एवं मिथ्या नरश्रेष्ठ वागेषा न भविष्यति। एवमुक्तोऽनुनीतः स जग्राह तनयांस्तदा ।। ३४.
Thus, O best of men, this speech will not prove false; so addressed and appeased, he then took the maiden.
वसुदेवश्च तां भार्य्यामवाप्य मुदितोऽभवत्। कंसश्चास्यावधीत् पुत्रान् पापकर्म्मा वृथामतिः ।। ३४.
Vasudeva, having received his wife, became joyful; Kaṃsa, wicked and foolish, killed her sons.
ऋषय ऊचुः ।। क एष वसुदेवश्च देवकी च यशस्विनी। नन्दगोपस्तु कस्त्वेष यशोदा च महायशाः। यो विष्णुं जनयामास या चैनं चाभ्यवर्द्धयत् ।। ३४.
The sages said: Who is this Vasudeva, and who is the illustrious Devakī? Who is Nandagopa, and who is the renowned Yaśodā, who gave birth to Viṣṇu and who raised him?
सूत ऊवाच।। पुरुषाः कश्यपस्यासन्नादित्यास्तु स्त्रियास्तथा। अथ कामान् महाबाहुर्देवक्याः समवर्द्धयत् ।। ३४.
The Sūta said: The men were from Kaśyapa, and the women from the Ādityas; then, by desire, the mighty one was raised by Devakī.
अचरत् स महीं देवः प्रविष्टो मानुषीं तनुम्। मोहयन् सर्वभूतानि योगात्मा योगमायया ।। ३४.
That god wandered the earth, entering a human body, deluding all beings by his yogic power and magical illusion.
नष्टे धर्म्मे तदा जज्ञे विष्णुर्वृष्णिकुले स्वयम्। कर्तुं धर्म्मव्यवस्थानमसुराणां प्रणाशनम् ।। ३४.
When dharma was lost, Viṣṇu was born in the Vṛṣṇi clan, to establish dharma and destroy the demons.
आहृता रुक्मिणी कन्या सत्या नग्नजितस्तदा। सात्राजिती सत्यभामा जाम्बवत्यपि रोहिणी ।। ३४.
Rukmiṇī was brought as a bride, as were Satyā, the daughter of Nagnajit, Satrājitī, Satyabhāmā, Jāmbavatī, and Rohiṇī.
शैब्या सुदेवी माद्री च सुशीला नाम चापरा। कालिन्दी मित्रविन्दा च लक्ष्मणा जालवासिनी ।। ३४.
Śaibyā, Sudevī, Mādrī, another named Suśīlā, Kālindī, Mitravindā, Lakṣmaṇā, and Jālavāsinī.
एवमादीनि देवानां सहस्राणि च षोडश। चतुर्द्दश तु ये प्रोक्ता गणाश्चाप्सरसां दिवि । विचिन्त्य देवैः शक्रेण विशिष्टास्त्विह प्रेषिताः ।। ३४.
In this way, sixteen thousand divine women, and fourteen groups of celestial nymphs in heaven, were specially sent here by the gods and Indra.
पत्न्यर्थं वासुदेवस्य उत्पन्ना राजवेश्मसु। एताः पत्न्यो महाभागा विंष्वक्सेनस्य विश्रुताः ।। ३४.
For the sake of wives for Vāsudeva, they were born in royal palaces; these illustrious wives of Viṃṣvaksena are renowned.
प्रद्युम्नश्चारुदेष्णश्च सुदेष्णः शरभस्तथा। चारुश्च चारुभद्रश्च भद्रचारुस्तथाऽपरः ।। ३४.
Pradyumna, Cārudeṣṇa, Sudeṣṇa, Śarabha, Cāru, Cārubhadra, and another named Bhadracāru.
चारुविन्ध्यश्च रुक्मिण्यां कन्या चारुमती तथा। सानुर्भानुस्तथाक्षश्च रोहितो मन्त्रयस्तथा ।। ३४.
Cāruvindhya, born of Rukmiṇī, and the daughter Cārumatī; Sānu, Bhānu, Akṣa, Rohita, and Mantraya.
जरान्धकस्ताम्रवक्षा भौमरिश्च जरन्धमः। चतस्रो जज्ञिरे तेषां स्वसारो गरुडध्वजात् ।। ३४.
Jarandhaka, Tamravaksha, Bhaumari, and Jarandhama—these four sisters were born from Garudadhvaja.
भानुर्भौमरिका चैव ताम्रपर्णी जरन्धमा। सत्यभामासुतानेताञ्जाम्बवत्याः प्रजाः श्रृणु ।। ३४.
Bhanur, Bhaumarika, Tamraparni, and Jarandhama—these are the sons of Satyabhama; now hear of the offspring of Jambavati.
भद्रश्च भद्रगुप्तश्च भद्रविन्द्रस्तथैव च। सप्तबाहुश्च विख्यातः कन्या भद्रावती तथा। सम्बोधनी च विख्याता ज्ञेया जाम्बवतीसुताः ।। ३४.
