उपगीतपद्मखण्डाढ्या विस्तीर्णा स्थलपद्मिनी। यक्षगन्धर्वचरिता सिद्धचारणसेविता ।। ३८.
That expansive land of lotuses, rich with clusters of blooming flowers, is sung about by Yakṣas and Gandharvas, and attended by Siddhas and Cāraṇas.
मध्ये तस्याश्च पद्मिन्याः पञ्चयोजनमण्डलः। न्यग्रोधो विपुलस्कन्धो ह्यनेकारोहिमण्डितः ।। ३८.
In the center of that lotus land stands a banyan tree with a five-yojana-wide canopy, massive trunk, and adorned by many who climb it.
तत्र चन्द्रप्रभः श्रीमान् पूर्णचन्द्रनिभानन)। सहस्रवदनो देवो नीलवासाः सुरारिहा ।। ३८.
There, the illustrious Candraprabha, whose face resembles the full moon, the thousand-headed god, clad in blue, destroyer of the enemies of the gods, resides.
पद्म माल्यधरस्थल्यां महाभागोऽपराजितः। इज्यते यक्षगन्धर्वैर्विद्याधरगणैस्तथा ।। ३८.
On that lotus-garlanded ground, the glorious and unconquered one is worshipped by Yakṣas, Gandharvas, and hosts of Vidyādharas.
तस्मिन्नायतने साक्षादनादिनिधनो हरिः। पद्मोपहारौर्विविधै रिज्यते सिद्धचारणैः ।। ३८.
In that very temple, Hari, the beginningless and deathless, is directly worshipped by Siddhas and Cāraṇas with various offerings of lotuses.
तदनन्तसदो नाम सर्वलोकेषु विश्रुतम्। पद्ममालावलम्बाभिर्मालाभिरुपशोभितम् ।। ३८.
That place is known in all worlds as Anantasada, adorned with garlands of lotuses hanging in rows.
तथा सहस्रशिखरकुमुदस्यान्तरेण च। पञ्चाशद्योजनायामं त्रिंशद्योजनविस्तरम् । इषुक्षेपोच्चशिखरं नानाविहगसेवितम् ।। ३८.
Likewise, between the thousand-peaked Kumuda mountain, there is a region fifty yojanas long and thirty yojanas wide, with peaks as high as arrows can fly, frequented by various birds.
महागन्धैर्महास्वादैर्गजदेहनिभैः फलैः। मधुस्रवैर्महावृक्षैरुपेतं तत् समन्ततः ।। ३८.
That area is surrounded on all sides by great trees, bearing fruits as large as elephant bodies, fragrant and delicious, dripping with honey.
तत्राश्रमं महापुण्यं देवर्षिगणसेवितम्। शुक्रस्य प्रथितं तत्र भास्वरं पुण्यकर्मणः ।। ३८.
There, a highly sacred hermitage, frequented by hosts of divine sages, is renowned as the radiant abode of Śukra, famed for his virtuous deeds.
शङ्कुकूटस्य शैलस्य वृषभस्यान्तरेण च। परूषकस्थली रम्या ह्यनेकायतयोजना ।। ३८.
Between the peaks of Śaṅkukūṭa and Vṛṣabha mountains lies the delightful Parūṣaka plain, stretching for many yojanas.
बिल्वप्रमाणैश्च शुभैर्महास्वादैः सुगन्धिभिः। फलैः प्रक्लिद्यते भूमिः परुषैर्वृन्तविच्युतैः ।। ३८.
The ground is covered with excellent, fragrant, and delicious fruits, as large as bilva, scattered with rough stalks fallen from their stems.
तां स्थलीमुपजीवन्ति किन्नरोरगसाधवः। परूषकरसोन्मत्ता मानाढ्यास्तत्र चारणाः ।। ३८.
That land is inhabited by noble Kinnaras and Nāgas, intoxicated by the juice of Parūṣaka, and by proud Cāraṇas.
कपिञ्जलस्य शैलस्य नागशैलस्य चान्तरे। द्वियोजनशतायामा विस्तीर्णा शतयोजना ।। ३८.
Between the mountains of Kapiñjala and Nāga, the land extends for two hundred yojanas in length and one hundred yojanas in breadth.
स्थली मनोहरा सा हि नानावनविभूषिता । नानापुष्पफलोपेता किन्नरोरगसेविता ।। ३८.
That enchanting plain is adorned with various forests, filled with diverse flowers and fruits, and attended by Kinnaras and Nāgas.
द्राक्षावनानि रम्याणि तथा नागवनानि च। खर्जूरवनखण्डानि नीलाशोकवनानि च ।। ३८.
