अल्पप्रसादा ह्यनृता महाक्रोधाः ह्यधार्मिकाः। भविष्यन्तीह यवना धर्मतः कामतोऽर्थतः ।। ३७.
The Yavanas will be of little generosity, untruthful, greatly wrathful, and unrighteous, both in conduct, desire, and wealth.
नैव मूर्द्धाभिषिक्तास्ते भविष्यन्ति नराधिपाः। युगदोषदुराचारा भविष्यन्ति नृपास्तु ते ।। ३७.
They will not be kings anointed on the head; those kings will be of evil conduct due to the faults of the age.
स्त्रीणां बलवधेनैव हत्वा चैव परस्परम्। भोक्ष्यन्ति कलिशेषे तु वसुधां पार्थिवास्तथा ।। ३७.
By killing women and each other by force, the kings will enjoy the earth in the final portion of the Kali age.
उदितोदितवंशास्ते उदितास्तमितास्तथा । भविष्यन्तीह पर्याये कालेन पृथिवीक्षितः ।। ३७.
Those kings whose lineages rise and fall, appearing and disappearing, will rule the earth in succession, according to time.
विहीनास्तु भविष्यन्ति धर्म्मतः कामतोऽर्थतः। तैर्विमिश्रा जनपदा म्लेच्छाचाराश्च सर्वशः ।। ३७.
They will be devoid of righteousness, desire, and wealth; the lands mixed with them will entirely follow mleccha customs.
विपर्य्ययेन वर्त्तन्ते नाशयिष्यन्ति वै प्रजाः। लुब्धानृतरताश्चैव भवितारस्तदा नृपाः ।। ३७.
They will act contrary to order and will destroy the people; at that time, the kings will be greedy and delight in falsehood.
तेषां व्यतीते पर्याये बहुस्त्रीके युगे तदा। लवाल्लवं भ्रश्यमाना आयूरूपबलश्रुतैः ।। ३७.
When their turn has passed, in that age of many women, people will decline little by little in lifespan, appearance, strength, and learning.
तथा गतास्तु वै काष्ठां प्रजासु जगतीश्वराः । राजानः सम्प्रणश्यन्ति कालेनोपहतास्तदा ।। ३७.
Thus, when the kings have reached the lowest state among the people, they will perish, struck down by time.
कल्किनोपहताः सर्वे म्लेच्छा यास्यन्ति सर्वशः। अधार्मिकाश्च तेऽत्यर्थं पाषण्डाश्चैव सर्वशः ।। ३७.
All the mlecchas, being destroyed by Kalki, will depart entirely; they will be extremely unrighteous and wholly heretical.
प्रनष्टे नृपशब्दे च सन्ध्याश्लिष्टे कलौ युगे। किंञ्चिच्छिष्टाः प्रजास्ता वै धर्म्मे नष्टेऽपरिग्रहाः ।। ३७.
When the title of king is lost and the twilight of the Kali age is joined, only a few people will remain, bereft of righteousness and possessions.
असाधना हताश्वासा व्याधिशोकेन पीडिताः। अनावृष्टिहताश्चैव परस्परवधेन च ।। ३७.
Without means, their hopes destroyed, afflicted by disease and sorrow, struck by drought, and by mutual killing.
अनाथा हि परित्रस्ता वार्त्तामुत्सृज्य दुःखिताः। त्यक्त्वा पुराणि ग्रामांश्च भविष्यन्ति वनौकसः ।। ३७.
Helpless and terrified, abandoning their livelihoods in misery, forsaking ancient villages, they will become dwellers of the forests.
एवं नृपेषु नष्टेषु प्रजास्त्यक्त्वा गृहाणि तु। नष्टे स्नेहे दुरापन्ना भ्रष्टस्नेहाः सुहृज्जनाः ।। ३७.
Thus, when kings are lost, the people, abandoning their homes, deprived of affection, will suffer; their friends will lose their bonds of love.
वर्णाश्रमपरिभ्रष्टाः सङ्करं घोरमास्थिताः। सरित्पर्वतसेविन्यो भविष्यन्ति प्रजास्तदा ।। ३७.
Having fallen away from caste and stage of life, embracing dreadful confusion, the people will then dwell by rivers and mountains.
सरितः सागरानूपान् सेवन्ते पर्वतानि च। अङ्गान् कलिङ्गान् वङ्गांश्च काश्मीरान् काशिकोशलान् ।। ३७.
They will frequent rivers, seashores, and mountains, as well as Anga, Kaliṅga, Vaṅga, Kāśmīra, Kāśi, and Kośala.
ऋषिकान्तगिरिद्रोणीः संश्रयिष्यन्ति मानवाः। कृत्स्नं हिमवतः पृष्ठं कूलं च लवणाम्भसः ।। ३७.
