They will proceed to destruction, with only a diminished remnant at the end of the age; on the day when Kṛṣṇa ascended to heaven, at that very time.
The Kali age has commenced; understand its reckoning: here, three hundred thousand in human count, and sixty thousand years are said to be Kali.
A thousand divine years is declared as its twilight portion; when that is completely finished, the Kṛta age will begin again.
Aila and the Ikṣvāku lineage, along with their branches, are mentioned; the Kṣatriya line of Ikṣvāku is remembered as extending to Sumitra, son of Vivasvat.
The Aila Kṣatriya line is known as ending with Kṣemaka, by those who know the Soma lineage; these sons of Vivasvat are named, who increase fame.
Those who are past, present, and likewise those yet to come—Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, Vaiśyas, and Śūdras—are remembered in succession.
In every age, countless great souls have passed away; because of the multitude of their names, their enumeration is given lineage by lineage.
Because of their repetition and great number, I have not recounted them all; in this current Vaivasvata Manvantara, the line of Nimi comes to an end.
Now, regarding the account of the ages, from which the Kshatriya order will arise, I shall thus narrate; listen as I speak.
Devāpi, the Paurava king, and Ikshvāku, renowned and endowed with great yogic power, have taken up residence in the village of Kalāpa.
Suvarcā, son of Soma, will be born from Ikshvāku; these two will be the founders of the Kshatriya line in the twenty-fourth age.
But in the twentieth age, there will not be a founder of the Soma lineage; instead, Devāpi's rival, a king descended from Ila, will arise.
These two will become the progenitors of the Kshatriya line in the four ages; in this way, everywhere, the characteristics for the sake of lineage should be understood.
When the Kali Yuga is exhausted and the next Krita Yuga arises, together with those seven sages, in the first Treta Yuga again—
They will become the founders of the gotras and Kshatriya lines; in the Dvapara portion, the Kshatriyas do not remain together with the sages.
In the Krita Yuga, and again when the Treta Yuga declines, for the sake of seed, the Brahmin and Kshatriya lines will arise once more.
In this way, in all the intermediate periods, the seven sages, together with kings, remain in every age for the purpose of progeny.
The destruction of the Kshatriya line and its connection with the twice-born is remembered; the continuities of the seven Manvantaras are also heard.
The succession of the ages and the origin of the Brahmin and Kshatriya lines—just as their progress occurs, so too does their decline.
The seven sages know their (the lines') longevity and imperishability; by this sequence, the twice-born of the Aila and Ikshvaku lines arise.
Born in the Treta Yuga, and again as the Kali Yuga wanes, they follow the course of the ages until the end of the Manvantara.
When the Kshatriya order was utterly destroyed by Rāma, son of Jamadagni, all the dynasties and families were restored by Kshatriya rulers; I shall recount the creation of the two lineages, listen.
The nature of the Aila, Ikshvaku, and Nanda lines alternates; the kings are arranged in succession, as are the other Kshatriya rulers.
Those renowned in the Aila line, as well as the Ikshvaku kings, among them, there are a full hundred families of consecrated rulers.
The extent of the Bhojas is said to be twice as great; the Kshatriya class is divided into four parts, as previously described.
Now hear of those who surpassed their contemporaries: a hundred Prativindhyas, a hundred Nagas, and a hundred horses.
There were one hundred Dhritarashtras, eighty Janamejayas, and a hundred Brahmadattas, as well as a hundred Shirins and Virins.
Then, a hundred Puromas, and the Shvetakashas and Kushas; after them, another thousand who were the Shatabindavas of old.
All these performed Ashvamedha sacrifices, giving abundant gifts; thus, royal sages of the past numbered in hundreds and thousands.
Now, in this present interval of Manu Vaivasvata, listen to the lineages that have arisen in the world.
