Having bowed with humility, Brahmā again spoke to them: 'In this world, who deserves independence without my permission?'
Since everything has been encompassed by me, how will beings act according to their own will, whether for good or for ill?
Whatever exists in the world, whether with essence or without, is pervaded by me through intellect and self; who in the world can surpass me?
Whatever is reasoned by beings, and whatever is ordained for them, and whatever is considered— all that is known to me.
This entire world, both moving and unmoving, is established by me in its true nature; how could I wish to destroy it?
And because I have manifested here for the sake of creation, not otherwise, who, without undertaking actions here, will be released by my will?
Then, reproaching the gods, whose minds were lost, Jayā again spoke to them, held under discipline by the Lord of Creatures.
Because you previously undertook renunciation with me in mind, and because that was fruitless and incomplete, therefore, O gods, in future births, happiness will result.
By your own will, O best of gods, your birth will occur; but in six manvantaras, you will all become deluded.
At the end of the Vaivasvata and other manvantaras, knowing this, Brahmā recited there an ancient verse.
Those who practice the threefold Veda, celibacy, procreation, śrāddha, sacrifice, and charity— having become free from passion, he dwells without seeking praise from others.
Having seen this verse, Jayā spoke to the gods: 'At the end of the Vaivasvata manvantara, you will come to me here.'
Then, together with me, you shall attain eternal accomplishment. Having spoken thus to them, Brahmā vanished there itself.
After the Lord had disappeared, the gods, fearless and endowed with the powers beginning with aṇimā, took refuge, strengthened by the force of yoga.
Then, from their bodies, twelve lakes arose, known as the Jayās, vast like oceans.
Thereafter, in that creation of Svāyambhuva, the gods were born: the sons of Ruci by Ajitā, Ajita of twelve forms.
Vidhi, the sages, Kṣema, Nanda, Avyaya, Prāṇa, Apāna, Sudhāmā, Kratu, Śakti, and Vyavasthita—these twelve, all mind-born, are remembered as the Ajitās.
They, together with the gods, were then known as participants in the sacrifice during the first Svāyambhuva Manvantara; afterwards, in the Svārociṣa Manvantara, the sons of Svarociṣa were again born from Tuṣitā.
They were called Tuṣitās, gods known as Prāṇas, travelers; again, in the Uttama Manvantara, the Tuṣitā gods themselves appeared.
Then, in the Uttama Manvantara, the auspicious sons of Uttama were born from Satyā; therefore, the gods in that period were called Satyās.
They, the Satyās, were participants in the sacrifice during the third Dvāpara Manvantara; again, when the Tāmasa Manvantara arrived, the Satyā gods appeared once more.
The sons of Harṣa, twelve in number, were then born in the Tāmasa Manvantara; these gods were called Harayas and became participants in the sacrifice.
Then, when the Cariṣṇu Manvantara arrived, those Haraya gods were born from Vaikuṇṭhā; in the fifth Manvantara, the gods were called Vaikuṇṭhās, born from Cariṣṇu.
Then again, when the Vaikuṇṭha gods reached the Cākṣuṣa Manvantara, twelve sons were born from Sādhyā, the sons of Dharma.
Again, when the Sādhyās diminished at the end of the Cākṣuṣa Manvantara, and the creation of Manu Vaivasvata approached,
At the beginning of the first Tretā Yuga, in the Vaivasvata Manvantara, the Sādhyās, by a portion, were born from Aditi, from Marīci and Kaśyapa.
Thus, in the present Manvantara, the twelve Ādityas were born; and when they had arisen in the Cākṣuṣa Manvantara of Manu,
Then, in the Svāyambhuva Manvantara, twelve immortal Sādhyās were born; thus, the original Jayās came into being at that time due to a curse.
Whoever, with faith, recites this sevenfold origin of the gods as declared by the Lord, does not fall from the path.
Thus, these seven manifestations of the Jayās, each with seven characteristics, have been described by me today. What more would you wish to hear?
