तैर्विमिश्रा जनपदैर्नानासत्त्वसमाकुलाः। नानाप्रकारजातीयास्त्वनेकनृपपालिताः ।। ४३.
Intermixed with these are regions filled with various beings, of many kinds and races, ruled by numerous kings.
नामधेयैश्च निक्रान्तैः श्रीमद्भिः पुरुषर्षभैः। अध्यासिता जनपदाः कीर्तनीयाश्च शोभिताः ।। ४३.
These regions, inhabited and adorned by illustrious men whose renowned names have spread, are worthy of being praised.
तेषान्तु नामधेयानि राष्ट्राणि विविधानि च। गिर्यन्तरनिविष्टानि समेषु विषमेषु च ।। ४३.
Their names, and the various kingdoms as well, are situated among the mountains, both on level ground and in rugged places.
तथा सुमङ्गलाः शुद्धाश्चन्द्रकान्ताः सुनन्दनाः। व्रजका नीलशैलेयाः सौवीरा विजयस्थलाः ।। ४३.
Thus, there are the Sumaṅgalas, the pure Śuddhas, the Moon-stone-like Candrakāntas, the joyful Sunandanas, the Vrajakas, the Nīla mountain dwellers, the Sauvīras, and the victorious Vijayasthalas.
महास्थलाः सुकामाश्च महाकेशाः सुमूर्द्धजाः। वातरंहाः सोपसङ्गाः परिवायाः पराचकाः ।। ४३.
There are the Mahāsthalas, the contented Sukāmas, the great-haired Mahākeśas, the well-tressed Sumūrddhajas, the swift Vātaraṃhās with their branches, the Parivāyas, and the Parācakas.
सम्भवक्रा महानेत्राः शैवालास्तनपास्तथा। कुमुदाः शाकमुण्डाश्च उरः सङ्कीर्णभौमकाः ।। ४३.
There are the Sambhavakras, the great-eyed Mahānetras, the Śaivālas, the Tanapās, the Kumudas, the Śākamuṇḍas, and those whose land is mingled at the breast.
सोदका वत्सकाश्चैके वाराहा हारवामकाः। शङ्खाख्या भाविसन्द्राश्च उत्तरा हैमभौमकाः ।। ४३.
Some are Sodakas and Vatsakas, others are Vārāhas and Hāravāmakas, the Śaṅkhas by name, the Bhāvisandras, and the northern Haimabhaumakas.
कृष्णभौमाः सुभौमाश्च महाभौमाश्च कीर्तिताः। एते चान्ये च विख्याता नानाजनपदा मया ।। ४३.
The Kṛṣṇabhaumas, Subhaumas, and Mahābhaumas are also named; these and others, various peoples, have been described by me.
ते पिबन्ति महापुण्यां महागङ्गां महानदीम्। आदौ त्रैलोक्यविख्याता शीता शीताम्बुवाहिनी ।। ४३.
They drink the supremely holy, great Gaṅgā, the great river—at first famed throughout the three worlds, cold, and bearing cool waters.
तथा च हंसवसतिर्महाचक्रा च निम्नगा। चक्रा वक्रा च कञ्ची च सुरसा चापगोत्तमा ।। ४३.
Likewise, Haṃsavasatī, Mahācakrā, Nimnagā, Cakrā, Vakrā, Kañcī, and Surasā, the best of rivers.
शाखावती चेन्द्रनदी मेघा मङ्गारवाहिनी। कावेरी हरितोया च सोमावर्त्ता शतह्रदा ।। ४३.
Śākhāvatī, Indranadī, Meghā, Maṅgāravāhinī, Kāverī, Haritoyā, Somāvarttā, and Śatahradā.
वनमाला वसुमती पम्पा पम्पावती शुभा। सुवर्णा पञ्च वर्णा च तथा पुण्या वपुष्मती ।। ४३.
Vanamālā, Vasumatī, Pampā, the auspicious Pampāvatī, Suvarṇā, Pañcavarṇā, and the blessed Vapuṣmatī.
मणिवप्रा सुवप्रा च ब्रह्मभागा शिलाशिनी। कृष्णतोया च पुण्योदा तथा नागपदी शुभा ।। ४३.
Maṇivaprā, Suvaprā, Brahmabhāgā, Śilāśinī, Kṛṣṇatoyā, Puṇyodā, and the auspicious Nāgapadī.
शैवालिनी मणितटा क्षारोदा चारुणावती। तथा विष्णुपदी चैव महापुण्या महानदी ।। ४३.
Śaivālinī, Maṇitaṭā, Kṣārodā, Āruṇāvatī, and likewise Viṣṇupadī, the supremely holy, great river.
हिरण्यवाहिनीला च स्कन्दमाला सुरावती । वामोदा च पताका च वेताली च महानदी ।। ४३.