Humans will take refuge in the slopes and valleys of the sages' mountains, the entire ridge of the Himalayas, and the banks of the salty sea.
अरण्यान्यभिपत्स्यन्ति ह्यार्य्या म्लेच्छजनैः सह। मृगैर्मीनैर्विहङ्गैश्च श्वापदैस्तक्षुभिस्तथा। मधुशाकफलैर्मूलैर्वर्त्तयिष्यन्ति मानवाः ।। ३७.
The noble, together with foreigners, will enter the forests; with beasts, fish, birds, and wild animals, disturbed likewise, humans will subsist on honey, vegetables, fruits, and roots.
चीरं पर्णञ्च विविधं वल्कलान्यजिनानि च। स्वयं कृत्वा विवत्स्यन्ति यथा मुनिजनास्तथा ।। ३७.
They will make for themselves various bark garments, leaves, and skins, and live as the sages do.
बीजान्नानि तथा निम्नेस्वीहन्तः काष्ठशङ्कुभिः। अजैडकं खरोष्ट्रञ्च पालयिष्यन्ति यत्नतः ।। ३७.
They will cultivate grain in lowlands, using wooden stakes; with care, they will tend goats, sheep, donkeys, and camels.
नदीर्वत्स्यन्ति तोयार्थे कूलमाश्रित्य मानवाः। पार्थिवान् व्यवहारेण विबाधन्तः परस्परम् ।। ३७.
Humans will live by rivers for water, settling on the banks, and, through dealings, will harass one another.
बहुमन्याः प्रजाहीनाः शौचाचारविवर्जिताः। एवं भविष्यन्ति नरास्तदाधर्म्मे व्यवस्थिताः ।। ३७.
Highly regarded, but bereft of people, lacking purity and proper conduct, thus men will exist, established in unrighteousness.
हीनाद्धीनांस्तथा धर्म्मान् प्रजाः समनुवर्त्तते। आयुस्तदा त्रयोविंशं न कश्चिदतिवर्त्तते ।। ३७.
The people will follow inferior and deficient dharmas; at that time, no one will live beyond twenty-three years.
दुर्बला विषयग्लाना जरया संपरिप्लुताः। पत्रमूलफलाहाराश्चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बराः ।। ३७.
Weak, exhausted by sense pleasures, overwhelmed by old age, subsisting on leaves, roots, and fruits, clad in bark and black antelope skins.
वृत्त्यर्थमभिलिप्सन्तश्चरिष्यन्ति वसुन्धराम्। एतत्कालमनुप्राप्ताः प्रजाः कलियुगान्तके ।। ३७.
Seeking livelihood, they will wander the earth; these people, arriving at this time, will be at the end of the Kali age.
क्षीणे कलियुगे तस्मिन् दिव्ये वर्षसहस्रके। निःशेषास्तु भविष्यन्ति सार्द्धं कलियुगेन तु। ससन्ध्यांशे तु निःशेषे कृतं वै प्रतिपत्स्यते ।। ३७.
When that Kali age is depleted, in the divine thousand years, all will perish together with the Kali age; when its twilight portion is completely ended, the Krita age will be restored.
यदा चन्द्रश्च सूर्य्यश्च तथा तिष्यबृहस्पती। एकरात्रे भरिष्यन्ति तदा कृतयुगं भवेत् ।। ३७.
When the moon, the sun, and Tishya-Brihaspati occupy the same night, then the Krita age will arise.
एष वंशक्रमः कृत्स्नं कीर्तितो वो यथाक्रमम्। अतीता वर्त्तमानाश्च तथैवानागताश्च ये ।। ३७.
This entire lineage has been recounted to you in order, those past, present, and likewise those yet to come.
महादेवाभिषेकात्तु जन्म यावत्परिक्षितः। एतद्वर्षसहस्रन्तु ज्ञेयं पञ्चादशदुत्तरम् ।। ३७.
From the consecration of Mahadeva up to the birth of Parikshit, this thousand years, with fifteen added, should be known.
प्रमाणं वै तथा चोक्तं महापद्मान्तरं च यत्। अन्तरं तच्छतान्यष्टौ षट्त्रिंशच्च समाः स्मृताः ।। ३७.
The measure has thus been stated, as well as the interval of the Mahāpadma; that interval is reckoned as one hundred and eighty-six years.
एतत्कालान्तरं भाव्या अन्ध्रान्ता ये प्रकीर्त्तिताः। भविष्यैस्तत्र सङ्ख्याताः पुराणज्ञैः श्रुतर्षिभिः ।। ३७.
This span of time is to be considered for those called the Andhra-ending ones; their numbers have been declared by the sages who know the Purāṇas.
