यदुवंशसमुद्देशो हैहयस्य च विस्तरः। क्रोष्टोरनन्तरं चोक्तस्तथा वंशस्य विस्तरः

The lineage of Atri and Mitra is told, and the divine praise of Viṣṇu; then the arrival of the wise Maṇiratna, son of Vivasvat.
युधा जितः प्रजासर्गः कीर्त्त्यते च महात्मनः। कीर्त्त्यते चान्वयः श्रीमान् राजर्षेर्देवमीढुषः
The creation of beings by the noble Yudhājit is described, as well as the illustrious lineage of the royal sage Devamīḍhuṣa.
पुनश्च जन्म चाप्युक्तं चरितञ्च महात्मनः। कंसस्यचापि दौरात्म्यमेकान्तेन समुद्भवः
Again, the birth and deeds of the great soul are narrated, and the utter wickedness and unique origin of Kaṃsa are also told.
वासुदेवस्य देवक्यां विष्णोर्ज्जन्म प्रजापतेः। विष्णोरनन्तरञ्चापि प्रजासर्गोपवर्णनम्
The birth of Viṣṇu, lord of creatures, as the son of Vasudeva and Devakī is described, and then the subsequent creation of beings by Viṣṇu is recounted.
दैवासुरे समुत्पन्ने विष्णुना स्त्रीवधे कृते। संरक्षता शक्रवधं शापः प्राप्तः पुरा भृगोः। भृगुश्चोत्थापयामास दिव्यां शुक्रस्य मातरम्
When the conflict between gods and demons arose, Viṣṇu killed a woman; while protecting Indra, he incurred a curse from Bhṛgu in ancient times; and Bhṛgu revived the divine mother of Śukra.
देवानामसुराणां च संग्रामा द्वादशायुताः। नारसिंहप्रभृतयः कीर्त्त्यन्ते प्राणनाशनाः
The battles between the gods and demons, numbering twelve thousand, beginning with Narasiṃha and others, are recounted, which brought about the destruction of life.
शुक्रेणाराधनं स्थाणोर्धीरेण तपसा कृतम्। वरदानप्रलुब्धेन यत्र शर्वस्तवः कृतः। अनन्तरं विनिर्दिष्टं देवासुरविचेष्टितम्
Śukra, steadfast in penance, worshipped Śiva, and, enticed by the granting of boons, composed a hymn to Śarva; thereafter, the actions of the gods and demons are described.
जयन्त्या सह सक्ते तु यत्र शुक्रे महात्मनि। असुरान्मोहयामास शुक्ररूपेण बुद्धिमान्। बृहस्पतिस्तु तान् शुक्रः शशाप सुमहाद्युतिः
When Jayantī was united with the great Śukra, he, taking the form of Śukra, deluded the demons with his intelligence; then Bṛhaspati, shining greatly, cursed them as Śukra.
उक्तं च विष्णुमाहात्म्यं विष्णोर्जन्मादिशब्दनम्। तुर्वसुः शुक्रदौहित्रो देवयान्यां यदोरभूत्। अनुर्द्रुह्युस्तथा पूरुर्ययातितनया नृपाः
The greatness of Vishnu has been described, along with the words relating to Vishnu's birth and other deeds. Turvasu, the grandson of Shukra, was born to Yadu through Devayani. Likewise, Anu, Druhyu, and Puru were the sons of Yayati, all kings.
अत्र वंश्या महात्मानस्तेषां पार्थिवसत्तमाः। कीर्त्यन्ते दीर्घयशसो भूरिद्रविणतेजसः
Among these, their descendants were great souls, the foremost among kings, renowned for their long-lasting fame and abundant wealth and energy.
कुशिकस्य च विप्रर्षेः सम्यग्यो धर्मसंश्रयः। बार्हस्पत्यन्तु सुरभिर्यत्र शापमिहानुदत्
Of Kuśika, the sage among Brahmins, his lineage is rightly established in righteousness. And of the descendants of Bṛhaspati, where Surabhi removed a curse here.
कीर्त्तनं जह्नुवंशस्य शन्तनोर्वीर्यशब्दनम्। भविष्यतां तथा राज्ञामुपसंहारशब्दनम्
The account of the Jahnu dynasty is recounted, as well as the deeds of Śāntanu. Likewise, the future kings and the summary of their lineages are described.
अनागतानां सप्तानां मनूनां चोपवर्णनम्। भौमस्यान्ते कलियुगे क्षीणे संहारवर्णनम्
The description of the seven future Manus is given, and at the end of the earthly age, in the Kali Yuga, the account of the destruction when it is exhausted.