Hiraṇyavāhinī, Nīlā, Skandamālā, Surāvatī, Vāmodā, Patākā, Vetālī, and Mahānadī—
एता गङ्गा महानद्यो नायिकाः परिकीर्तिताः। क्षुद्रनद्यस्त्वसंख्याताः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः ।। ४३.
These are the great rivers, the Gaṅgās, renowned as leading streams; while the lesser rivers are countless, in their hundreds and thousands.
पूर्वद्वीपस्य वोहिन्यः पुण्यवत्यश्च कीर्तिताः। कीर्त्तनेनापि चैतासां पूतः स्यादिति मे मतिः ।। ४३.
These are the celebrated, meritorious rivers of the Eastern continent; and even by merely reciting their names, one becomes purified—so is my conviction.
समृद्धराष्ट्रं स्फीतञ्च नानाजनपदाकुलम्। नानावृक्षवनोद्देशं नानानग सुवेष्टितम् ।। ४३.
That land is prosperous and flourishing, crowded with many peoples, adorned with groves of various trees, and encircled by many mountains.
नरनारीगणाकीर्णं नित्यं प्रमुदितं शिवम्। बहुधान्यधनोपेतं नानानृपतिपालितम् । उपेतं कीर्तनशतैर्नानारत्नाकराकरम् ।। ४३.
It is filled with multitudes of men and women, ever joyful and auspicious, endowed with abundant grain and wealth, ruled by many kings, renowned through hundreds of praises, and rich with various mines of jewels.
तस्मिन्देशे समाख्याता हेमशङ्खदलप्रभाः। महाकाया महावीर्याः पुरुषाः पुरुषर्षभाः ।। ४३.
In that country are found men of golden, conch-shell, and leaf-like radiance, of great size and great strength—truly the foremost among men.
सम्भाषणं दर्शनञ्च समस्थानोपसेवनम् । देवैः सह महाभागाः कुर्वते तत्र वै प्रजाः ।। ४३.
There, the blessed people converse, meet, and serve together with the gods themselves.
दशवर्षसहस्राणि तेषामायुः प्रकीर्तितम्। धर्माधर्मविशेषश्च न तेष्वस्ति महात्मसु। अहिंसा सत्यवाक्यञ्च प्रकृत्यैव हि वर्त्तते ।। ४३.
Their lifespan is said to be ten thousand years; among these great souls, there is no distinction of righteousness or unrighteousness, for nonviolence and truthfulness are their very nature.
ते भक्त्या शङ्करं देवं गौरीं परमवैष्णवीम्। इज्यापूजानमस्कारांस्ताभ्यां नित्यं प्रयुञ्जते ।। ४३.
With devotion, they always perform worship, adoration, and salutations to the god Śaṅkara and to Gaurī, the supreme devotee of Viṣṇu.
इति श्रीमहापुराणे वायुप्रोक्ते भुवनविन्यासो नाम त्रिचत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the forty-third chapter, called 'The Arrangement of the Worlds,' spoken by Vāyu in the glorious Mahāpurāṇa.
निसर्ग एष विख्यातो भद्राश्वानां यथार्थवत् । श्रृणुध्वं केतुमालानां विस्तरेण प्रकीर्त्तनम् ।। ४४.
This is the natural disposition, as is well known, of the Bhadrāśvas; now hear in detail the account of the Ketumālās.
निषधस्याचलेन्द्रस्य पश्चिमस्य महात्मनः। पश्चिमेन हि यत्तत्र दिक्षु सर्वासु कीर्तितम् ।। ४४.
Of Niṣadha, the great western mountain, all that lies to its west in every direction is described here.
कुलाचलानां सप्तानां नदीनाञ्च विशेषतः। तथा जनपदानाञ्च विस्तरं श्रोतुमर्हथ ।। ४४.
You should now hear in detail about the seven Kulācalas, especially their rivers, as well as the various peoples dwelling there.
विशालः कम्बलः कृष्णो जयन्तो हरिपर्वतः। अशोको वर्द्धमानश्च सप्तैते कुलपर्व्वताः ।। ४४.
Viśāla, Kambala, Kṛṣṇa, Jayanta, Hariparvata, Aśoka, and Vardhamāna—these are the seven Kulaparvatas.
तेषां प्रसूतिरन्येऽपि पर्वता बहुविस्तराः। कोटिकोटिशता ज्ञेयाः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः ।। ४४.
Besides these, there are many other mountains of vast extent, known to be in their tens of millions, hundreds, and thousands.
तैर्विमिश्रा जनपदा नानाजातिसमाकुलाः। नानाप्रकारविज्ञेयास्त्वनेकनृपपालिताः ।। ४४.
Among them are mingled many regions, crowded with peoples of various kinds, known for their diverse forms, and ruled by many different kings.
