When the disciplined twice-born enters wherever he directs his mind, he enters the elements or even shakes the three worlds.
By this, he enters a body, and having left a body, again here; for the yogas, the gateway of the mind and the sun should be indicated.
Because of actions such as taking and the like, he is called Āditya. In this way, the yogī, detached and free from subtle qualities, having transcended nature, is honored in the world of Rudra.
That lord, having attained the qualities of sovereignty and divinity, having become Brahman, withdraws from all the abodes of the gods, everywhere.
With the portion of a piśāca, he attains the piśācas; with the portion of a rākṣasa, the rākṣasas; with the portion of a gandharva, the gandharvas; with the portion of Kubera, those born of Kubera.
He attains Indra by the abode of Indra, Soma by the abode of Soma, and likewise Prajāpati by the abode of Prajāpati.
In the same way, he addresses the lord in the Brāhma abode with the Brāhma portion. Attached there, he becomes intoxicated, and from that, everything proceeds.
Always intent on Brahman, disciplined, he abandons these abodes. Not becoming attached to the abodes, the twice-born becomes all-pervading.
Now, I will explain in detail the qualities of sovereignty, by which, through a special yoga, one transcends all worlds.
There, the eightfold sovereignty of yogīs is described. Listen as I explain all of them in order.
Aṇimā, laghimā, mahimā, prāpti, prākāmya everywhere, and īśitva everywhere—these are the powers.
And vaśitva everywhere, where there is fulfillment of all desires—this manifold sovereignty, fulfilling all desires, is to be known.
Both faulty and faultless, and also subtle, are manifest. That which is called faulty is said to consist of the five elements.
And that which is called faultless is also said to consist of the five elements, as well as the senses, the mind, and indeed the ego.
There, the subtle activity is again said to consist of the five elements, the senses, the mind, and what is called intellect and ego.
Likewise, that which is composed of everything, and the fame established in the self—thus, the threefold union operates only in the subtle.
Again, even the eightfold powers operate in these. I will explain their form, as the Blessed Lord has declared.
In the three worlds, among all beings, the life-force is said to be unbounded. Aṇimā is that by which all is established, though imperceptible.
In the three worlds, that which is declared difficult to attain for all beings, even that becomes attainable first by the power of yogīs.
In yoga, support and leaping are always its forms; moving swiftly among all beings is remembered as its second state.
The attainment of all beings in the three worlds, and the fulfillment of desires as well—this, along with greatness in each, is called the third kind of yoga.
In the three worlds, among all beings, it is known as mastery over the three worlds; he enjoys desired objects without obstruction anywhere, and in the three worlds he brings about happiness and sorrow for all beings.
The knower of yoga becomes lord everywhere, by distinction; and all beings, moving and unmoving, in the three worlds, become subject to his will—things happen as he wishes, or do not happen.
Wherever there is the power to fulfill desires, in the three worlds, among moving and unmoving beings, the senses act or do not act according to his will.
Sound, touch, taste, smell, form, and even the mind—these arise for him when he wishes, and cease when he so desires.
He is not born, nor does he die; he is not split, nor cut; he is not burned, nor deluded; he is not diminished, nor stained.
He is not exhausted, nor does he perish, nor is he ever afflicted; he acts everywhere, yet is not transformed.
He is without smell, taste, or form, devoid of touch and sound; he is colorless and without distinction, and yet sometimes assumes color.
He enjoys objects, yet is not bound by them; knowing the supreme subtlety, because of that subtlety, he is liberated.
He is all-pervading and, because of liberation, is called puruṣa; due to his subtle nature, the puruṣa stands supreme in sovereignty.