परार्द्धपरयोश्चैव लक्षणं परिकीर्त्त्यते। ब्रह्मणो योजनाग्रेण परिमाणविनिर्णयः
The characteristics of the two halves of a great age are described, as well as the determination of the measurement of Brahmā by the unit of yojana.
नैमित्तिकः प्राकृतिकस्तथैवात्यन्तिकः स्मृतः। त्रिविधः सर्व भूतानां कीर्त्त्यते प्रतिसञ्चरः

There is the terrible consuming fire caused by the sun's lack of rain, the cloud, the single ocean, the wind, and the great night of the great soul.
संख्यालक्षणमुद्दिष्टं ततो ब्राह्मं विशेषतः। भूरादीनां च लोकानां सप्तानामुपवर्णनम्। कीर्त्त्यन्ते चात्र निरयाः पापानां रौरवादयः
The enumeration and characteristics are stated, especially of the Brahman; and the description of the seven worlds, beginning with Bhū. Here also are described the hells, such as Raurava, for the sinful.
ब्रह्मलोकोपरिष्टात्तु शिवस्य स्थानमुत्तमम्। यत्र संहारमायान्ति सर्वभूतानि संक्षये
Above Brahmā's world is the supreme abode of Śiva, where, at the time of dissolution, all beings come to their end.
सर्वेषां चैव सत्त्वानां परिणामविनिर्णयः। ब्रह्मणः प्रतिसंसर्गे सर्वसंहारवर्णनम्
The determination of the transformation of all beings is described, and, at the union with Brahmā, the account of the total dissolution of all.
अष्टरूप्यमतः प्रोक्तं प्राणस्याष्टकमेव च। गतिश्चोर्ध्वमधश्चोक्ता धर्माधर्मसमाश्रयात्
Thus, the eightfold form is explained, as well as the eight aspects of the vital breath. The upward and downward paths are described, depending on righteousness and unrighteousness.
कल्पे कल्पे च भूतानां महतामपि संक्षयः। प्रसंख्याय च दुःखानि ब्रह्मणश्चाप्यनित्यता
In every cycle, even the greatest beings perish; the enumeration of sufferings is given, and the impermanence of Brahmā as well.
दौरात्म्यं चैव भोगानां परिणामविनिर्णंयः। दुर्लभत्वं च मोक्षस्य वैराग्याद्दोषदर्शनम्
The wretchedness of enjoyments is determined by their transformation, and the rarity of liberation is shown by seeing the faults through detachment.
व्यक्ताव्यक्तं परित्यज्य सत्त्वं ब्रह्मणि संस्थितम्। नानात्वदर्शनाच्छुद्धं ततस्तदभिवर्त्तते
Abandoning both the manifest and unmanifest, the essence established in Brahman is pure, because it sees no diversity; thus, it attains that.
ततस्तापत्रयातीतो नीरूपाख्यो निरञ्जनः। आनन्दो ब्रह्मणः प्रोक्तो न बिभेति कुतश्चन
Then, transcending the threefold suffering, called formless and stainless, the bliss of Brahman is declared, and it fears nothing whatsoever.
कीर्त्त्यते च पुनः सर्गो ब्रह्मणोऽन्यस्य पूर्ववत्। कीर्त्त्यते ऋषिवंशश्च सर्वपापप्रणाशनः
Again, the creation of another Brahmā is described as before, and the lineage of sages is recounted, which destroys all sins.
इति कृत्यसमुद्देशः पुराणस्योपवर्णितः। कीर्त्त्यन्ते जगतो ह्यत्र सर्वप्रलयविक्रियाः। प्रवृत्तयश्च भूतानां निवृत्तीनां फलानि च
Thus, the summary of the topics of the Purāṇa has been described; here are recounted all the transformations of the dissolution of the world, as well as the origins of beings, their cessation, and their results.
प्रादुर्भावो वसिष्ठस्य शक्तेर्जन्म तथैव च। सौदासान्निग्रहस्तस्य विश्वामित्रकृतेन च
The appearance of Vasiṣṭha, the birth of Śakti, likewise; the subjugation of Saudāsa by him, and by Viśvāmitra as well.
पराशरस्य चोत्पत्तिरदृश्यत्वं यथा विभोः। जज्ञे पितॄणां कन्यायां व्यासश्चापि यथा मुनिः
The origin of Parāśara, and the manner of the Lord's invisibility; how Vyāsa was born to the daughter of the ancestors, and how he became a sage.
