सूत उवाच।। भवतां कथयिष्यामि सर्वमेतद्यथातथम्। पादं त्विमं ससंहारं चतुर्थं मुनिसत्तमाः ।। ३८.

Suta said: I shall relate all this to you exactly as it is, O best of sages, including this fourth section with dissolution.

मनोर्वैवस्वतस्येमं सांप्रतस्य महात्मनः। विस्तरेणानुपूर्व्या च निसर्गं श्रृणुत द्विजाः ।। ३८.

Now, O twice-born, listen in detail and in order to the account of the present Manu, Vaivasvata, the great-souled one.

मन्वन्तराणां संक्षेपं भविष्यैः सह सप्तभिः। प्रलयञ्चैव लोकानां ब्रुवतो मे निबोधत ।। ३८.

Hear from me the summary of the Manvantaras, along with the seven future ones, and also the dissolution of the worlds.

एतान्युक्तानि वै सम्यक् सप्तसप्तसु वै मया। मन्वन्तराणि संक्षेपाच्छृणुतानागतानि मे ।। ३८.

These have been properly described by me in groups of seven; now listen to the summary of the Manvantaras yet to come.

सावर्णस्य प्रवक्ष्यामि मनोर्वैवस्वतस्य ह। भविष्यस्य भविष्यन्ति समासात्तु निबोधत ।। ३८.

I shall declare the coming Manvantara of Sāvarṇi, the son of Vaivasvata; listen in brief to what will be.

अनागताश्च सप्तैव स्मृतास्त्विह महर्षयः। कौशिको गातवश्चैव जामदग्न्यश्च भार्गवः ।। ३८.

Here, the seven great sages who are yet to come are remembered: Kauśika, Gālava, Jāmadagnya Bhārgava,

द्वैपायनो वसिष्ठश्च कृपः शारद्वतस्तथा। आत्रेयो दीप्तिमांश्चैव ऋष्यश्रृङ्गस्तु काश्यपः ।। ३८.

Dvaipāyana, Vasiṣṭha, Kṛpa the son of Śāradvat, Ātreya the radiant, and Ṛṣyaśṛṅga Kāśyapa.

भारद्वाजस्तथा द्रौणिरश्वत्थामा महायशाः। एते सप्त महात्मानो भविष्याः परमर्षयः ।। ३८.

Bhāradvāja and Drauṇi, the illustrious Aśvatthāman—these seven great souls will be the eminent seers of the future.

सुतपा श्चामिताभाश्च सुखाश्चैव गणास्त्रयः। तेषां गणास्तु देवानां एकैको विंशकः स्मृतः ।। ३८.

Sutapas, Amitābhās, and Sukhās—these three groups of gods; each group of the gods is said to be twenty in number.

नामतस्तु प्रवक्ष्यामि निबोधध्वं समाहिताः। रितस्तपश्च शुक्रश्च द्युतिर्ज्योतिः प्रभाकरौ ।। ३८.

Now I shall declare their names; listen attentively: Ṛta, Tapas, Śukra, Dyuti, Jyotis, Prabhākara,

प्रभासो भासकृद्धर्म्मस्तेजोरश्मिऋतुर्विराट्। अर्चिष्मान् द्योतनो भानुर्यशकीर्त्तिर्बुधो धृतिः। विंशतिः सुतपा ह्येते नामभिः परिकीर्तिताः ।। ३८.

Prabhāsa, Bhāsakṛt, Dharma, Tejas, Raśmi, Ṛtu, Virāṭ, Arciṣmān, Dyotana, Bhānu, Yaśa, Kīrti, Budha, Dhṛti—these twenty are renowned as the Sutapas by name.

प्रभुर्विभुर्विभासश्च जेता हन्ताऽरिहा रितुः। सुमतिः प्रमतिर्दीप्तिः समाख्यातो महोमहान् ।। ३८.

Prabhu, Vibhu, Vibhāsa, Jetā, Hantā, Arihā, Ṛtu, Sumati, Pramati, Dīpti—these are proclaimed as the great and mighty ones.

देहो मुनिर्नयो ज्येष्ठः समः सत्यश्च विश्रुतः। इत्येते ह्यमिताभास्तु विंशतिः परिकीर्त्तिताः ।। ३८.

Deha, Muni, Naya, Jyeṣṭha, Sama, Satya, and Viśruta—thus these twenty Amitābhās are named.

दमो दाता विदः सोमो वित्तवैद्यौ यमो निधिः। होमं हव्यं हुतं दानं देयं दाता तपः शमः ।। ३८.

Dama, Dātā, Vida, Soma, Vittavid, Yama, Nidhi, Homa, Havya, Huta, Dāna, Deya, Dātā, Tapas, Śama—

ध्रुवं स्थानं विधानञ्च नियमश्चेति विंशतिः। मुख्या ह्येते समाख्याताः सावर्णे प्रथमेऽन्तरे ।। ३८.

