युगानुरूपं यः कृत्वा त्रील्लोँकान् हि यथाक्रमम्। क्षणा निमेषाः काष्ठाश्च कलास्त्रैकालमेव च ।। ३५.
He who, adapting to each age, created the three worlds in due order, and likewise moments, twinklings, kāṣṭhās, kalās, and the threefold time.
मुहूर्त्तास्तिथयो मासा दिनसंवत्सरास्तथा। ऋतवः कालयोगाश्च प्रमाणं त्रिविधन्तथा ।। ३५.
He made the muhūrtas, lunar days, months, days, years, seasons, conjunctions of time, and likewise the threefold measure.
आयुः क्षेत्राण्युपचयं लक्षणं रूपसौष्ठवम्। मेधा वित्तं च शौर्य्यञ्च शास्त्रस्यैव च पारणम् ।। ३५.
He established lifespan, fields, growth, marks, beauty of form, intelligence, wealth, valor, and the mastery of scripture.
त्रयो वर्णास्त्रयो लोकास्त्रैविद्यं पावकास्त्रयः। त्रैकाल्यं त्रीणि कर्म्माणि तिस्रो मायास्त्रयो गुणाः ।। ३५.
The three castes, the three worlds, the triple knowledge, the three fires, the three times, the three acts, the three māyās, and the three qualities were created by him.
सृष्टा लोकाः सुराश्चैव येनात्यन्तेन कर्म्मणा। सर्व्वभूतगणाः सृष्टाः सर्व्वभूतगणात्मना ।। ३५.
By whose supreme act the worlds and the gods were created, and all the hosts of beings, he who is the soul of all beings.
नृणामिन्द्रियपूर्व्वेण योगेन रमते च यः । गतागतानां यो नेता सर्व्वत्र विविधेश्वरः ।। ३५.
He who delights through the yoga of the senses in men, who is the leader of the coming and going of all, the lord of all diversity everywhere.
यो गतिर्धर्मयुक्तानामगतिः पापकर्म्मणाम्। चातुर्वर्ण्यस्य प्रभवश्चातुर्वर्ण्यस्य रक्षिता ।। ३५.
He is the path for those who are righteous, and the absence of path for those who perform evil deeds; the origin of the fourfold order, and the protector of the fourfold order.
चातुर्विद्यस्य यो वेत्ता चतुराश्रमसंश्रयः। दिगन्तरं नभो भूमिरापो वायुर्विभावसुः ।। ३५.
He is the knower of the four Vedas, the refuge of the four stages of life; the directions, the sky, the earth, the waters, the wind, and the fire.
चन्द्रसूर्य्यद्वयं ज्योतिर्युगेशः क्षणदाचरः। यः परः श्रूयते देवो यः परं श्रूयते तपः ।। ३५.
The two lights, the moon and the sun; the lord of the ages, the wanderer of the night; he who is called the supreme god, he who is called the supreme austerity.
यः परन्तपसः प्राहुर्यः परम्परमात्मवान्। आदित्यादिस्तु यो देवो यश्च दैत्यान्तको विभुः ।। ३५.
He who is said to be the highest of ascetics, who is the supreme, the supreme self-possessed; who is the god beginning with the Adityas, and who is the mighty destroyer of the Daityas.
युगान्तेष्वन्तको यश्च यश्च लोकान्तकान्तकः। सेतुर्यो लोकसेतूनां मेध्यो यो मेध्यकर्म्मणाम् ।। ३५.
He who is the ender at the end of the ages, and the destroyer of the destroyers of worlds; the bridge among the bridges of the worlds, the pure among those of pure deeds.
वेद्यो यो वेदविदुषां प्रभुर्यः प्रभवात्मनाम्। सोमभूतस्तु भूतानामग्निभूतोऽग्निवर्चसाम् ।। ३५.
He who is to be known by the knowers of the Veda, the lord of those who possess creative power; who became Soma among beings, and fire among those radiant with fire.
मनुष्याणां मनोभूतस्तपोभूतस्तपस्विनाम् । विनयो नयतृप्तानां तेजस्तेजस्विनामपि ।। ३५.
He became the mind among men, austerity among ascetics; humility among those satisfied with discipline, and brilliance even among the brilliant.
विग्रहो विग्रहाणां यो गतिर्गतिमतामपि। आकाश प्रभवो वायुर्वायुप्राणा हुताशनः ।। ३५.
He is the form among forms, the goal even of those who have goals; the wind born of space, the vital breath, the fire of oblations.
दिवा हुताशनप्राणाः प्राणोऽग्नेर्मधुसूदनः। रसोऽभवच्छोणितं वै शोणितान्मांसमुच्यते ।। ३५.
By day, the fire of oblations is the vital breath; the vital breath of fire is Madhusudana; sap became blood, and from blood, flesh is said to arise.
