गङ्गायमुनयोर्मध्ये निष्ठां प्राप्स्यति सानुगः। ततो व्यतीते कल्कौ तु सामान्यैः सह सैनिकैः ।। ३६.
He, together with his followers, will attain his abode between the Ganges and Yamuna; then, when Kalki has departed, along with his common soldiers.
नृपेष्वथ विनष्टेषु तदा त्वप्रग्रहाः प्रजाः। रक्षणे विनिवृत्ते तु हत्वा चान्योन्यमाहवे ।। ३६.
When the kings have perished, then the people will be without restraint; when protection has ceased, having slain each other in battle.
परस्परहृताश्वासा निराक्रन्दाः सुदुःखिताः। पुराणि हित्वा ग्रामांश्च तुल्यास्ता निष्परिग्रहाः ।। ३६.
Having lost mutual comfort, without cries, greatly afflicted, abandoning cities and villages, they will be equal, without possessions.
प्रनष्टश्रुतिधर्माश्च नष्टधर्माश्रमास्तथा। ह्रस्वा अल्पायुषश्चैव वनौकस इमे स्मृताः ।। ३६.
Their sacred learning and dharma will be lost, as well as the dharma-ashramas; short-lived and of little vitality, these are remembered as dwellers of the forest.
सरित्पर्वतसेविन्यः पत्रमूलफलाशनाः। चीर पत्राजिनधराः सङ्करं घोरमास्थिताः ।। ३६.
Dwelling among rivers and mountains, subsisting on leaves, roots, and fruits, clad in bark, leaves, or animal skins, they embraced a dreadful asceticism.
अल्पायुषो नष्टवार्त्ता बह्वाबाधाः सुदुःखिताः। एवं कष्टमनुप्राप्ताः कलिसन्ध्यंशके तदा ।। ३६.
Short-lived, forgotten by the world, afflicted by many troubles, and greatly distressed, thus they fell into hardship during that portion of the twilight of Kali.
प्रजाः क्षयं प्रयास्यन्ति सार्द्धं कलियुगेन तु । क्षीणे कलियुगे तस्मिन् प्रवृत्ते च कृते पुनः ।। ३६.
The people will decline together with the Kali Yuga; when that Kali Yuga is exhausted and the Krita age begins again—
प्रपत्स्यन्ते यथान्यायं स्वभावादेव नान्यता। इत्येतत् कीर्तितं सर्वं देवासुरविचेष्टितम् ।। ३६.
They will act according to what is proper, by their very nature, without deviation; thus all the deeds of gods and asuras have been recounted.
यदुवंशप्रसङ्गेन महद्वो वैष्णवं यशः । तुर्वसोस्तु प्रवक्ष्यामि पूरोर्द्रुह्योरनोस्तथा ।। ३६.
In the context of the Yadu lineage, your great Vaishnava glory has been described; now I will narrate about Turvasu, as well as about Puru, Druhyu, and Anu.
तुर्वसोस्तु सुतो वह्निर्वह्नेर्गोभानुरात्मजः। गोभानोस्तु सुतो वीरस्त्रिसानुरपराजितः ।। ३७.
Turvasu's son was Vahni, and Vahni's son was Gobhānu; Gobhānu's son was the mighty Trisānu, whose son was Aparājita.
करन्धमस्त्रिसानोस्तु मरुत्तस्य न चात्मजः। अन्यस्त्ववीक्षितो राजा मरुत्तः कथितः पुरा ।। ३७.
Karandhama was the son of Trisānu, but Marutta was not his son; another king named Marutta, who was not his descendant, is spoken of from earlier times.
अनवत्यो मरुत्तस्तु स राजासीदिति श्रुतम्। दुष्कृतं पौरवं चापि सर्वे पुत्रमकल्पयन् ।। ३७.
That Marutta was without an heir, as is heard; and all considered the son of Duṣkṛta, of the Paurava line, as unfit.
एवं ययादिशापेन जरायाः संक्रमेण तु । तुर्वसोः पौरवं वंशं प्रविवेश पुरा किल ।। ३७.
Thus, by the curse of Yayāti and through the succession of old age, Turvasu once entered the Paurava lineage.
दुष्कृतस्य तु दायादः शरूथो नाम पार्थिवः। शरूथात्तु जनापीडश्चत्वारस्तस्य चात्मजाः ।। ३७.
The heir of Duṣkṛta was a king named Śarūtha; from Śarūtha came Janāpīḍa, and he had four sons.
पाण्ड्यश्च केरलश्चैव चोलः कुल्यस्तथैव च। तेषां जनपदाः कुल्याः पाण्ड्याश्चोलाः सकेरलाः ।। ३७.
They were Pāṇḍya, Kerala, Cola, and Kulya; their peoples are known as Kulyas, Pāṇḍyas, Colas, and those of Kerala.
