चतुस्त्रिंशद्यवीयस्यस्तेषामप्सरसः शुभाः । अन्तरा दारवत्या च प्रियमुख्या सुरोत्तमा ॥ ८.
Among them, thirty-four splendid Apsaras are found, especially those of Dāravatī, with Priyamukhī and other excellent divine women.
मिश्रकेशी तथा शाची पर्णिनी वाप्यलम्बुषा। मारीची पुत्रिका चैव विद्युद्वर्णा तिलोत्तमा ॥ ८.
Miśrakeśī, Śācī, Parṇinī, Vāpyalambuṣā, Mārīcī, Putrikā, Vidyudvarṇā, and Tilottamā are named.
अद्रिका लक्षणा चैव देवी रम्भा मनोरमा। सुवरा च सुबाहुश्च पूर्णिता सुप्रतिष्ठिता ॥ ८.
Adrikā, Lakṣaṇā, Devī, Rambhā, Manoramā, Suvarā, Subāhu, Pūṛṇitā, and Supratiṣṭhitā are included.
पुण्डरीका सुगन्धा च सुदन्ता सुरसा तथा। हेमासरा सुती चैव सुवृत्ता कमला च या ॥ ८.
Puṇḍarīkā, Sugandhā, Sudantā, Surasā, Hemāsarā, Sutī, Suvṛttā, and Kamalā are among them.
सुभुजा हंसपादा च लौकिक्योऽप्सरसस्तथा। गन्धर्वाप्सरसो ह्येता मौनेयाः परिकीर्तिताः ॥ ८.
Subhujā, Haṃsapādā, and Laukikī are Apsaras; these Gandharvas and Apsaras descended from Muni are thus named.
गन्धर्वाणां दुहितरो मया याः परिकीर्त्तिताः। तासां नामानि सर्वासां कीर्त्त्यमानानि मे श्रृणु ॥ ८.
The daughters of the Gandharvas, whom I have described, listen as I recite the names of all of them.
सुयशा प्रथमा तासां गान्धर्वी तदनन्तरम् । विद्यावती चारुमुखी सुमुखी च वरानना ॥ ८.
Suyaśā is the first among them, followed by Gāndharvī; then Vidyāvatī, Cārumukhī, Sumukhī, and Varānanā.
तत्रेमे सुयशापुत्रा महाबलपराक्रमाः। प्रचेतसः सुता यक्षास्तेषां नामानि मे श्रृणु ॥ ८.
Here are the sons of Suyaśā, mighty and valiant; they are the Yakṣas, sons of Pracetasa. Listen to their names from me.
कम्बलो हरिकेशश्च कपिलः काञ्चनस्तथा। मेघमालीतु यक्षाणां गण एष उदाहृतः ॥ ८.
Kambala, Harikeśa, Kapila, Kāñcana, and Meghamālī—this is the group of Yakṣas thus mentioned.
सुयशाया दुहितरश्चतस्रोऽप्सरसः स्मृताः। तासां नामानि वै सम्यग् ब्रुवतो मे निबोधत ॥ ८.
Suyaśā had four daughters, remembered as Apsaras; listen carefully as I speak their names.
लोहेयी त्वभवज्ज्येष्ठा भरता तदनन्तरम्। कृशाङ्गी च विशाला च रूपेणाप्रतिमा तथा ॥ ८.
Loheyī was the eldest, followed by Bharatā; then Kṛśāṅgī and Viśālā, unmatched in beauty.
ताभ्योऽपरे यक्षगणाश्चत्वारः परिकीर्त्तिताः। उत्पादिता विशालेन विक्रान्तेन महात्मना ॥ ८.
From these, four other Yakṣa groups are described, produced by Viśālā, the mighty one.
लोहेयो भरतेयश्च कृशाङ्गेयश्च विश्रुतः । विशालेश्च यक्षाणां पुराणे प्रथिता गणाः ॥ ८.
Loheya, Bharateya, Kṛśāṅgeya, and Viśāleya are renowned; these are the ancient groups of Yakṣas.
इत्येतैरसुरैर्घोरैर्महाबलपराक्रमैः। लोकैर्यक्षगणैर्व्याप्ता लोकालोक विदांवराः ॥ ८.
By these fierce and powerful Asuras, the worlds are filled with Yakṣa groups, both visible and invisible.
गन्धर्वाश्चाथ वालेया विक्रान्तेन महात्मना। उत्पादिता महावीर्या महागन्धर्वनायकाः ॥ ८.
Then, the Gandharvas, sons of Vali, mighty and great-souled, were produced—heroes of great strength, leaders among the Gandharvas.
