Vayu Purana

शुचये रेरिहाणाय सद्योजाताय मृत्यवे। पिशिताशाय खर्वाय मेधाय वैद्युताय च ।। ३५.

To the pure one, to the flaming one, to the one born instantly, to Death; to the eater of flesh, to the dwarf, to the wise, and to the lightning-formed.

व्याश्रिताय श्रविष्टाय भारतायान्तरिक्षये। क्षमाय सह मानाय सत्याय तपनाय च ।। ३५.

To the one who is resorted to, to the most renowned, to the descendant of Bharata, to the one who pervades the midspace; to patience, to strength, to honor, to truth, and to the burning one.

त्रिपुरघ्नाय दीप्ताय चक्राय रोमशाय च। तिग्मायुधाय मेध्याय सिद्धाय च पुलस्तये ।। ३५.

To the destroyer of Tripura, to the shining one, to the one with the discus, to the hairy one; to the one with sharp weapons, to the pure, to the accomplished, and to Pulastya.

रोचमानाय खण्डाय स्फीताय ऋषभाय च। भोगिने पुञ्जमानाय शान्तायैवोर्द्ध्वरेतसे ।। ३५.

To the radiant one, to the fragmentary, to the abundant, to the bull; to the serpent, to the gatherer, to the peaceful, and to the one with upward-flowing seed.

अघघ्नाय मख्घ्नाय मृत्यवे यज्ञियाय च। कृशानवे प्रचेताय वह्नये किशलाय च ।। ३५.

To the destroyer of sin, to the destroyer of sacrifice, to Death, to the worthy of sacrifice; to the blazing one, to the wise, to the fire, and to the tender shoot.

सिकत्याय प्रसन्नाय वरेण्यायैव चक्षुषे। क्षिप्रेगवे सुधन्वाय प्रमेध्याय प्रियाय च ।। ३५.

To the sandy one, to the clear, to the most excellent, to the one with vision; to the swift bull, to the one with a good bow, to the most pure, and to the beloved.

रक्षोघ्नाय पशुघ्नाय विघ्नाय शयनाय च। विभ्रान्ताय महन्ताय अन्तये दुर्गमाय च ।। ३५.

To the destroyer of demons, to the destroyer of cattle, to the obstacle, to the one who lies down; to the wandering one, to the great, to the end, and to the difficult to reach.

दक्षाय च जघन्याय लोकानामीश्वराय च। अनामयाय चोर्द्ध्वाय संहत्याधिष्ठिताय च ।। ३५.

To the skillful, to the lowest, to the lord of the worlds; to the free from disease, to the upright, to the one established in union.

हिरण्यबाहवे चैव सत्याय शमनाय च। असिकल्याय माघाय रीरिण्यायैकचक्षुषे ।। ३५.

To the golden-armed, to the truthful, to the pacifier; to the dark-skinned, to the one born in the month of Magha, to the destroyer, to the one-eyed.

श्रेष्ठाय वामदेवाय ईशानाय च धीमते। महाकल्पाय दीप्ताय रादेनाय हसाय च ।। ३५.

To the most excellent, to Vamadeva, to Ishana, to the wise; to the one of great duration, to the shining, to the radiant, and to the laughing one.

वृतधन्वने कविचिने रथिने च वरूथिने। भृगुनाथाय शुक्राय वह्निरिष्टाय धीमते ।। ३५.

To the one with a curved bow, to the clever, to the charioteer, to the one with an army; to the lord of Bhrigu, to the pure, to the fire, to the desired, to the wise.

अघाय अघशंसाय विप्रियाय प्रियाय च । दिग्वासःकृत्तिवासाय भगघ्नाय नमोऽस्तु ते ।। ३५.

To the sinful, to the blasphemer, to the unfriendly, to the friendly; to the sky-clad, to the one clothed in hides, to the destroyer of fortune—salutations to you.

पशूनां पतये चैव भूतानां पतये नमः। प्रणने ऋग्यजुःसाम्ने स्वधायै च सुधाय च ।। ३५.

Salutations to the lord of cattle, and to the lord of beings; to the breath, to the Rig, Yajur, and Sama, to the oblation, and to the nectar.

वषट्कारतमायैव तुभ्यमन्तात्मने नमः । स्रष्ट्रे धात्रे तथा होत्रे हर्त्रे च क्षपणाय च ।। ३५.

To the one most characterized by the syllable 'vashat', to you, the inner self, salutations; to the creator, the supporter, the sacrificer, the destroyer, and the remover.

भूतभव्यभवायैव तुभ्यं कालात्मने नमः। वसवे चैव साध्याय रुद्रादित्याश्विनाय च ।। ३५.