Bhadra, Bhadragupta, Bhadravindra, and the renowned Saptabahu; also the maiden Bhadravati and the famed Sambodhani—these are known as the children of Jambavati.
संग्रामजिच्च शतजित् त न च सहस्रजित्। एते पुत्राः सुदेव्याश्च विष्वक्सेनस्य कीर्त्तिताः ।। ३४.
Sangramajit, Shatajit, and Sahasrajit—these are named as the sons of Sudevi and Vishvaksena.
वृको वृकाश्वो वृकजिद्वृजिनी च सुराङ्गना। मित्रबाहुः सुनीथश्च नाग्नजित्याः प्रजास्त्विह ।। ३४.
Vrka, Vrikashva, Vrikajit, and the celestial lady Vrajini; Mitrabahu and Sunitha—these are the offspring of Nagnajiti.
एवमादीनि पुत्राणां सह स्राणि निबोधत। प्रयुतन्तु समाख्यातं वासुदेवस्य ये सुताः ।। ३४.
Thus, understand these and other sons together; the total number of Vasudeva’s sons has been declared.
अयुतानि तथाष्टौ च शूरा रणविशारदाः। जनार्दनस्य वंशो वः कीर्त्तितोऽयं यथातथम् ।। ३४.
There were also eight myriads of valiant sons, skilled in battle; thus the lineage of Janardana has been recounted to you as it truly was.
बृहती नर्तकोन्नेयी सुनये सङ्गता तथा । कन्या सा बृहदुच्छस्य शौनेयस्य महात्मनः ।। ३४.
Brihati, Nartakonneya, Sunaya, and Sangata—these maidens were the daughters of Brihaduccha, the great-souled son of Shaunaka.
तस्याः पुत्रास्तु विख्याता स्त्रयः समितिशोभनाः । अङ्गदः कुमुदः श्वेतः कन्या श्वेता तथैव च ।। ३४.
Her sons, renowned and glorious in battle, were three: Angada, Kumuda, and Shveta; and likewise a daughter named Shveta.
अवगाहश्च चित्रश्च शूरश्चित्रवरश्च यः। चित्रसेनः सुतश्चास्य कन्या चित्रवती तथा ।। ३४.
Avagaha, Chitra, Shura, and Citravara; Citraseṇa was also his son, and likewise a daughter named Citravati.
तुम्बश्च तुम्बबाणश्च जनस्तम्बश्च तावुभौ। उपाङ्गस्य स्मृतौ द्वौ तु वज्रारः क्षिप्र एव च ।। ३४.
Tumba, Tumbabana, and Janastamba—these two are remembered as the sons of Upanga; Vajrara and Kshipra as well.
भूरीन्द्रसेनो भूरिश्च गवेषस्य सुतावुभौ । युधिष्ठिरस्य कन्या तु सुतनुर्नाम विश्रुता ।। ३४.
Bhurindra and Bhuri—these two were the sons of Gavesha; and Yudhishthira’s daughter was the renowned Sutanur.
तस्यामश्वसुतो जज्ञे वज्रो नाम महायशाः। वज्रस्य प्रतिबाहुस्तु सुचारुस्तस्य चात्मजः ।। ३४.
From her was born the illustrious Vajra, son of Ashvasuta; Pratibahu was Vajra’s son, and Sucaru was his own son.
काश्मा सुपार्श्वं तनयं जज्ञे साम्बा तरस्विनम्। तिस्रः कोट्यस्तु पुत्राणां यादवानां महात्मनाम् ।। ३४.
Kashma gave birth to Supārśva, the mighty son of Samba; and there were three crores of sons among the great-souled Yadavas.
षष्टिंशतसहस्राणि वीर्य्यवन्तो महाबलाः। देवांशाः सर्व्व एवेह उत्पन्नास्ते महौजसः ।। ३४.
Sixty thousand powerful and mighty sons, all possessing divine portions, were born here, endowed with great energy.
दैवासुरे हता ये च असुरा वै महातपाः। इहोत्पन्ना मनुष्येषु बाधन्ते सर्व्वमानवान् । तेषामुत्सादनार्थन्तु उत्पन्ना यादवे कुले ।। ३४.
Those gods and mighty asuras who were slain, being born here among men, oppressed all humanity; for their destruction, they were born in the Yadava lineage.
कुलानि दश चैकञ्च यादवानां महात्मनाम्। सर्व्वमककुलं यद्वद्वर्त्तते वैष्णवे कुले ।। ३४.
There were ten and one clans of the great-souled Yadavas; all the Akas and others existed in the Vaishnava lineage.
विष्णुस्तेषां प्रमाणे च प्रभुत्वे च व्यवस्थितः । निदेशस्थायिभिस्तस्य बद्ध्यन्ते सर्वमानुषाः ।। ३४.
Vishnu himself was established among them as the measure and the lord; all men were bound by those who abided by his command.
