यथा सर्वेषु देवेषु वरिष्ठो योगवान् हरः। तथा स्तवो वरिष्ठोऽयं स्तवानां ब्रह्मनिर्मितः ।। ३०.
Just as Hara, endowed with yoga, is the most excellent among all the gods, so too is this hymn, created by Brahma, the most excellent among hymns.
यशोराज्यसुखैश्वर्यवित्तायुर्धनकाङ्क्षिभिः। स्तोतव्यो भक्तिमास्थाय विद्याकामैश्च यत्नतः ।। ३०.
Those who desire fame, sovereignty, happiness, wealth, long life, or riches should praise with devotion and effort, and also those who seek knowledge.
व्याधितो दुःखितो दीनश्चौरत्रस्तो भयार्दितः। राजकार्यनियुक्तो वा मुच्यते महतो भयात् ।। ३०.
One who is afflicted by disease, suffering, poverty, fear of thieves, or overwhelmed by fear, or engaged in royal duties, is freed from great fear.
अनेन चैव देहेन गणानां स गणाधिपः। इह लोके सुखं प्राप्य गण एवोपपद्यते ।। ३०.
With this very body, he becomes the leader of the hosts of Ganas; having attained happiness in this world, he is born among the Ganas.
न च यक्षाः पिशाचा वा न नागा न विनायकाः। कुर्युर्विघ्नं गृहे तस्य यत्र संस्तूयते भवः ।। ३०.
Neither Yakshas, nor Pisachas, nor Nagas, nor Vinayakas cause obstacles in the house where Bhava is praised.
श्रृणुयाद्वा इदं नारी सुभक्त्या ब्रह्मचारिणी। पितृभिर्भर्तृपक्षाभ्यां पूज्या भवति देववत् ।। ३०.
If a woman, devoted and observing chastity, hears this, she becomes worthy of worship by her ancestors and both her husband's and her own family, like a goddess.
श्रृणुयाद्वा इदं सर्व कीर्त्तयेद्वाप्यभीक्ष्णशः। तस्य सर्वाणि कार्याणि सिद्धिं गच्छन्त्यविघ्नतः ।। ३०.
Whoever hears or repeatedly recites this in its entirety, all their undertakings are accomplished without obstacles.
मनसा चिन्तितं यच्च यच्च वाचाप्युदाहृतम्। सर्वं सम्पद्यते तस्य स्तवनस्यानुकीर्त्तनात् ।। ३०.
Whatever is contemplated in the mind or uttered by speech, all is fulfilled for him through the repeated recitation of this hymn.
देवस्य सगुहस्याथ देव्या नन्दीश्वरस्य तु। बलिं विभवतः कृत्वा दमेन नियमेन च ।। ३०.
Having offered worship to the god, to Saguhya, to the goddess, and to Nandishvara, according to one's means, with self-control and discipline—
ततः स युक्तो गृह्णीयान्नामान्याशु यथाक्रमम्। ईप्सितान् लभतेऽत्यर्थं कामान् भोगांश्च मानवः। मृतश्च स्वर्गमाप्नोति स्त्रीसहस्रपरिवृतः ।। ३०.
Then, being thus prepared, he should quickly take up the names in order; the man attains all desired enjoyments and pleasures in abundance, and after death, reaches heaven, surrounded by a thousand women.
सर्व कर्मसु युक्तो वा युक्तो वा सर्वपातकैः। पठन् दक्षकृतं स्तोत्रं सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते। मृतश्च गणसालोक्यं पूज्यमानः सुरासुरैः ।। ३०.
Whether engaged in all actions or even burdened with all sins, by reciting the hymn composed by Daksha, he is freed from all sins, and after death attains the world of the Ganas, honored by gods and asuras.
वृषेव विधियुक्तेन विमानेन विराजते। आभूतसंप्लवस्थायी रुद्रस्यानुचरो भवेत् ।। ३०.
He shines like a bull in a properly constructed chariot, and remains as an attendant of Rudra until the dissolution of beings.
इत्याह भगवान् व्यासः पराशरसुतः प्रभुः । नैतद्वेदयते कश्चिन्नेदं श्राव्यन्तु कस्यचित् ।। ३०.
Thus spoke the blessed Vyasa, the mighty son of Parashara: No one should reveal this, nor should it be made heard by anyone.
श्रुत्वैतत्परमं गुह्यं येऽपि स्युः पापकारिणः। वैश्याः स्त्रियश्च शूद्राश्च रुद्रलोकमवाप्नुयुः ।। ३०.
Even those who are sinners, as well as Vaishyas, women, and Shudras, upon hearing this supreme secret, attain the world of Rudra.
श्रावयेद्यस्तु विप्रेभ्यः सदा पर्वसु पर्वसु। रुद्रलोकमवाप्नोति द्विजो वै नात्र संशयः ।। ३०.
Whoever causes this to be recited to Brahmins always, at every festival, that twice-born surely attains the world of Rudra; there is no doubt.