There are delightful vineyards, groves of nāga trees, clusters of date palms, and forests of blue aśoka trees.
दाडिमानाञ्च स्वादूनामक्षोटकवनानि च। अतसीतिलकानाञ्च कदलीनां वनानि च ।। ३८.
There are also groves of sweet pomegranates, akṣoṭa trees, atasi and tilaka trees, and banana forests.
बदरीणाञ्च स्वादूनां वनखण्डानि सर्वशः। स्वादुशीताम्बुपूर्णाभिर्नदीभिः शोभितानि च ।। ३८.
There are clusters of sweet jujube trees everywhere, beautified by rivers filled with sweet, cool water.
तथा पुष्पकशैलस्य महामेघस्य चान्तरे। षष्टियोजनविस्तीर्णा सा भूमिः शतमायता ।। ३८.
Likewise, between the mountains of Puṣpaka and Mahāmegha, the land is sixty yojanas wide and one hundred yojanas long.
समा पाणितलप्रख्या कठिना पाण्डुरा घना। वृक्षगुल्मलतागुल्मैस्तृणैश्वापि विवर्जिता ।। ३८.
That land is level, resembling the palm of a hand, hard, pale, and dense, devoid of trees, bushes, creepers, and even grass.
वर्जिता विविधैः सत्वैर्न्नित्यमस्मिन् निराश्रया। सा काननस्थली नाम दारुणा रोमहर्षणा ।। ३८.
Devoid of various living beings, always uninhabited, that place is called the forest plain, harsh and hair-raising.
महासरांसि च तथा महावृक्षास्तथैव च। महावनानि सर्वाणि कान्तनामानि सर्वशः ।। ३८.
There are great lakes, mighty trees, and vast forests, all bearing beautiful names throughout.
सरसाञ्च वनानाञ्च सा स्थली च प्रजापतेः। क्षुद्राणां सरसाञ्चैव सङ्ख्या तत्र न विद्यते ।। ३८.
That plain of Prajāpati contains lakes and forests, and the number of small lakes there is beyond reckoning.
दश द्वादश सप्ताष्टौ विंशत्र्रिंशच्च योजनाः। स्थल्यो द्रोण्यश्च विख्याताः सरांसि च वनानि च ।। ३८.
There are famous plains, valleys, lakes, and forests, measuring ten, twelve, seven, eight, twenty, and thirty yojanas.
केचित् सन्ति महाघोराः श्यामाः पर्वतकुक्षयः। सूर्यांशुजालैरस्पृष्टा नित्यं शीता दुरासदाः ।। ३८.
Some mountain hollows are extremely terrifying and dark, untouched by sunlight, always cold and difficult to approach.
तथा ह्यनलतप्तानि सरांसि द्विजसत्तमाः। शैलकुक्ष्यन्तरस्थानि सहस्राणि शतानि च ।। ३८.
Likewise, O best of twice-born, there are lakes heated by fire, thousands and hundreds, situated within mountain hollows.
अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि यस्मिन् यस्मिन् शिलोच्चये। ये सन्निविष्टा देवानां विविधानां गृहोत्तमाः ।। ३९.
Now I shall describe, in each mountain peak, the various splendid dwellings of the gods that are established there.
तत्र योऽसौ महाशैलः शीतान्तो नैक विस्तरः। नैकधातुशतैश्चित्रैर्नैकरत्नाकराकरः ।। ३९.
There stands that great mountain, cold at its summit, vast in its expanse, adorned with hundreds of varied minerals and filled with many wondrous treasures of gems.
नितम्बैः पुष्पसालम्बैर्नैकसत्त्वगुणालयः। महार्हमणिचित्राभिर्हेमवंशैरलंकृतः ।। ३९.
Its slopes are hung with flowering creepers, abodes of countless living beings and qualities, decorated with splendid golden bamboos and precious, variegated jewels.
नितम्बैः षट्पदोद्गीतैः प्रवालैर्हेमचित्रकैः। तटैः कुसुमसङ्कीर्णैर्मत्तभ्रमरनादितैः ।। ३९.
Its slopes resound with the songs of bees, adorned with coral and golden-hued branches, its banks thick with flowers and the buzzing of intoxicated bees.
लतालम्बैश्चित्रवद्भिश्चित्रैर्धातुशतार्चितैः। सानुभी रत्नचित्रैश्च पुष्पाढ्यैश्च विभूषितः ।। ३९.
It is embellished with hanging vines of many forms, adorned with hundreds of brilliant minerals, its plateaus shining with jewels and abundant with flowers.
