Vayu Purana

तेऽपि तेनैव मार्गेण योगोक्तेन महौजसः। रुद्रलोकं गमिष्यन्ति पुनरावृत्तिदुर्लभम् ।। २३.

They too, by that same path, through the yoga taught, endowed with great energy, will go to the world of Rudra, where return is rare.

चतुर्थे द्वापरे चैव यदा व्यासोऽङ्गिराः स्मृतः। तदाऽप्यहं भविष्यामि सुहोत्रो नाम नामतः ।। २३.

In the fourth Dvāpara, when Vyāsa is known as Aṅgiras, then also I shall be known by the name Suhotra.

तत्रापि मम सत्पुत्राश्चत्वारश्च तपोधनाः। भविष्यन्ति द्विजश्रेष्ठा योगात्मानो दृढव्रताः ।। २३.

There too, my four true sons, rich in austerity, will be born, O best of twice-born, devoted to yoga and firm in their vows.

सुमुखो दुर्मुखश्चैव दुर्दमो दुरतिक्रमः। प्राप्य योगगतिं सूक्ष्मां विमला दग्धकिल्बिषाः। तेऽपि तेनैव मार्गेण गमिष्यन्ति न संशयः ।। २३.

Sumukha and Durmukha, Durdama and Duratikrama—having attained the subtle path of yoga, pure and with their sins burned away, they too will proceed by that very path, without doubt.

पञ्चमे द्वापरे चैव व्यासस्तु सविता यदा। तदा चापि भविष्यामि कङ्गो नाम महातपाः। अनुग्रहार्थं लोकानां योगात्मा नैककर्मकृत् ।। २३.

In the fifth Dvapara, when Vyasa is Savita, then too I shall be born as Kanga, a great ascetic, for the welfare of the worlds, a yogin, performing many deeds.

चत्वारस्तु महाभागा विरजाः शुद्धयोनयः । पुत्रा मम भविष्यन्ति योगात्मानो दृढव्रताः ।। २३.

There will be four noble sons of mine, free from passion, of pure birth, devoted to yoga and firm in their vows.

सनः सनन्दनश्चैव प्रभुर्यश्च सनातनः। ऋतुः सनत्कुमारश्च निर्ममा निरहंकृताः। मत्समीपं गमिष्यन्ति पुनरावृत्तिदुर्लभम् ।। २३.

Sanaka, Sanandana, Prabhu, Sanatana, Ritu, and Sanatkumara—free from possessiveness and ego—will come to me, where return is hard to attain.

परिवृत्ते पुनः षष्ठे मृत्युर्व्यासो यदा विभुः। तदाप्यहं भविष्यामि लोकाक्षिर्नाम नामतः ।। २३.

When the sixth cycle has passed and Vyasa is Mrityu, the mighty one, then too I shall be known by the name Lokakshi.

शिष्याश्च मम ते दिव्या योगात्मानो दृढव्रताः। भविष्यन्ति महाभागाश्चत्वारो लोकसम्मताः ।। २३.

My disciples then will be divine, devoted to yoga, firm in their vows, four in number, highly fortunate and esteemed by the world.

सुधामा विरजश्चैव शङ्खपाद्रव एव च। योगात्मानो महात्मानस्ते सर्वे दग्धकिल्बिषाः। तेऽपि तेनैव मार्गेण गमिष्यन्ति न संशयः ।। २३.

Sudhama, Viraja, Shankhapad, and Rava—these great souls, devoted to yoga and freed from sin, they too will proceed by that very path, without doubt.

सप्तमे परिवर्त्ते तु यदा व्यासः शतक्रतुः। विभुर्नाम महातेजा- पूर्वमासीच्छतक्रतुः ।। २३.

In the seventh cycle, when Vyasa is Shatakratu, the mighty one, he was formerly known as Shatakratu, of great brilliance.

तदाऽप्यहं भविष्यामि कलौ तस्मिन् युगान्तिके। जैगीषव्येति विखयातः सर्वेषां योगिनां वरः ।। २३.

Then too, at the end of that Kali age, I shall be born, renowned as Jaigishavya, the foremost among all yogins.

तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति युगे तदा। सारस्वतः सुमेधाश्च वसुवाहः सुवाहनः ।। २३.

There too, in that age, my sons will be Sarasvata, Sumedhas, Vasuvaaha, and Suvaahana.

तेऽपि तेनैव मार्गेण ध्यानयुक्तिं समाश्रिताः । भविष्यन्ति महात्मानो रुद्रलोकपरायणाः ।। २३.

They too, following that very path and established in meditation, will be great souls, devoted to the world of Rudra.

वसिष्ठश्चाष्टमे व्यासः परिवर्त्ते भविष्यति। कपिलश्चासुरिश्चैव तथा पञ्चशिखो मुनिः। वाग्बलिश्च महायोगी सर्व एव महौजसः ।। २३.

