Here, for those who are liberated and do not return to the path, there is absence at rebirth, like the extinguished flames of the peaceful.

Gandharvas and others up to Piśācas, humans, Brahmanas and others, animals, birds, immobile beings, and reptiles.
While they remain on the earth's surface at that time, the thousand rays of the sun shine forth here; those seven rays become, each one, a distinct sun.
Rising in succession, they burn the three worlds: moving and unmoving beings, rivers, and all mountains; the former are dried by drought and scorched by those suns.
Then, all those beings, moving and unmoving, composed of virtue and vice, are consumed by the sun's rays and enter within.

Then, people are born among people of similar form; all are abundant in purity, established in mental accomplishment.
Having spent the night there, in the realm of Brahman of unmanifest birth, at the new creation, they become here the mental progeny of Brahman.
Then, when those people arise among the inhabitants of the three worlds, and when those worlds are burned by the seven suns, with the earth flooded by rain and the dwellings destroyed.
The oceans, the clouds, all waters, and all earthly things proceed to become a single expanse, for they are then sustained by what is called water.
That water, which comes and goes, when it becomes abundant, covers this earth; then it is called the ocean.
Because it shines while others do not shine, being radiant and pervasive, after flooding everything, its water is perceived among them.
Because that water spreads throughout the entire earth, it is called 'spreading' by the wise, due to its expansion.

At the end of a thousand ages, when the day of Brahma ceases, while the royal era is ongoing, all becomes of the nature of water.
Then, when that water is gone, on the earth's surface, with the fire subdued, wind calmed, darkness prevailing, and light absent everywhere.

Then, in that single ocean, when all that is stationary and moving is lost, Brahma becomes the thousand-eyed, thousand-footed one.

We have heard that waters are called 'naras' and their spreading is 'tanava'; filling the navel, he dwells there, thus he is remembered as Narayana.
The Purusha with a thousand heads, blessed mind, thousand feet, thousand eyes, mouths, and thousandfold consumption; thousand-armed, the first lord of creatures, who is declared in the threefold path.
Of the color of the sun, the sole protector of the world, unique and foremost, swift, the Purusha called Hiranyagarbha, the great soul, is spoken of as beyond darkness.

Having consumed the fourfold beings during Brahmā’s night in the great ocean, the great sages in the Maharloka behold time as asleep.
Just as the seven sages beginning with Bhṛgu exist in this cycle, so too, when the cycle turns, the great is encompassed by those exalted ones.