इत्येषा समनुज्ञाता कथा पापप्रणाशिनी। या दक्षमधिकृत्येह कथा शर्वादुपागता ।। ३१.
Thus this story, which destroys sin, has been permitted—this story concerning Daksha, which has come from Sharva.
पितृवंशप्रसङ्गेन कथा ह्येषा प्रकीर्तिता। पितॄणामानुपूर्व्येण देवान् वक्ष्याम्यतः परम् ।। ३१.
This story has been told in connection with the lineage of the ancestors; now, in order, I shall speak further of the gods.
त्रेतायुगमुखे पूर्वमासन् स्वायम्भुवेऽन्तरे । देवा यामा इति ख्याताः पूर्वं ये यज्ञसूनवः ।। ३१.
At the beginning of the Treta Yuga, in the previous Svayambhuva Manvantara, the gods known as Yamas, formerly the sons of Yajna, existed.
अजिता ब्रह्मणः पुत्रा जिता जिदजिताश्च ये। पुत्राः स्वायम्भुवस्यैते शुक्रनाम्ना मानसाः ।। ३१.
Ajita and Jita, and those called Jidajita, are the mind-born sons of Brahma; these are the sons of Svayambhuva, known by the name Shukra.
तृप्तिमन्तो गणा ह्येते देवानान्तु त्रयः स्मृताः । छन्दोगास्तु त्रयस्त्रिंशत्सर्वे स्वायम्भुवस्य ह ।। ३१.
These groups, called the Triptimantas, are remembered as three classes of gods; and the Chandogas, numbering thirty-three, are all of Svayambhuva.
यदुर्ययातिर्द्वौ देवौ दीधयः स्रवसो मतिः। विभासश्च क्रतुश्चैव प्रजातिर्विशतो द्युतिः ।। ३१.
Yadu and Yayati, two gods; Didhaya, Sravas, Mati, Vibhāsa, Kratu, Prajati, Vishata, and Dyuti.
वायसो मङ्गलश्चैव यामा द्वादश कीर्तिताः। अभिमन्युरुग्रदृष्टिः समयोऽथ शुचिश्रवाः। केवलो विश्वरूपश्च सुपक्षो मधुपस्तथा ।। ३१.
Vayasa and Mangala, and the twelve Yamas are named: Abhimanyu, Ugradṛṣṭi, Samaya, Shucishrava, Kevala, Vishvarupa, Supaksha, and also Madhuparka.
तुरीयो निर्हपुश्चैव युक्तो ग्रावाजिनस्तु ते। यमिनो विश्वदेवाद्यं यविष्ठोऽमृतवानपि ।। ३१.
Turiya, Nirhapu, Yukta, and Gravajin—these are the Yaminas, the foremost of the Vishvadevas; Yavishta and Amritavan as well.
अजिरो विभुर्विभावश्च मृलिकोऽथ दिदेहकः। श्रुतिश्रृणो बृहच्छुक्रो देवा द्वादश कीर्तिताः ।। ३१.
Ajira, Vibhu, Vibhava, Mrilika, Didehaka, Shruti, Shrina, Brihachshukra—these twelve gods are named.
आसन् स्वायम्भुवस्यैते अन्तरे सोमपायिनः। त्विषिमन्तो गणा ह्येते वीर्यवन्तो महाबलाः ।। ३१.
These were the Soma-drinking gods among the descendants of Svayambhuva; these groups, endowed with brilliance, were mighty and powerful.
तेषामिन्द्रः सदा ह्यासीद्विश्वभुक् प्रथमो विभुः। असुरा येतदा तेषामासन् दायादबान्धवाः ।। ३१.
Among them, Indra was always the lord, the first and all-pervading; at that time, the Asuras were their kinsmen and heirs.
सुपर्णयक्षगन्धर्वाः पिशाचोरगराक्षसाः। अष्टौ ते पितृभिः सार्द्धं नासत्या देवयोनयः ।। ३१.
Suparnas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, Pisachas, Nagas, and Rakshasas—these eight, together with the Pitrs, are divine lineages called Nasatyas.
स्वायम्भुवेऽन्तरेऽतीताः प्रजास्त्वासां सहस्रशः। प्रभावरूपसम्पन्ना आयुषा च बलेन च ।। ३१.
In the Svayambhuva interval, countless beings were born, endowed with splendor, form, longevity, and strength.
विस्तरादिह नोच्यन्ते मा प्रसङ्गो भवत्विह। स्वायम्भुवो निसर्गश्च विज्ञेयः साम्प्रतं मनुः ।। ३१.
Their details are not recounted here, lest the account become too lengthy; know that Svayambhuva and his creation are being described now.
अतीते वर्त्तमानेन दृष्टो वैवस्वतेन सः। प्रजाभिर्देवताभिश्च ऋषिभिः पितृभिः सह ।। ३१.
That past is seen by the present Vaivasvata, along with the peoples, gods, sages, and ancestors.
