The four groups of beings, and likewise the four stages of life; the four feet of righteousness, and four are my sons.
Therefore, the world, with its moving and unmoving beings, exists in fourfold states, and will be four-footed.
The earth realm, then the atmosphere, the heaven, and the great realm; the world of creation, of austerity, of peace, and beyond that, the world of Rudra.
The heaven is indeed the third, and the fourth is called the great realm; there, the world is the supreme place, remembered as the highest by yogis.
Without possessiveness, without ego, free from desire and anger, those who know that place, engaged in yoga, devoted to meditation, will perceive it.
Since you have seen Sarasvatī as four-footed, therefore all animals will be four-footed; and thus, they will have four udders.
Since Soma, joined with mantra, has flowed from my mouth, O Brahman, the life of all living beings drinks ghee from their udders.
Therefore, this is called Soma-made nectar; they will be four-footed, and its whiteness is due to that.
Because, having become active, the great goddess appeared as two-footed; and you have seen this Savitri, who brings forth worlds. Therefore, all two-footed beings, all men, are remembered as having two breasts.
Because, having become unborn, the great goddess appeared in all castes; and you have seen her, of great strength, the supreme bearer of all beings. Therefore, the unborn ones will have the form of the universe.
And the unborn one, of great brilliance, will become universal in form; his seed unfailing everywhere, and in his mouth is fire. Therefore, fire in the form of animals is everywhere pure and pervasive.
Those twice-born who have purified their selves through austerity will indeed see the all-pervading, steadfast lord, in his mastery and auspiciousness.
Freed from passion and darkness, abandoning the human shell, they will come near me, where return is difficult.
Thus addressed by Rudra, the blessed Brahma, O twice-born, after bowing with devotion, again spoke, the grandsire.
O blessed lord of gods, universal in form, great lord, these bodies of yours, O Mahadeva, are honored by the worlds.
O universal form, great-souled, mighty-armed, at what time, in which age's manifestation, will the twice-born see you?
By what union with truth, or by what union with meditation, O Mahadeva, are your bodies able to be seen by the twice-born?
Not by austerity, nor by yoga, nor by the fruit of charity and righteousness, nor by the fruit of pilgrimage, nor by sacrifices with proper gifts.
Nor by study of the Vedas, nor by mental discernment; I am not able to be seen by men except through supreme meditation.
Sadhya, Narayana, and Vishnu, lord of the three worlds, will here become known by the name Varaha, the renowned.
With four arms, four legs, four eyes, and four faces, then, having become a year, he will take the form of sacrifice; with six limbs, three heads, and three places, possessing three bodies.
The four ages—Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—are his four legs; the sacrifices are his limbs likewise.
His arms are the four Vedas; the seasons are the joints; two mouths, two solstices, and likewise four eyes.
Three heads, the junctions, Phalguni, Ashadha, and Krittika; the three places—celestial, atmospheric, and terrestrial; origin and dissolution, and two ashramas are declared.
When he, resembling the form of time, is established as Varaha, then Sadhya, Vishnu, Narayana, the lord, will exist.
Then you also, O lord of gods, will become four-faced; Brahma, worthy of worship in Brahma's world, and Vishnu, Narayana, the lord.
When you see Hari, the Supreme Lord, lying upon the single ocean on a raft, absorbed in meditation, as the great sage—
Then, by my yoga, both of you will be deluded, your minds lost, competing with each other through the night, not recognizing one another.
Seeing all the worlds, moving and unmoving, within each other's belly, and, struck with supreme wonder, realizing through meditation that you are both human—
Then you, born from a lotus, with a lotus-navel, eternal, marked with a lotus, will attain great renown in that kalpa.
