तमुवाचाञ्जलिं कृत्वा दक्षो देवं प्रजापतिः। भीतशङ्कितवित्रस्तः सबाष्पवदनेक्षणः ।। ३०.
Daksha, the lord of creatures, with joined palms, trembling, fearful, and tearful-eyed, spoke to the god.
यदि प्रसन्नो भगवान् यदि वाहं तव प्रियः। यदि वाहमनुग्राह्यो यदि देयो वरो मम ।। ३०.
If the Blessed Lord is pleased, if I am dear to you, if I am to be shown favor, if a boon is to be granted to me,
यज्जग्धं भक्षितं पीतमशितं यच्च नाशितम्। चूर्णीकृतञ्जापविद्धं यज्ञसम्भारमीदृशम् ।। ३०.
Whatever has been drunk, eaten, consumed, or destroyed, whatever has been ground to powder or thrown away—such sacrificial materials as these,
दीर्घकालेन महता प्रयत्नेन च सञ्चितम्। तन्न मिथ्या भवेन्मह्यं वरमेतं वृणोम्यहम् ।। ३०.
Gathered over a long time with great effort, let none of it be lost to me—this is the boon I choose.
तथास्त्वित्याह भगवान् भगनेत्रहयो हरः। धर्माध्यक्षं महादेवं त्र्यक्षन्तं वै प्रजापतिः ।। ३०.
Thus be it, said the Lord, the one with the eyes of fortune, Hara; Prajapati addressed Mahadeva, the overseer of dharma, the three-eyed one.
जानुभ्यामवनिं गत्वा दक्षो लब्ध्वा भवाद्वरम्। नाम्नामष्टसहस्रेण स्तुतवान् वृषभध्वजम् ।। ३०.
Daksha, having received a boon from Bhava, approached the earth on his knees and praised the one with the bull-banner with eight thousand names.
नमस्ते देवदेवेश देवारिबलसूदन। देवेन्द्र ह्यमरश्रेष्ठ देवदानवपूजित ।। ३०.
Salutations to you, Lord of gods, destroyer of the strength of the enemies of the gods; O Indra of gods, foremost among immortals, worshipped by gods and demons.
सहस्राक्ष विरूपाक्ष त्र्यक्ष यक्षाधिपप्रिय। सर्वतः पाणिपादस्त्वं सर्वतोऽक्षिशिरोमुखः। सर्वतः श्रुतिमान् लोके सर्वानावृत्य तिष्ठसि ।। ३०.
O thousand-eyed, deformed-eyed, three-eyed, beloved of the lord of Yakshas; you have hands and feet everywhere, eyes, heads, and faces everywhere; you possess hearing everywhere in the world, you stand enveloping all.
शङ्कुकर्ण महाकर्ण कुम्भकर्णार्णवालय। गजेन्द्रकर्ण गोकर्ण पाणिकर्ण नमोऽस्तु ते ।। ३०.
O conch-eared, great-eared, ocean-encompassing like Kumbhakarna, elephant-eared, cow-eared, hand-eared, salutations to you.
शतोदर शतावर्त्त शतजिह्व शतानन। गायन्ति त्वां गायत्रिणो ह्यर्च्चयन्ति तथार्च्चिनः ।। ३०.
O hundred-bellied, hundred-circling, hundred-tongued, hundred-faced; the singers of Gayatri sing to you, and those who worship, worship you likewise.
देवदानवगोप्ता च ब्रह्मा च त्वं शतक्रतुः। मूर्त्तीशस्त्वं महामूर्ते समुद्राम्बु धराय च ।। ३०.
Protector of gods and demons, you are Brahma and Shatakratu; you are the forms, O great-formed one, and the waters of the ocean and the earth.
सर्वा ह्यस्मिन् देवतास्ते गावो गोष्ठ इवासते। शरीरन्ते प्रपश्यामि सोममग्निं जलेश्वरम् ।। ३०.
All the deities reside in you as cows in a cowshed; at the end of the body I perceive Soma, Agni, and the lord of waters.
आदित्यमथ विष्णुञ्च ब्रह्माणं सबृहस्पतिम्। क्रिया कार्य्यं कारणञ्च कर्त्ता करणमेव च ।। ३०.
You are Aditya, Vishnu, Brahma, and Brihaspati; action, work, cause, doer, and instrument as well.
असच्च सदसच्चैव तथैव प्रभवाव्ययम्। नमो भवाय शर्वाय रुद्राय वरदाय च ।। ३०.
You are the existent and the non-existent, likewise the source and the imperishable; salutations to Bhava, Sharva, Rudra, and the bestower of boons.
पशूनां पतये चैव नमस्त्वन्धकघातिने। त्रिजटाय त्रिशीर्षाय त्रिशूलवरधारिणे ।। ३०.