विक्रमौदार्यसम्पन्ना महाबलपराक्रमाः। तेषां नामानि वक्ष्यामि यथावदनुपूर्वशः ॥ ८.
Endowed with valor and generosity, possessing immense strength and prowess—now I shall declare their names to you, in proper order.
चित्राङ्गदो महावीर्यश्चित्रवर्मा तथैव च। चित्रकेतुर्महाभागः सोमदत्तोऽथ वीर्यवान्। तिस्रो दुहितरश्चैव तासां नामानि वक्ष्यते ॥ ८.
Citrāṅgada, of great might; Citravarman likewise; Citraketu, highly fortunate; and Somadatta, powerful—these are named. And there were three daughters as well, whose names will now be told.
प्रथमा त्वग्निका नाम कम्बला तदनन्तरम्। तथा वसुमती नाम रूपेणाप्रतिमौजसः ॥ ८.
The first was named Agnikā; next was Kambalā; and then Vasumatī, whose beauty and vigor were unmatched.
ताभ्यः परे कुमारेण गणा उत्पादितास्त्विमे। त्रयो गन्धर्वमुख्यानां विक्रान्ता युद्धदुर्मदाः ॥ ८.
From these, by another son, were produced these hosts—three principal Gandharvas, valiant and fierce in battle.
आग्नेयाः काम्बलेयाश्च तथा वसुमतीसुताः। तैर्गणैर्विविधैर्व्याप्तमिदं लोकचराचरम् ॥ ८.
The Āgneyas, Kambaleyas, and the sons of Vasumatī—by these various groups, the world, both moving and unmoving, has been filled.
विद्यावन्तश्च तेनैव विक्रान्तेन महात्मना। उत्पादिता महाभागा रूपविद्याधनेश्वराः ॥ ८.
By that same mighty and great-souled one, learned beings of great fortune were produced—lords of beauty, knowledge, and wealth.
तेषामुदीर्ण वीर्याणां गन्धर्वाणां महात्मनाम्। नामानि कीर्त्त्यमानानि श्रृणुध्वं मे विवक्षतः ॥ ८.
Of those Gandharvas, great-souled and of manifest power, hear now the names as I intend to declare them.
हिरण्यरोमा कपिलः सुलोमा मागधस्तथा। चन्द्रकेतुश्च वै गाङ्गो गोदश्चैव महाबलः ॥ ८.
Hiraṇyaroma, Kapila, Suloma, and Māgadha; Candraketu, the Gangetic one, and Goda, mighty in strength.
महाविद्यावदातानां विक्रान्तानां तपस्विनाम्। इत्येवमादिर्हि गणो द्वे चान्ये च सुलोचने ॥ ८.
Thus begins the host of the Kinnaras—great-souled, learned, valiant, and austere; and there are two other groups, O bright-eyed one.
शिवा च सुमनाश्चैव ताभ्यामपि महात्मना। उत्पादिता विश्रवसा विद्याचरणगोचराः ॥ ८.
Śivā and Sumanā—by these two, too, the great-souled Viśravas produced beings who dwell in knowledge and discipline.
शैवेयाश्चैव विक्रान्तास्तथा सौमनसो गणाः। एतैर्व्याप्तमिदं लोकं विद्याधरगणैस्त्रिभिः ॥ ८.
The Śaiveyas, valiant ones, and likewise the Saumanasa hosts—by these three groups of Vidyādharas, this world is filled.
एभ्योऽनेकानि जातानि अम्बरान्तरचारिणाम्। लोके गणशतान्येव विद्याघरविचेष्टितात् ॥ ८.
From these have arisen countless beings who move through the sky—hundreds of hosts in the world, by the activity of the Vidyādharas.
अश्वमुखाश्च तेनैव विक्रान्तेन महात्मना। उत्पादिता ह्यश्वमुखाः किन्नरांस्तान्निबोधत ॥ ८.
By that same mighty and great-souled one, the horse-faced Kinnaras were produced—hear now of those Kinnaras with horse-heads.
समुद्रः सेनः कालिन्दो महानेत्रो महाबलः। सुवर्णघोषः सुग्रीवो महाघोषश्च वीर्यवान् ॥ ८.
Samudra, Sena, Kālinda, Mahānetra, mighty in strength; Suvarṇaghoṣa, Sugrīva, and Mahāghoṣa, powerful as well.
इत्येवमादिर्हि गणः किन्नराणां महात्मनाम्। हयाननानां विद्वद्भिर्विस्तीर्णः परिकीर्त्त्यते ॥ ८.
Thus begins the host of the Kinnaras—great-souled, horse-faced, as described by the learned, and widely renowned.