Dhruva, Sthāna, Vidhāna, Niyama—these twenty are the chief ones declared in the first Sāvarṇi Manvantara.

मारीचस्यैव ते पुत्राः कश्यपस्य महात्मनः। साम्प्रतस्य भविष्यन्ति सावर्णस्यान्तरे मनोः ।। ३८.

They are the sons of Mārīca, of the great-souled Kaśyapa; in the coming Sāvarṇi Manvantara, they will be present.

तेषामिन्द्रो भविष्यस्तु बलिर्वैरोचनः पुरा। वीरवांश्चावरीयांश्च निर्मोहः सत्यवाक् कृती ।। ३८.

Among them, the Indra will be Bali, the son of Virocana, renowned of old, heroic, powerful, unwavering, truthful, and accomplished.

चरिष्णुराज्यो विष्णुश्च वाचः सुमतिरेव च। सावर्णस्य मनोः पुत्रा भविष्यन्ति नवैव तु ।। ३८.

Cariṣṇu, Ājya, Viṣṇu, Vāc, Sumati—these will be the nine sons of Manu Sāvarṇi.

नव चान्येषु वक्ष्यामि सावर्णेश्चान्तरेषु वै। सावर्णमनवश्चान्ये भविष्या ब्रह्मणः सुताः ।। ३८.

I shall also declare nine others in the other Sāvarṇi Manvantaras; the other Sāvarṇi Manus will be the sons of Brahmā.

मेरुसावर्णिनस्ते वै दृष्टा ये दिव्यदृष्टिभिः। दक्षस्य ते हि दौहित्राः प्रियाया दुहितुः सुताः ।। ३८.

Those Merusāvarṇi, whom you have seen with divine vision, are the grandsons of Dakṣa, the sons of his beloved daughter.

महता तपसा युक्ता मेरुपृष्ठे महौजसः। ब्रह्मादिभिस्ते जनिता दक्षेणैव च धीमता ।। ३८.

Endowed with great asceticism and mighty energy upon Mount Meru, they were created by Brahmā and others, as well as by the wise Dakṣa.

महर्लोकगतावृत्य भविष्या मेरुमाश्रिताः। महाभावात्तु ते पूर्वं जज्ञिरे चाक्षुषेऽन्तरे ।। ३८.

Having attained the Maharloka, they will reside on Meru in the future; due to their great nature, they were previously born in the Cākṣuṣa interval.

ऋषय ऊचुः।। दक्षेण जनिताः पुत्राः कन्यायामात्मनः कथम्। भवेत्तु ब्रह्मणश्चैव धर्मेण च महात्मनः ।। ३८.

The sages said: How were sons born by Dakṣa in his own daughter, and likewise by Brahmā and the great-souled Dharma?

सूत उवाच।। अतो भविष्यान् वक्ष्यामि सावर्णमनवस्तु ये। तेषां जन्म प्रभावञ्च नमस्कृत्य प्रचेतसे ।। ३८.

Sūta said: Now I shall speak of the future Sāvarṇa Manus, their birth and power, after offering reverence to Pracetasa.

वैवस्वते ह्युपस्पृष्टे किञ्चिच्छिष्टे च चाक्षुषे। जज्ञिरे मनवस्ते हि भविष्यानागतान्तरे ।। ३८.

When the Vaivasvata is completed and a little remains of the Cākṣuṣa, the Manus of the future and coming interval are born.

प्राचेतसस्य दक्षस्य दौहित्रा मनवस्तु ये। सावर्णा नामतः पञ्च चत्वारः परमर्षिजाः ।। ३८.

Those Manus, grandsons of Prācetasa Dakṣa, are known as Sāvarṇa by name; five and four are born from supreme sages.

संज्ञापुत्रस्तु सावर्ण एको वैवस्वतस्तथा। ज्येष्ठः संज्ञासुतो नाम मनुर्वैवस्वतः प्रभुः ।। ३८.

Sāvarṇa is the son of Saṃjñā, and likewise Vaivasvata; the eldest, named Manu, is the lord Vaivasvata, born of Saṃjñā.

वैवस्वतेऽन्तरे प्राप्ते समुत्पत्तिस्तयोः शुभा। चतुर्द्दशैते मनवः कीर्त्तिताः कीर्त्तिवर्द्धनाः ।। ३८.

When the Vaivasvata interval arrives, their auspicious birth occurs; these fourteen Manus are renowned, increasers of fame.

वेदे श्रुतौ पुराणे च सर्वे ते प्रभविष्णवः। प्रजानां पतयः सर्वे भूतानां पतयः स्थिताः ।। ३८.

In the Vedas, Śruti, and Purāṇas, all these powerful ones are mentioned; they are the lords of all creatures, the rulers of all beings.
