By their brilliance, austerity, intelligence, strength, learning, and valor, Indras surpass all beings in the three worlds who possess movement and stability, in every way, by their own qualities.
Some, delighting in denying the existence of beings, others, impartial, affirming beings, and some, attached to recounting beings—these three are the Vedas among those who expound.
Agnidhra, Kāśyapa, Paulastya, Māgadha, Bhārgava, Agnibāhu, Śuci, Āṅgirasa, Ojasvin, and Subala—these are the sons of Manu Bhautya.
These four Manus named Savarṇa are sons of Brahmā; one, called Vaivasvata, is known as Sāvarṇa Manu.
Raucya and Bhautya, the sons of Manu, are of the Paulaha and Bhārgava lineages; when Bhautya's reign arrives, the full cycle of the kalpa is completed.
Sūta said: When all the manvantaras here are entirely completed, at the end of many yugas, when they are exhausted, that is called dissolution.
These seven Bhārgava gods, at the end of the manvantara, having enjoyed the three worlds, remain in the middle for seventy-one yugas.
Together with the Pitṛs, Manus, and the seven Ṛṣis, and also other sacrificers and their followers, they remain with them.
The lords, having abandoned the three worlds, will go to Maharloka; when they have departed upward and the manvantara is exhausted, then all the three worlds will become unsupported.
Then, O twice-born, the abodes of the residents, being empty, will fall away, released along with the stars, planets, and constellations.
When the lords of the three worlds, along with Indra and the others, have departed to Maharloka, those who dwell for a kalpa reside there.
The groups beginning with Jitā and others, fourteen in all up to Cākṣuṣa, these gods of great might exist in all the manvantaras.
Then, when they have gone upward, the union of those dwelling for a kalpa occurs; all those gods come together at the time of the gathering.
Abandoning Maharloka, those fourteen groups, it is said, with their bodies and followers, proceed to Janaloka.
Thus, when the gods have departed from Maharloka to Janaloka, only the primary elements and immovable beings remain.
When the great worlds, beginning with Bhū, are empty, and the gods have gone upward, the union of those dwelling for a kalpa occurs.
Then Brahmā, having withdrawn the gods, Ṛṣis, Pitṛs, and Dānavas, establishes creation again with his great vision at the end of the yuga.
There, those who know the day and night of Brahmā say that a day is a thousand yugas and a night is also a thousand yugas.
The dissolution of all beings is threefold: occasional, elemental, and absolute—so it is explained.
The occasional dissolution is called 'Brahmic,' marked by the burning of the world at the end of an age; in the re-creation, the elemental dissolution is the destruction of the elements of beings.
The absolute dissolution is said to arise from knowledge, being the cessation of causes; then, having withdrawn them, Brahmā gathers up the gods and all the inhabitants of the three worlds.
At the end of the day, he brings about again the dissolution of creation; the blessed Brahmā, desiring rest, then withdraws the beings.
Then, when a thousand ages have passed and the age comes to its end, that Lord of creatures prepares to create beings who are established in himself.
At that time there is no rain, and that drought lasts for a hundred years; thus, all the weak beings on the surface of the earth—
—these indeed perish here and enter into the state of earth; then the blazing fire, becoming seven-rayed, rises up.
The blessed one, with unbearable rays, drinks up the water with his beams; his rays, shining with sevenfold brilliance, are green.
Again they turn about, gradually pervading the forests; the earthly wood is kindled fiercely by the blazing rays.
Therefore, it is said that the sun, by his heat, draws up the water; the sun burns because of the drought, and because of the drought he is intensified.
Because of the drought, the sun is not replenished by water, and so he blazes; thus, drinking up the waters, the sun burns in the sky.
His seven rays drink up the water from the great ocean; nourished by that sustenance, the sun indeed becomes sevenfold.
