गजशैले भगवतो नानाभूतगणावृताः । रुद्राः प्रमुदिता नित्यं सर्वभूतनमस्कृताः ।। ३९.
On Gajashaila, surrounded by hosts of various beings, the Rudras dwell, ever joyful and worshipped by all creatures.
सुमेधे धातुचित्राढ्ये शैलेन्द्रे मेघसन्निभे। नैकोदरदरीवप्रनिकुञ्जैश्चोपशोभिते ।। ३९.
On Sumedha, the lord of mountains, resplendent with veins of minerals and resembling a mass of clouds, adorned with many caves and forested slopes—
आदित्यानां वसूनाञ्च रुद्राणाञ्चामितौजसाम्। तत्रायतनविन्यासा रम्याश्चैवाश्विनोरपि ।। ३९.
There are beautiful shrines of the Adityas, Vasus, and Rudras of boundless might, as well as of the Ashvins.
स्थानानि सिद्धैर्देवानां स्थापितानि नगोत्तमे। तत्र पूजापरा नित्यं यक्ष गन्धर्वकिन्नराः ।। ३९.
On the supreme mountain, the Siddhas have established the abodes of the gods; there, Yakshas, Gandharvas, and Kinnaras are always engaged in worship.
गन्धर्वनगरी स्फीता हेमकक्षे नगोत्तमे। अशीत्यामरपुर्य्याभा महाप्राकारतोरणा ।। ३९.
On the supreme mountain is the flourishing city of the Gandharvas, Hemakaksha, resplendent with mighty walls and gateways, rivaling eighty celestial cities.
सिद्धा ह्यपत्तना नाम गन्धर्वा युद्ध शालिनः। येषामधिपतिर्देवो राजराजः कपिञ्जलः ।। ३९.
There are the Siddhas, called Apattana, and the Gandharvas skilled in battle, whose lord is the god Kapiñjala, king of kings.
अनले राक्षसावासाः पञ्चकूटेऽपि दानवाः। ऊर्जिता देवरिपवो महाबलपराक्रमाः ।। ३९.
On Anala dwell the Rakshasas, and on Panchakuta the Danavas—powerful enemies of the gods, mighty and valorous.
शतश्रृङ्गे पुरशतं यक्षाणाममितौजसाम्। ताम्राभे काद्रवेयस्य तक्षकस्य पुरोत्तमम् ।। ३९.
On Shatashringa, there are a hundred cities of the Yakshas of boundless energy, and the foremost city of Takshaka, the son of Kadru, shining with a coppery hue.
विशाखे पर्वतश्रेष्ठे नैकवप्रदरीशुभे। गुहानिरतवासस्य गुहस्यायतनं महत् ।। ३९.
On Vishakha, the foremost of mountains, beautiful with many caves and forested slopes, is the great abode of Guha, who delights in caves.
श्वेतोदरे महाशैले महाभवनमण्डिते। पुरं गरुढपुत्रस्य सुनाभस्य महात्मनः ।। ३९.
On Shvetodara, the great mountain adorned with splendid palaces, is the city of Sunabha, the noble son of Garuda.
पिशाचके गिरिवरे हर्म्यं प्रासाद मण्डितम्। यक्षगन्धर्वचरितं कुबेरभवनं महत् ।। ३०.
On Piśāca mountain, the splendid palace adorned with mansions, frequented by Yakṣas and Gandharvas, is the great abode of Kubera.
हरिकूटे हरिर्देवः सर्वभूतनमस्कृतः। प्रभावात्तस्य शैलोऽसौ महानाभः प्रकाशते ।। ३९.
On Harikūṭa, Hari the god is worshipped by all beings; by his power, that mountain shines forth with great radiance.
कुमुदे किन्नरावासा अञ्जने च महोरगाः। कृष्णे गन्धर्व्वनगरा महाभवनशालिनः ।। ३९.
On Kumuda dwell the Kinnaras; on Añjana, the mighty serpents; on Kṛṣṇa, the Gandharvas with their cities, possessing grand palaces.
पाण्डुरे चारुशिखरे महाप्राकारतोरणे। विद्याधरपुरं तत्र महाभवनमालिनम् ।। ३९.
On Pāṇḍura, with its beautiful peak and great ramparts and gateways, is the city of the Vidyādharas, adorned with magnificent mansions.
सहस्रशिखरे शैले दैत्यानामुग्रकर्म्मणाम्। पुराणि समुदीर्णानां सहस्रं हेममालिनाम् ।। ३९.
On Sahasraśikhara mountain, the Daityas of fierce deeds have a thousand ancient cities, all adorned with gold.
