O Sun, I bathe here in the southern Mānasa for release from the torments of the mass of sins such as brahminicide.
I bow to the Sun for the satisfaction of the ancestors, for their deliverance, for sons, grandsons, wealth, sovereignty, long life, health, and increase.
Having performed bathing, worship, and so on, and having performed the śrāddha with rice-balls, after bowing to the silent Sun, one should recite this mantra.
From there, one should go to the Phalgu sacred ford, the best of all sacred fords; by performing śrāddha there, liberation is always attained for the performers and their ancestors.
At Brahmā's request, Viṣṇu once became Phalgu; in the southern fire, the offering made there became known as Phalgu Tīrtha.
There, in Phalgu, the wish-fulfilling cow yields water and earth; because it is hidden from sight, Phalgu Tīrtha is never fruitless.
All the sacred bathing places that exist throughout the worlds come together, along with the gods, to Phalgu Tīrtha for bathing.
The water at Viṣṇu's feet is the Gaṅgā; Phalgu, the foremost, the wielder of the mace, himself appears there in liquid form—therefore, it is considered greater than the Gaṅgā.
Even one who performs a thousand horse sacrifices a thousand times does not obtain the merit that is gained at Phalgu Tīrtha.
With devotion, I bathe in Viṣṇu's water at Phalgu Tīrtha for the sake of my ancestors, so they may attain Viṣṇu's world, and for the sake of enjoyment and liberation.
After bathing at Phalgu Tīrtha, a man should perform the rites of offering and śrāddha, including the offering of balls of rice as prescribed by his own tradition, and then salute his forefathers.
Salutations to Śiva, the god, the lord, the true person, to Aghora, Vāmadeva, Sadyojāta, and Śambhu.
After bathing at Phalgu Tīrtha and seeing the god Gadādhara, a man at once delivers himself and ten generations before and after him.
Having bowed to the god Gadādhara, he should worship with this mantra: 'Om, obeisance to Vāsudeva, obeisance also to Saṅkarṣaṇa.'
To Pradyumna, Aniruddha, Śrīdhara, and Viṣṇu—after bathing at the five tīrthas, a man leads his ancestors to the world of Brahmā.
If one does not perform the bath for Gadāpāṇi with the five nectars, adorned with flowers and cloth, his śrāddha is rendered fruitless.
From Nāgakūṭa and Gṛdhrakūṭa up to the northern shore of Lake Mānasa, this is called the head of Gayā, and that is known as Phalgu Tīrtha.
Beneath the city of Muṇḍapṛṣṭha lies the supreme Phalgu Tīrtha; here, by śrāddha and other rites, all ancestors attain liberation.
The rite for the first day has been described; on the second day, one should go to Dharmāraṇya, where Dharma performed a sacrifice.
By going there, one surely attains Brahmā's world, O Nārada; one who bathes in the Mataṅga pond and performs the offerings and śrāddha rites.
Having gone and bowed to Mataṅgeśa, he should recite this mantra: 'Let the deities and guardians of the worlds be witnesses to this act.'
Having come to this Mataṅga, I have performed atonement for my ancestors; previously, at Brahmatīrtha, one should perform śrāddha and related rites at the well.
Between that well and its approach, one delivers all the ancestors; having bowed to Dharma and the Lord of Dharma, one should also bow to the great Bodhi tree.
Salutations to the king of the Ashvattha tree, who embodies Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva; to the Bodhi tree, for the deliverance of both ancestors and doers.
May those relatives in my maternal lineage who have fallen into misfortune, by seeing or touching you, attain eternal good fortune.
Having come to Gaya, O king of trees, I have given the threefold debt; by your grace, I am freed from great sin and from the ocean of worldly existence.
After bathing in the third Brahma lake, and performing the Śrāddha with offerings, the son should complete everything properly, with the prescribed mantra.
I bathe at this sacred place for release from the threefold debt; between that well and its approach, one leads the ancestors to the world of Brahma.

By circumambulating the Yūpa post, one obtains the fruit of the Vājapeya sacrifice; and after bowing to Brahma, one leads the ancestors to the world of Brahma.
