The sons of Dyutimān, lord of Krauncadvīpa, were Kuśala, Manuga, Uṣṇa, Pīvara, Andhakāraka, Muni, and Dundubhi.
The auspicious regions of Krauncadvīpa are named after them; the region of Uṣṇa is called Uṣṇa, and that of Pīvara is called Pīvara.
The region called Andhakāraka and the darkness itself are spoken of; the land of the sage is for the sage, and Dundubhi is remembered as Dundubhi's. These are the seven shining countries on the Krauncha continent.
On Kuśa Island, these seven, full of great energy, are called the Jyotiṣmats: Udbhida, Veṇumāna, Svairatha, Lavaṇa, Dhṛti, Prabhākara as the sixth, and Kapila as the seventh.
Udbhida is the first region, the second is the Veṇumaṇḍala, the third is known as the form of Svairatha, and the fourth is called Lavaṇa.
The fifth region is called Dhṛtimat, the sixth is Prabhākara, and the seventh is named Kapila, renowned as Kapila's.
Their islands on Kuśa Island are named after them, adorned with peoples endowed with the practices of hermitages and teachers.
On Śālmalī, the seven rulers are the sons of Vapuṣmat: Śveta, Harita, Jīmūta, Rohita, Vaidyuta, Mānasa, and the seventh, Suprabha.
Śveta's land is called Śveta, Rohita's is Rohita, Jīmūta's is Jīmūta, and Harita's is Hārita.
Vaidyuta is for Vaidyuta, Mānasa for Mānasa, and Suprabha for Suprabha; these seven are the guardians of the regions.
Now I will describe the seven islands, beginning after Jambūdvīpa: the seven sons of Medhātithi are the kings, rulers of Plakṣa Island.
Of them, the eldest is Śāntabhaya; these are the seven regions. From Śāntabhaya come Śiśira, Sukhodaya, Ānanda, Dhruva, Kṣemaka, and Śiva.
These are their names, the seven regions, each a portion; they were established by them in the former Svāyambhuva Manvantara.
By those sons of Medhātithi, the inhabitants of the seven islands, the people of Plakṣa Island were established, endowed with the practices of the orders and castes.
In Plakṣa and the other islands, and in the regions beyond Śāka Island, the law is known to be fivefold, according to the divisions of caste and order.
Happiness, long life, beauty, strength, and righteousness—these five are always common to all these five islands.
Hear now of Jambūdvīpa, encircled by the seven islands: Priyavrata anointed Āgnīdhra, his eldest and most powerful son by Kanyā, as king and lord of Jambūdvīpa.
His sons were as mighty as Prajāpati: the eldest was Nābhi, so famed; his younger brother was Kimpuruṣa.
The third was Harivarṣa, the fourth was Ilāvṛta; the fifth son was Ramya, the sixth is called Hārimān.
The seventh among them was Kuru, Bhadrāśva is remembered as the eighth, and Ketumāla as the ninth; now hear of their regions.
The southern region from Nābhi, called Himāhva, the father gave; and the region called Hemakūṭa, he gave to Kimpuruṣa.
The region known as Naiṣadha, he gave to Harivarṣa; and the central part of Sumeru, he gave to Ilāvṛta.
The region called Nīla, the father gave to Ramyā; and the northern Śveta, O wise one, was given by the father as well.
The northern region of Śṛṅgavān he gave to Kuru; and the region of Mālyavat he entrusted to Bhadrāśva.
The region of Gandhamādana he assigned to Ketumāla; thus these are the great nine regions, each allotted in turn.
Āgnīdhra installed all his sons over these regions in due order, that righteous soul, and then remained engaged in austerity.
Thus, by these sons, all the seven continents were settled, by the sons and grandsons of Priyavrata, the descendant of Svāyambhuva.
The eight auspicious regions, beginning with Kimpuruṣa, naturally attain fulfillment for their inhabitants, who mostly enjoy happiness effortlessly.
There is no reversal for them, nor old age or death; for them, there is neither righteousness nor unrighteousness, nor higher, lower, or middle status; nor is there any change of ages, but only in the lands themselves.
Now I shall speak of the creation from Nābhi; listen to this concerning Himāhva. Nābhi, of great splendor, begot a son by Merudevī, Ṛṣabha, foremost among kings and ancestor of all Kṣatriyas.