To the one who is past, future, and present, to you, the soul of time, salutations; to the Vasus, to the Sadhyas, to Rudra, Aditya, and the Ashvins.

विश्वाय मरुते चैव तुभ्यन्देवात्मने नमः। अग्निसोमर्त्विगिज्याय पशुमन्त्रौषधाय च ।। ३५.

To the all-pervading, to Marut, to you, the soul of the gods, salutations; to Agni, Soma, the priests, to the one who is praised, to the lord of cattle, and to the plants.

दक्षिणावभृथायैव तुभ्यं यज्ञात्मने नमः । तपसे चैव सत्याय त्यागाय च शमाय च ।। ३५.

To the southern and final bath, to you, the soul of sacrifice, salutations; to austerity, to truth, to renunciation, and to tranquility.

अहिंसायाप्यलोभाय सुवेशायातिशाय च। सर्वभूतात्मभूताय तुभ्यं योगात्मने नमः ।। ३५.

Homage to you, who are the soul of yoga, for nonviolence, non-covetousness, excellent appearance, and for being the self of all beings.

पृथिव्यै चान्तरिक्षाय दिवाय च महाय च। जनस्तपाय सत्याय तुभ्यं लोकात्मने नमः ।। ३५.

Homage to you, who are the soul of the worlds: of earth, of the atmosphere, of heaven, of the great (realm), of Jana, of Tapas, and of Truth.

अव्यक्तायाथ महते भूतायैवोन्द्रियाय च । तन्मात्राय महान्ताय तुभ्यं तत्त्वात्मने नमः ।। ३५.

Homage to you, who are the soul of the principles: the unmanifest, the great, the elements, the senses, the subtle elements, and the great one.

नित्याय चार्थलिङ्गाय सूक्ष्माय चेतनाय च। शुद्धाय विभवे चैव तुभ्यं नित्यात्मने नमः ।। ३५.

Homage to you, who are the eternal soul: eternal, marked by meaning, subtle, conscious, pure, and powerful.

नमस्ते त्रिषु लोकेषु स्वरान्तेषु भवादिषु। सत्यान्तेषु महान्तेषु चतुर्षु च नमोऽस्तु ते ।। ३५.

Salutations to you in the three worlds, at the ends of heaven, in the states from becoming onward, at the ends of truth, in the great ones, and in the four (realms).

नमःस्तोत्रे मया ह्यस्मिन् सदसद्व्याहृतं विभो। मद्भक्त इति ब्रह्मण्य सर्वन्तत् क्षन्तुमर्हसि ।। ३५.

O Lord, in this hymn of praise by me, whatever has been spoken rightly or wrongly, as your devotee and as one devoted to Brahman, you should forgive all that.

सूत उवाच।। एवमाराध्य देवेशमीशानं नीललोहितम्। ब्रह्मेति प्रणतस्तस्मै प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमब्रवीत् ।। ३६.

Sūta said: Thus, having worshipped the Lord of gods, Īśāna, the blue-red one, and bowing to him as Brahman, with joined palms he spoke these words.

काव्यस्य गात्रं संस्पृश्य हस्तेन प्रीतिमान् भवः। निकामं दर्शनं दत्त्वा तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ।। ३६.

Bhava, pleased, touched the body of Kāvyā with his hand, granted her the vision as she desired, and then vanished right there.

ततः सोऽन्तर्हिते तस्मिन् देवेशानुचरे तदा। तिष्ठन्तीं प्राञ्जलिर्भूत्वा जयन्तीमिदमब्रवीत् ।। ३६.

Then, when that Lord of gods had disappeared, his attendant Jayantī, standing with joined palms, spoke these words.

कस्य त्वं सुभगे का वा दुःखिते मयि दुःखिता। महता तपसा युक्तं किमर्थं माञ्जुगोपसि ।। ३६.

Who are you, O fortunate one? Whose are you? Why are you sorrowful when I am in distress? Endowed with great austerity, for what purpose do you protect me?

अनया सततं भक्त्या प्रश्रयेण दमेन च। स्नेहेन चैव सुश्रोणि प्रीतोऽस्मि वरवर्णिनि ।। ३६.

By this constant devotion, humility, self-restraint, and affection, O beautiful-hipped, lovely-complexioned one, I am pleased with you.

किमिच्छसि वरारेहे कस्ते कामः समृध्यताम्। तं ते संपूरयाम्यद्य यद्यपि स्यात् सुदुर्लभम् ।। ३६.

What do you desire, O best of women? What is your wish? Let it be fulfilled. Today I will grant it to you, even if it is very difficult to obtain.