मांसात्तु मेदसो जन्म मेदसोऽस्थि निरूप्यते। अस्थ्ना मज्जा समभवन्मज्जातः शुक्रसम्भवः ।। ३५.
From flesh arises fat, from fat is produced bone; from bone comes marrow, and from marrow is the origin of semen.
शुक्राद्घर्भः समभवद्रसमूलेन कर्म्मणा। तत्रापि प्रथमञ्चापस्ताः सौम्यराशिरुच्यते ।। ३५.
From semen, the embryo is produced, by the action rooted in sap; among these, first are the waters, which are called the lunar mass.
गर्भोष्मसम्भवो ज्ञेयो द्वितीयो राशिरुच्यते। शुक्रं सोमात्मकं विद्यादार्त्तवं पावकात्मकम् ।। ३५.
The embryo is known to arise from heat as the second mass; semen is to be understood as lunar in nature, menstrual blood as fiery in nature.
भावौ रसानुगावेतौ वीर्य्ये च शशिपावकौ। कफवर्गेऽभवच्छुक्रं पित्तवर्गे च शोणितम् ।। ३५.
These two states follow sap, and in potency are the moon and fire; in the phlegmatic group, semen arises, and in the bilious group, blood.
कफस्य हृदयं स्थानं नाभ्यां पित्तं प्रतिष्ठितम्। देहस्य मध्ये हृदयं स्थानन्तु मनसः स्मृतम् ।। ३५.
The heart is the seat of phlegm, the navel is the seat of bile; the heart is remembered as the seat of the mind in the middle of the body.
नाबिकोष्ठान्तरं यत्तु तत्र देवो हुताशनः। मनः प्रजापतिर्ज्ञेयं कफः सोमो विभाव्यते ।। ३५.
The inner region of the navel is where the god of fire resides; the mind is to be known as Prajapati, and phlegm is understood as Soma.
पित्तमग्निः स्मृतावेतावग्निसोमात्मकं जगत्। एवं प्रवर्त्तितो गर्भो वर्त्ततेऽम्बुदसन्निभः ।। ३५.
Bile is fire; these two, fire and Soma, are said to be the essence of the world; thus the embryo develops, resembling a mass of water.
वायुः प्रवेशनं चक्रे सङ्गतः परमात्मना। स पञ्चधा शरीरस्थो विद्यते वर्द्धयेत् पुनः ।। ३५.
The wind, united with the supreme self, entered; it exists in the body in fivefold form, and again causes growth.
प्राणापानौ समानश्च उदानो व्यान एव च। प्राणोऽस्य परमात्मानं वर्द्धयन् परिवर्त्तते ।। ३५.
Prāṇa and Apāna, Samāna, Udāna, and Vyāna; Prāṇa, increasing the supreme self, moves within.
अपानः पश्चिमं कायमुदानोर्द्ध्वशरीरगः। व्यानो व्यानस्यते येन समानः सर्व्वसन्धिषु ।। ३५.
Apāna moves in the lower body, udāna rises upward in the body; vyāna pervades everywhere, and samāna is present in all the joints.
भूतावाप्तिस्ततस्तस्य जायतेन्द्रियगोचरा। पृथिवी वायुराकाशमापो ज्योतिश्च पञ्चमम् ।। ३५.
From that, the perception of the elements arises, accessible to the senses: earth, air, space, water, and the fifth, fire.
सर्व्वेन्द्रिया निविष्टास्तं स्वं स्वं योगं प्रचक्रिरे। पार्थिवं देहमाहुस्तं प्राणात्मानं च मारुतम् ।। ३५.
All the senses are established there, each performing its own function; that is called the earthly body, and the vital self is said to be the wind.
छिद्राण्याकाशयोनीनि जलास्रावं प्रवर्त्तते । तेजश्चक्षुःष्विता ज्योत्स्ना तेषां यन्नामतः स्मृतम्। सङ्ग्रामा विषयाश्चैव यस्य वीर्य्यात्प्रवर्त्तिताः ।। ३५.
Openings are born from space, and the flow of fluids is set in motion; fire becomes sight, and its brilliance is called light; the senses and their domains arise from its power.
इत्येतान् पुरुषः सर्व्वान् सृजँल्लोकान् सनातनः। नैधनेऽस्मिन् कथं लोके नरत्वं विष्णुरागतः ।। ३५.
Thus, the eternal Person creates all these worlds; how then, in this mortal world, did Viṣṇu take on human form?
एष नः संशयो धीमन्नेष वै विस्मयो महान् । कथं गतिर्गतिमतामापन्नो मानुषीं तनुम् ।। ३५.
This is our doubt, O wise one, and truly a great wonder: how did the one who moves among the movers come to possess a human body?