In the eighth cycle, Vyasa will be Vasistha, and also Kapila, Asuri, the sage Panchashikha, and Vagbhali, the great yogin—all of great energy.

प्राप्य माहेश्वरं योगं ध्यानिनो दग्धकल्मषाः। मत्समीपं गमिष्यन्ति पुनरावृत्तिदुर्लभम् ।। २३.

Having attained the Maheshvara yoga, absorbed in meditation and freed from sin, they will come to me, where return is hard to attain.

परिवर्त्तेऽथ नवमे व्यासः सारस्वतो यदा। तदा चाहं भविष्यामि ऋषभो नाम नामतः । तत्रापि मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति महौजसः ।। २३.

In the ninth cycle, when Vyasa is Sarasvata, then too I shall be known by the name Rishabha; there also, my sons will be of great energy.

पराशरश्च गार्ग्यश्च भार्गवो ह्यङ्गिरास्तथा। भविष्यन्ति महात्मानो ब्राह्मणा वेदपारगाः ।। २३.

Parashara, Gargya, Bhargava, and Angiras—these great souls, brahmins accomplished in the Vedas, will be born.

सर्वे तपोबलोत्कृष्टाः शापानुग्रहकोविदाः। तेपि तेनैव मार्गेण योगोक्तेन तपस्विनः। ध्यानमार्गं समासाद्य गमिष्यन्ति तथैव ते ।। २३.

All of them, excelling in ascetic power, skilled in granting curses and boons, following that very yogic path, having attained the path of meditation, will likewise proceed.

दशमे द्वापरे व्यासस्त्रिधामानाम नामतः। यदा भविष्यति विप्रास्तदाऽहं भविता पुनः ।। २३.

In the tenth Dvapara, when Vyasa is named Tridhama, then too, O brahmins, I shall be born again.

हिमवच्छिखरे रम्ये भृगुतुङ्गे नगोत्तमे। नाम्ना भृगोस्तु शिखरन्तस्मात्तच्छिखरम्भृगुः ।। २३.

On the beautiful peak of Himavat, on the lofty mountain of Bhrigu, known as the summit of Bhrigu, from that summit, it is called Bhrigu.

तत्रैव मम ते पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति दृढव्रताः। बलबन्धुर्निरामित्रः केतुश्रृङ्गस्तपोधनः ।। २३.

There, my sons will be steadfast in their vows: Balabandhu, Nirāmitra, Ketuśṛṅga, and Tapodhana.

योगात्मानो महात्मानो ध्यानयोगसमन्विताः। रुद्रलोकं गमिष्यन्ति तपसा दग्धकल्मषाः ।। २३.

Possessed of yoga, great souls endowed with the practice of meditation, purified of sin by austerity, they will go to the world of Rudra.

एकादशे द्वापरे तु त्रिवृद्व्यासो भविष्यति। तदाऽप्यहं भविष्यामि गङ्गाद्वारे कलेर्धुरि ।। २३.

In the eleventh Dvāpara, the threefold Vyāsa will be born; at that time too, I will be present at the gateway of the Gaṅgā, at the end of Kali.

उग्रा नाम महानादास्तत्रैव मम पुत्रकाः। भविष्यन्ति महौजस्काः सुवृत्ता लोकविश्रुताः ।। २३.

There, my sons named Ugrā and Mahānāda will be born, possessing great energy, virtuous, and renowned in the world.

लम्बोदरश्च लम्बश्च लम्बाक्षो लम्बकेशकः। प्राप्य माहेश्वरं योगं रुद्रलोकाय संस्थिताः। तेऽपि तेनैव मार्गेण गमिष्यन्ति परां गतिम् ।। २३.

Lambodara, Lamba, Lambākṣa, and Lambakeśaka, having attained the Maheśvara yoga, will be established in the world of Rudra; they too, by that very path, will reach the supreme state.

द्वादशे पिरवर्त्ते तु शततेजा महामुनिः। भविष्यति महासत्त्वो व्यासः कविवरोत्तमः ।। २३.

In the twelfth cycle, the great sage Śatatejā, of great strength and the foremost among poets, will become Vyāsa.

ततोऽप्यहं भविष्यामि अत्रिर्नाम युगान्तिके। हैमकं वनमासाद्य योगमास्थाय भूतले ।। २३.

After that, at the end of the age, I will be born as Atri, having reached the golden forest and established in yoga on earth.

अत्रापि मा ते पुत्रा भस्मस्नानानुलेपनाः। भविष्यन्ति महायोग रुद्रलोकपरायणाः ।। २३.

There too, my sons will be smeared with ashes from their bath, devoted to great yoga, and intent on reaching the world of Rudra.
