमण्डितौ। नैककुञ्जवनोपेतौ चित्रधातुविभूषितौ ।। ४५.
Adorned with many caves, valleys, and waterfalls, and endowed with many groves and forests, they are embellished with variegated minerals.
अनेकधातुकलिलौ सर्वधातुविभूषितौ। पुष्पमूलफलोपेतौ सिद्धचारणसेवितौ ।। ४५.
Filled with many kinds of minerals and adorned with all sorts of ores, they are rich in flowers, roots, and fruits, and frequented by Siddhas and Caranas.
द्वावप्येतौ सुमहतावुच्छ्रितौ कुल पर्वतौ। ताभ्यां कूटशतैर्नैकैस्तद्द्वीपमुपसेवितम् ।। ४५.
Both these are very great and lofty family mountains; attended by hundreds and many peaks, those two mountains are frequented throughout the island.
चन्द्रकान्तश्च शैलश्च सूर्यकान्तश्च सानुमान् । ययोर्मध्ये न सा याता भद्रसोमा महानदी ।। ४५.
There are the Chandrakanta and Suryakanta mountains, both with high summits; between them does not flow the great river Bhadrasoma.
सहस्रशश्च नद्योऽन्याः प्रसन्नसुरसोदकाः। पर्याप्तोदाः कुरूणां हि स्नानपानावगाहनैः ।। ४५.
Thousands of other rivers, with clear and sweet waters, flow there; their waters are sufficient for the Kurus for bathing, drinking, and plunging.
तथाऽन्याः क्षीरवाहिन्यो महानद्यः सहस्रशः। मधुमैरेयवाहिन्यो घृतवाहिन्य एव च ।। ४५.
Likewise, there are thousands of great rivers flowing with milk, with honey and mead, and even with ghee.
दध्नः शतह्रदाश्चान्यास्ततः स्वाद्वन्नपर्वतः। अमृतस्वादुकल्पानि फलानि विविधानि च ।। ४५.
Elsewhere are hundreds of lakes of curds, and mountains of sweet food; and there are various fruits, as if flavored with nectar and sweetness.
गन्धवर्णरसाढ्यानि मूलानि च फलानि च। पञ्चयोजनमानानि महागन्धानि सर्वशः ।। ४५.
Roots and fruits endowed with fragrance, color, and taste, measuring five yojanas, and all possessing great fragrance.
नानावर्णप्रकाराणि पुष्पाणि च सहस्रशः। उप भोगसहस्राणि भद्राणि च महान्ति च ।। ४५.
Thousands of flowers of various colors and kinds, and thousands of delightful and great enjoyments.