मुकुटे पन्नगावासा अनेकाः पर्वतोत्तमाः। पुष्पके वै मुनिगणा नित्यमेव मुदा युताः ।। ३९.
On Mukuṭa reside many serpents; on Puṣpaka, groups of sages always dwell, filled with joy.
वैवस्वतस्य सोमस्य वायोर्नागाधिपस्य च। सुपक्षे पर्वतवरे चत्वार्य्यायतनानि च ।। ३९.
On the best of mountains, Suparṇa, there are four sacred abodes belonging to Vaivasvata, Soma, Vāyu, and the lord of serpents.
गन्धर्वैः किन्नरैर्यक्षैर्न्नागैर्विद्याधरोत्तमैः। सिद्धैर्हि तेषु स्थानेषु नित्यमिष्टः प्रपूज्यते ।। ३९.
In those places, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, Yakṣas, Nāgas, the foremost Vidyādharas, and Siddhas are always honored and worshipped.
मर्य्यादापर्वते शुभ्रे देवकूटे निबोधत। विस्तीर्णे सिखरे तस्य कूटे गिरिवरस्य ह ।। ४०.
Hear now of the pure mountain boundary, Devakūṭa, with its broad summit, a peak of the best of mountains.
समन्ताद्योजनशतं महाभवनमण्डितम्। जन्मक्षेत्रं सुपर्णस्य वैनतेयस्य धीमतः ।। ४०.
All around, for a hundred yojanas, is a region adorned with great palaces, the birthplace of Suparṇa, the wise son of Vinatā.
नैकैर्महा पक्षिगणैर्गारुडैः शीग्रविक्रमैः। सम्पूर्णवीर्यसम्पन्नैर्दमनैरुरगारिभिः ।। ४०.
There reside many great flocks of Garuḍa birds, swift in their might, full of strength and valor, subduers of serpents.
पक्षिराजस्य भवनं प्रथमं तन्महात्मनः। महावायुप्रवेशस्य शाल्मलि द्वीपवासिनः ।। ४०.
The first palace of the great-souled king of birds is there, the dwelling of the mighty wind, inhabited by those of Śālmalīdvīpa.
तस्यैव चारुमूर्ध्नस्तु कूटेषु च महर्द्धिषु। दक्षिणेषु विचित्रेषु सप्तस्वपि तु शोभिनः ।। ४०.
On its lovely summit, among the peaks of great splendor, on the southern, wondrous seven, all shining brightly.
सन्ध्याभ्राभाः समुदिता रुक्मप्राकारतोरणाः। महाभवनमालाभिः शोभिता देवनिर्मिताः ।। ४०.
Resembling the glow of twilight clouds, with golden ramparts and gateways, adorned with rows of great palaces, all made by the gods.
त्रिंशद्योजनविस्तीर्णाश्चत्वारिंशत्तमायताः। सप्त गन्धर्वनगरा नर नारीसमाकुलाः ।। ४०.
There are seven Gandharva cities, each thirty yojanas wide and forty long, filled with crowds of men and women.
आग्नेया नाम गन्धर्वा महाबलपराक्रमाः। कुबेरानुचरा दीप्तास्तेषान्ते भवनोत्तमाः ।। ४०.
The Gandharvas called Āgneyā, of great strength and valor, attendants of Kubera, resplendent, have their excellent mansions at the end of these.
तस्य चोत्तरकूटेषु भुवनस्य महागिरेः। हर्म्यप्रासादबद्धं च उद्यानवनशोभितम् ।। ४०.
On the northern peaks of that great mountain, there is a city bound with mansions and palaces, beautified with gardens and groves.
पुरमाशीविषैः पुर्णं महाप्राकारतोरणम्। वादित्रशतनिर्घोषैरानन्दितवनान्तरम् ।। ४०.
The city, filled with mighty serpents, has great ramparts and gateways, and its forest outskirts are gladdened by the sounds of hundreds of musical instruments.
दुष्प्रसह्यममित्राणां त्रिंशद्योजनमण्डलम्। नगरं सैंहिकेयानामुदीर्णं देवविद्विषाम्। सिद्धदेवर्षिचरितं देवकूटे निबोधत ।। ४०.
Hear now of the city of the Saiṃhikeya demons, fierce enemies of the gods, spanning thirty yojanas in circumference, raised up by those who hate the gods, and renowned for the deeds of perfected beings, gods, and sages, situated at Devakūṭa.
द्वितीये द्विजशार्दूल मर्य्यादापर्वते शुभे। महाभवनमालाभिर्नानावर्णाभिरावृतम् ।। ४०.
On the second, auspicious mountain called Maryāda, O best of twice-born, there is a great city adorned with splendid mansions, enveloped in many colors.