Salutations to the lord of beasts and to the slayer of Andhaka; to the three-knotted, three-headed, bearer of the excellent trident.
त्र्यम्बकाय त्रिनेत्राय त्रिपुरघ्नाय वै नमः। नमश्चण्डाय मुण्डाय प्रचण्डाय धराय च ।। ३०.
Salutations to Tryambaka, the three-eyed, the destroyer of the three cities; salutations to the fierce, the shaven-headed, the exceedingly fierce, and to the earth.
दण्डि(?) मासक्तकर्णाय दण्डिमुण्डाय वै नमः। नमोऽर्द्धदण्डकेशाय निष्काय विकृताय च ।। ३०.
Salutations to the staff-bearing, to the one whose ears are attached to the months, to the staff-shaven; salutations to the half-staff-haired, to the ornamented, and to the deformed.
विलोहिताय धूम्राय नालग्रीवाय ते नमः। नमस्त्वप्रतिरूपाय शिवाय च नमोऽस्तु ते ।। ३०.
Salutations to the deeply red, to the smoky, to the one with a reed-neck; salutations to the incomparable, to Shiva, and salutations to you.
सूर्य्याय सूर्य्यपतये सूर्य्यध्वजपताकिने। नमः प्रमथनाथाय वृषस्कन्धाय धन्विने ।। ३०.
Salutations to the sun, to the lord of the sun, to the one whose banner is the sun; salutations to the lord of the Pramathas, to the bull-shouldered, to the archer.
नमो हिरण्यगर्भाय हिरण्यकवचाय च। हिरण्यकृतचूडाय हिरण्यपतये नमः ।। ३०.
Salutations to the golden-wombed, to the golden-armored; to the one with a golden crest, salutations to the lord of gold.
सत्रघाताय दण्डाय वर्णपानपुटाय च। नमः स्तुताय स्तुत्याय स्तूयमानाय वै नमः ।। ३०.
Salutations to the destroyer of sacrifices, to the staff, to the one with colored drinking vessels; salutations to the praised, to the praiseworthy, to the one being praised.
सर्वायाभक्ष्यभक्ष्याय सर्वभूतान्त्तरात्मने। नमो होत्राय मन्त्राय शुक्लध्वजपताकिने ।। ३०.
Salutations to the one who is all, who is to be eaten and not to be eaten, to the inner soul of all beings; salutations to the sacrificer, to the mantra, to the one whose banner is white.
नमो नमाय नम्याय नमः किलिकिलाय च। नमस्ते शयमानाय शयितायोत्थिताय च ।। ३०.
Salutations to the One who is to be bowed to, who is worthy of reverence, and to the One who utters the sound 'kilkila'; obeisance to You who lie down, who are lying, and who have arisen.
स्थिताय चलमानाय मुद्राय कुटिलाय च। नप्नो नर्त्तनशीलाय मुखवादित्रकारिणे ।। ३०.
To the One who stands firm, who moves, who is a gesture, and who is crooked; to the One who is fond of leaping and dancing, and who makes music with the mouth, salutations.
नाट्योपहारलुब्धाय गीतवाद्यरताय च। नमो ज्येष्ठाय श्रेष्ठाय बलप्रमथनाय च ।। ३०.
To the One greedy for offerings of drama, who delights in song and instrumental music; salutations to the eldest, the best, and the destroyer of strength.
कलनाय च कल्पाय क्षयायोपक्षयाय च। भीमदुन्दुभिहासाय भीमसेनप्रियाय च ।। ३०.
To the One who is calculation and imagination, who is decay and also diminution; to the One whose laughter is like a terrible drum, and who is dear to Bhimasena, salutations.
उग्राय च नमो नित्यं नमस्ते दशबाहवे। नमः कपालहस्ताय चिताभस्मप्रियाय च ।। ३०.
To the fierce One, I bow always; obeisance to You, O ten-armed One; salutations to the One who holds a skull in hand and who delights in funeral ashes.
विभीषणाय भीष्माय भीष्मव्रतधराय च। नमो विकृतवक्षाय खड्गजिह्वाग्रदंष्ट्रिणे ।। ३०.
To the terrifying One, to the formidable, to the upholder of terrible vows; salutations to the One with a deformed chest, whose tongue and fangs are like swords.
पक्वाममांसलुब्धाय तुम्बवीणाप्रियाय च। नमो वृषाय वृष्याय वृष्णये वृषणाय च ।। ३०.
To the One who craves both cooked and raw flesh, who delights in the lute and the vina; salutations to the bull, the virile, the descendant of Vrishni, and the mighty.
कटङ्कटाय चण्डाय नमः सावयवाय च। नमस्ते वरकृष्णाय वराय वरदाय च ।। ३०.
To the One who is harsh and fierce, salutations; to the One with limbs, I bow; obeisance to the excellent Krishna, to the best, and to the giver of boons.