द्रुह्योस्तु तनयौ वीरौ बभ्रुः सेतुश्च विश्रुतौ। अरुद्धः सेतुपुत्रस्तु बाभ्रवो रिपुरुच्यते ।। ३७.
Druhyu had two renowned and valiant sons, Babhru and Setu; Setu's son was Aruddha, and Babhru's son is called Ripu.
यौवनाश्वेन समिति कृच्छ्रेण निहतो बली। युद्धं सुमहदासीत्तु मासान् परि चतुर्दश ।। ३७.
The mighty Aruddha was slain in battle by Yauvanāśva with great difficulty; the war lasted for fourteen months.
अरुद्धस्य तु दायादो गान्धारो नाम पार्थिवः। ख्यायते यस्य नाम्ना तु गान्धारविषयो महान् ।। ३७.
Aruddha's heir was a king named Gāndhāra, after whom the great region of Gāndhāra is known.
गान्धारदेशजाश्चापि तुरगा वाजिनां वराः। गान्धारपुत्रो धर्म्मस्तु घृतस्तस्य सुतोऽभवत् ।। ३७.
The horses born in the land of Gāndhāra are the best among steeds; Gāndhāra's son was Dharma, whose son was Ghṛta.
घृतस्य दुर्दमो जज्ञे प्रचेतास्तस्य चात्मजः । प्रचेतसः पुत्रशतं राजानः सर्व एव ते ।। ३७.
Ghṛta's son was Durdama, and Pracetā was his son; Pracetā had a hundred sons, all of whom were kings.
म्लेच्छराष्ट्राधिपाः सर्वे ह्युदीचीं दिशमाश्रिताः। अनोः पुत्रा महात्मानस्त्रयः परमधार्म्मिकाः ।। ३७.
All were rulers of foreign lands, settled in the northern direction; Anu had three great and supremely righteous sons.
सभानरश्च पक्षश्च परपक्षस्तथैव च। सभानरस्य पुत्रस्तु विद्वान् कालानलो नृपः ।। ३७.
They were Sabhānara, Pakṣa, and Parapakṣa; Sabhānara's son was the wise king Kālānala.
कालानलस्य धर्म्मात्मा सृञ्जयो नाम धार्मिकः । सृञ्जयस्याभवत् पुत्रो वीरो राजा पुरञ्जयः ।। ३७.
There was a righteous king named Sṛñjaya, whose nature was virtuous like the fire of time; Sṛñjaya had a son, the heroic king Purañjaya.
जनमेजयो महा सत्वः पुरञ्जयसुतोऽभवत्। जनमेजयस्य राजर्षेर्महाशालोऽभवभृपः ।। ३७.
Janamejaya, of great strength, was born as the son of Purañjaya; Janamejaya, the royal sage, had a son named Mahāśāla, who became king.
आसीदिन्द्रसमो राजा प्रतिष्ठितयशा दिवि। महामनाः सुतस्तस्य महा शालस्य धार्मिकः ।। ३७.
There was a king, equal to Indra, whose fame was established in the heavens; his virtuous son was Mahāmanā, born to Mahāśāla.
सप्तद्वीपेश्वरो राजा चक्रवर्त्ती महायशाः। महामनास्तु पुत्रौ द्वौ जनयामास विश्रुतौ ।। ३७.
The king Mahāmanā, lord of the seven continents and a universal emperor of great renown, begot two illustrious sons.
उशीनरञ्च धर्मज्ञं तितिक्षुञ्चैव धार्मिकम्। उशीनरस्य पत्न्यस्तु पञ्च राजर्षिवंशजाः ।। ३७.
He begot Uśīnara, who knew righteousness, and Titikṣu, who was also virtuous; Uśīnara's wives gave birth to five sons, all descended from royal sages.
मृगा कृमी नवा दर्वा पञ्चमी च दृषद्वती। उशीनरस्य पुत्रास्तु पञ्च तासु कुलोद्वहाः। तपसा ते सुमहता जातवृद्धाश्च धार्मिकाः ।। ३७.
Mṛgā, Kṛmī, Navā, Darvā, and the fifth, Dṛṣadvatī, were the five wives of Uśīnara; from them came five sons, leaders of their clans, who grew through great austerity and were righteous.
मृगायास्तु मृगः पुत्रो नवाया नव एव तु। कृम्याः कृमिस्तु दर्वायाः सुव्रतो नाम धार्मिकः ।। ३७.
Mṛgā's son was Mṛga; Navā's son was Nava; Kṛmī's son was Kṛmi; Darvā's son was named Suvrata, who was virtuous.
दृषद्वतीसुतश्चापि शिविरौशीनरो द्विजाः। शिवेः शिवपुरं ख्यातं यौधेयन्तु मृगस्य तु ।। ३७.
Dṛṣadvatī's son was Śivi, O twice-born, and Uśīnara; Śivi's city was famed as Śivapura, and Mṛga's was known as Yaudheya.
